    I actually find this to be the best Control+ set by so far, and I like how it looks, but the price is just too much. We already had a gearbox, now a dif, lock, so what's next? I think Lego should significantly improve these two functions in future sets and, maybe, add some speed to the models. Only in this case, the $300 price, will be justified.

    • @andreaswiesheu2240
      @andreaswiesheu2240 2 роки тому

      that price will never be justified... the set needs more speed, more steering angle, less sticker, better doors, a hooed that stays closed, at least 3 axels and then, maybe, he is 200 dollar worth...

    I'm new to your channel and really love the way you review the building process - not the speed build but a detailed explanation how certain parts of the set work and connect with each other.
    Speaking of the set itself, I think some other reviewers are too harsh on it, mostly because of the price. I think it's pretty good. Though I personally prefer sets with one motor and distribution gearbox with lots of gears. Hope Lego hasn't stop making them.

    Talking about prices - I remember when 42030 came out, and for some reason, it was not selling in our country. So I had to order it with international shipping and pay an extra $60 for it, but I didn't care about that, because I just fell in love with the set. Therefore, it is more a matter of taste, people who like this set will buy it even for $300.

    Excellent review, as always. I like how the Zetros turned out, the only thing I dislike are the wide tractor tires, but with the usual 30% discount on Technic, I will get it for sure. Seeing the history of Milan's sets so far I see a year by year improvement in build complexity, although so far his Land Rover is probably his best creation. For me 1 motorized set per wave would be enough as it was the case before 2018. The rest can be old-school manually driven Technic for a lower budget. And a B-model would also be nice.

    Overpriced and very slow but with a 30% discount (that made me buy this set) it can be worth it.
    This is a model made for climbing and off-road. The truck is very powerful and the differential lock works very well : you really feel the difference.
    If you buy it for another purpose like racing, drinving or playing on a construction site, you will be disapointed.

    This set is a great one to build upon. After I had my gun with original set I would modify the chassis so the front and rear differential are attached to the frame and add a longer travel independent suspension front and rear. Add larger tires and longer steering rack for tighter turning radius and you would have a beast. This set has a lot of cool stuff going on but it is killed by the lackluster ground clearance and poor turn radius.

    I recently bought this set on a sale, loved building it and it looks good. Trouble is that it is not particularly exciting to drive, not helped by the fact it easily gets stuck when driving it in my garden due to the low front axel. This is one kit that I do not regret buying, but mostly for the parts, I will likely be breaking it down and using the parts to experiment with a new build of my own since we can use (the over complicated) Powered up app to make our own controls.

    My guess is the hub with screws will be in a future set, such as 42131. Ideally, it would be one where the battery cover is accessible from the bottom, like 42109 and 42124, as this makes it easier to remove the screws, and the screws would prevent the batteries from falling out onto the ground.

    Good review, I enjoyed watching, but I completely understand the discussion about the pricing. Yes, RC models where always (too) expensive (I always point at the 42030 in such diskussions) . But in direct comparision to the 42114, you have a reson to start scratching your head when you compair the 42099 and 42129...
    But I do not think it's fair to reduce this model to its price.
    From my view, it is the best offroad/crawling model Lego has ever created. Besides it has some flaws, like every model has. Overall it's great and you can see the effort, that the designer put into this to solve the unsolveable problem of combining Lego-toy rules and powerfull trucks immediately.
    7:40 42114 has a functional fake engine - if that type of fake engine counts.

    Out of all the possible mods I'd like to see a wheel swap test the most, there's so much extra space between the fenders and the wheels that it almost seems like a really stupid decision not to use larger wheels. Of course it's more accurate, but functionality-wise I think it would perform much better with the extra ground clearance.

    • @16gero95

      @@16gero95 Uh, I am already fully aware of that lol. This comment was made pretty much instantly when this video came out, and at that moment it was one of the very first detailed looks of this set on the entire web (much prior to release as well). Nobody had tested or modded anything yet and Balasz even mentions he'll be experimenting with those changes in the near future (currently present or already past). My comment was simply a response to his words telling what modding content I'd like to see first. I am truly very sorry for writing this extremely long detailed response, but sadly some people don't check all the facts anymore before saying stuff (in this case, the date of posting). I don't mean any harm but it is a little frustrating to get comments like this.

  • @hectormoreno1288
    @hectormoreno1288 3 роки тому +2

    I think is a pretty fair review. Nevertheless, i don't fully agree on the price comparison. Why is not compared with the 42114? Similar in part counts, also PU-driven, and pretty recent. In that case, the 42114 is 50 USD cheaper, includes a new unique motor, and a good number of functions, including a notable gearbox.
    I agree that the Zetros is a quite decent set, but as you stated at the beginning, is a toy... a pretty expensive toy, I would say! ;)

    • @RacingBrick
      @RacingBrick  3 роки тому +2

      I could have compared with the full current Control+ range one by one, but the video was already too long. 42114 has one motor less and a similar amount of parts, so $50 less makes it quite similar for me. The play experience of that one is very different, I guess if someone wants heavy machinery then they will go with the Volvo.

    • @hectormoreno1288
      @hectormoreno1288 3 роки тому +1

      @@RacingBrick I agree that it doesn't make much sense to compare with all available sets and, indeed, I liked the comparison with older sets. Nevertheless, 42114 would be my most educated candidate for compassion. Although it's a different type of vehicle and has one less motor, the type of motors, as well as the number of axles, functions and building complexity place it as pretty comparable. But, of course, is all a matter of taste! :)
      As with with the towtruck review, I liked very much the review. In particular for being that concise and balanced. I think that this set has been considerably controversial, starting from the switch of 3 axles to 2, and many people -among I include myself- are still in self debate about getting it or not.

