Best part was that it was saved! So many great rooms and ornamentation! Of course that 3rd floor ball room is stunning!
Yeah i was waiting for what happened to it and was relived that its still around.
My wife and I were fortunate enough to celebrate our wedding reception at the mansion in 1978. It was somewhat unusual for the time as we had a live band and served champagne. We didn't know about the church connection at the time. My mother made an embroidered pillow of the outside elevation. What great memories, thanks for this video.
The woodwork is wonderful. The ballroom was gorgeous.
The first time I was in SLC somehow I ended up in front of this house and took a photo. Nice to know more about it many years later.
I really like this home. It's one of my favorites. I'm glad to see it's still standing and has been restored. I wish we could see some current pictures of the interior.
The McCune mansion is now an event center. You can see pictures of it on their website.
The 3rd floor ballroom is my favorite.
Great report, Ken. Thank you for looking west young man. This reminds me of some of the mansion tours I've taken. Sure, my theology differs from LDS, but that s no reason to limit appreciation of history and architecture.
Beautiful home. Great to see it is still there and maintained.
You are the best narrator
You made the video! Thank you! It's truly beautiful and I can finally see the inside. Nowadays its used for events like wedding and business. Maybe they can give tours like the Devereaux House does. Thanks, Ken, this was beautiful and informative.
Awe. I was hoping you would do a tour of the mansion as it is today so we could see the architecture in color. I'm sure pictures do not do it justice. Thank you for sharing this story. You do a lot of research first. 👍👍
This is a beautiful house! I toured this home on a school field trip. I have been in love with old homes ever since.
Literally walked by this house two days ago when visiting Utah.👌
The Avenues are my favorite part of downtown.
@@HermicraftAddict Yes! So many amazing historic homes, but those hills are brutal.🥵
In the 30s my dad took violin lessons there. It was always on Saturday when all the other boys were playing ball. I never went in but passed it many times in my youth and wondered about how this wonderful place came to be. Getting converts from India is not at all common. There's a story there as well I imagine. Thank you, great video!
I lived in SLC 25 years ago, and remember this house.
Wow! What a house….what a story! Thank you for sharing
LOVE this house. Perfectly designed. So much attention to detail!
This house is fantastic inside, thanks. Loved the vestibule, the woodwork was amazing!😊
Great video and wonderful house. My favorite space was that incredible bathroom! So pleased to learn the house still stands and is well maintained.
Of all the houses I have seen I like this one best
What a lovely house and a sweet love story. It’s a shame about all the modern buildings crowding this gem and eliminating what I am sure were beautiful gardens.
I've enjoyed this channel for a long time, but this is the 1st I've heard of a fireplace in the bathroom!
Nice!
That porch! ❤
Beautiful ♥️
The outside is lovely. And what a bath for that time.
I'm one of those people who would have loved to take the servants staircase!😊
I have driven by this mini mini times wondered what it looked like. Thank you for sharing this. It was really nice to be able to look inside.
❤
Beauty...
I am loving your videos, only recently found & binging away! In general I see comments that are intelligent, thoughtful & positive. Please dont allow this to become a place of criticism between people of different faiths, political persuasions, etc. Thank you.
I agree.
I wonder why there's never any people in these rooms. They look so lifeless. Beautiful architecture.
Good to know something positive came from LDS.
❤❤❤
Have you thought of doing a video on any of the houses in Natchez, MS? Glen Auburn is one of my favorites. But there are tons to choose from.
Another Indian-American success story. 😊
I'll buy it.
My great-grandmother was one of those nine children😳🤣🙄
What year was the McCune mansion built? Do any photos exist that show the furnished rooms from the heyday when the McCunes were residing there? Also, do the descendants of Alfred McCune still have any original furnishings in their possession? Thank you if you know.
Who bought the home when it was sold?
Does an individual or family own this house now?

KEN, I HAVE BEEN WONDERING FOR SOME TIME, WHY DON'T YOU BEGIN A WHOLE NEW SERIES, FOCUSING ON OTHER GRAND OLD ARCHITECTURAL LANDMARKS, MANY OF WHICH ALSO ARE NO LONGER WITH US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHOLE DISTRICTS, INSTITUTIONAL, COMMERCIAL, MILITARY, GOVERNMENT, EDUCATIONAL, INDUSTRIAL, CULTURAL, AND OTHER SITES OF INTEREST ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES AWAIT EXPLORATION IN WAYS THAT YOU ARE APPARENTLY MOST CAPABLE OF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THERE ARE MANY SPECIFIC SITES THAT I ESPECIALLY WANT TO SEE ON HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I COULD EVEN OFFER MANY SPECIFICS AND IDEAS FOR NAMES OF THE NEW SERIES AS WELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please don't shout.
Pronounced mac qune. My maiden name is McCune
THERE ARE ASPECTS OF THIS STORY THAT ARE SAD OR THAT I JUST PLAIN DON'T LIKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BUT THANKFULLY THE HOUSE IS STILL THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DECLARE THIS AS A DEMOLITION FREE ZONE IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I liked the outside. Unfortunately their taste for French white & gold fru fru decoration is all to common in the Nouveau riche.
It never fails to amuse me thinking of women in their ball gowns trudging up to ballrooms that are always on the third floor.
…way to many steps
So rich people's mansions, if they survive at all, do it by becoming part of an institution. Okay.
Interesting house. Too bad it was built and lived in by religious fanatics.
Nice!