    • @RacingBrick
      @RacingBrick  3 роки тому

      @@hectormoreno1288 well it's not that difficult to find the appropriate aspects to back up why this or that comparison would be better :) As I said for me 42114 is a completely different type of set. I personally don't choose sets based on simply the piece count or the number of motors, for me the purpose and the playable function matters more. 42114 is an ok building experience, but it has 3 speed modes between slow and very super slow and can't really climb even in the slowest one due to the structure. I assume one should look for the hauler's play experience if that set is a preference.
      42129 is a true off-road truck, with a play experience dedicated to off-roading. This made 42099 for me a direct "competitor" from the Control+ range since that has off-roader in the name, and with a few tweaks it can actually changed into one so the play experience and the value of that versus the price can be directly compared.

    • @qdaniele97
      @qdaniele97 3 роки тому

      Being able to also lock the front differential would be useful only in case all the wheels except one at the front loose contact with the groud.
      A pretty uncommon situation where (at least in real life) having the single front tire on the ground still moving wouldn't be of much help anycase.

    • @philp8872
      @philp8872 3 роки тому

      @@qdaniele97 Yes, but real trial trucks do of course have all diffs lockable. Some offroaders also, like Mercedes G, Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, on some heavy duty Toyota Landcruisers they are at least optional. And for most other serious 4x4s, like the old Land Rover Defender, Nissan Patrol, Suzukis, Ladas and so on they are available as aftermarket parts.
      BTW, it´s not just about having a single wheel on the ground, but rather having a single wheel having enough grip on loose terrain to keep the vehicle moving. In competition trial situations this is not uncommon at all.
      But the thing with this set is that it has very poor axle ground clearance, very poor turning radius and a lot of weight in the front, so a locking front diff would really help!

    after the Arocs, this isnt what the most expected. RC is cool, but not in the Lego world with this slow motors. Its boring and very expensive for this 5-10 min of playable time.

    Not that the lego version's proportions are all wrong to the original but in this scale it's useless to any terrain other than some grass and little gravel it can't climp over basically any bigger rocks or even ditches... or some scrunched up carpet.

    steering goes full lock to the right on start up while the controller says its straight. recallibration sees the steering motor spin very fast and grind the plastic rack and pinion. big let down. ive no idea how well it would climb as i cant point it anything. manual says three motors are identical with dame part number.

    17:20 no, it's not a kid's toy, absolutely not! 300€ here in Germany is ridiculous for the part count and for the amount of functionality, and no one in their right mind would buy this for their "kids", especially because "kids" would need a smartphone, yey. Everybody likes to put their kids infront of a screen. Most of the buyers are millenials (or Gen X) that were growing up with Lego and can now afford 300€ (or more). And Lego makes sure to profit. Fortunately, competition from the east is on the rise, I hope it will rebalance the pricing situation for Lego.
    Apart from this minor error, everything else in the video was good, thank you.

    Lego overall has just gotten overly expensive since the pandmic with more adults getting into lego the prices have increased and lego having record breaking sales. I remember when technic sets had the best price per piece only a year ago.

    Built mine yesterday, is it normal for only one of the rear wheels to spin when the truck is held up off the ground? Because it seems like the right rear wheel is the only one getting any power to it. The other one is completely static unless I lock the differential. I’m worried that when it’s driving with the unlocked diff it’s forcing the motor, and wearing it out in the process.

    Your reviews are truly one of a kind! I genuinely can't find other reviews that also covers how all the mechanism works inside. I have watched ALL your detailed building review!!
    It's a shame you only do it on the newer reviews since I would even pay to see a detailed building review of 42082 set (2018)

      Thanks, I'm glad you like the content! It takes tons of time to make these building reviews compared to the regular speed builds, unfortunately I really don't have resources to do this for older sets.

    • @DelLego
      @DelLego 3 роки тому +1

      @@RacingBrick Truly the time investment you put into your work really shows! But yeah I figure it doesn't really make sense doing it for the older sets with much less interest on them.
      There's a ton of speed builds out there, even all other big youtubers are doing it and it really doesn't add much information (I always skip speed builds). So your build really does stands out from the rest of them. I hope you don't get tired of doing it and the huge time investment really pays off to your channel growth.
      One idea to maybe "improve" the build is instead of a jump-cut to the next interesting part of the build, you can do a "mini speed build" between the interesting parts that you want to point out. So you have the best of both worlds. But the trade off is the video gets longer. Just an idea tho
      Anyway really appreciate the reviews and looking forward to your mods of 42128 and 42129!

    Wait, so a lightsaber bar (or any minifig bar-like weapon piece) through a stud-pin, while said stud-pin in in a pin hole, isn't an illegal building technique? I always thought Lego would consider it as one, as the double friction fit would be fairly stressful on the stud-pin.
    As for the proportions in comparisons to the drawing from Mercedes, it looks like the cab assembly needs to be about one stud forward compared to the front wheel, and this also means the rear of the cab would need to be extended by one stud. The frame of the truck also isn't extended properly, the Lego model has nothing behind the rear diff housing; and the lack of the trailer hitch is a slight disappointment. Bed length is whatever, but is there any real reason why Lego shortened it? The underbelly components also seem entirely out of place compared to the actual truck, both in position and count; the domed pieces behind the ladders, there's supposed to be 3 of them when the model only has 2. There's also no real reason for the body itself to be lifted from the frame of the truck, it just makes it look odd.
    As for the 'lifted body' portion, I'm surprised Lego didn't design it true to the original and include portal axles. Mercedes themselves uses portal axles, Lego has had them in the past, I don't really understand why they didn't use them if this is meant to be a trial truck. Between the ground clearance issue and the amount of pieces that can be opened or knocked off, this is definitely a shelf set.
