This is fantastic way to get Into big surf for big fish.thanks for video.....love to see more.I love beach kites and I love sport fishing it's cool to see the two work together.
The guy who narrates certainly knows what he's doing. He has his own fishing shop, is well known as a fishing legend and has designed many different ways of fishing. I've bought one of his kite fishing rigs and it works a treat. He mentioned that he should have listened to his mate, but he probably only had one set up that day. NZ tides are pretty crazy and that small shark he had doesn't help either. Remember he sent his lines out 2kms! Anyways, just wanted to stand up, sit down and write that I love kite fishing. Best day out was setting my lines (with mates) going off for an hour 4 wheel driving in the sand dunes, coming back to the fishing, hauled it all in and had 15 eatable fish. Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn. It's just about getting out and doing something you love. The people you feed will always be there to help you. (Hopefully starting with untangling those lines ... haha) I hope everyone gets a chance to try it once in their lives. You can't love something you haven't tried.
Thanks for the support, one thing we don't do is try to overstate the gear we use and if we have a screw up we still post the video warts and all. I think a lot of the trolls that comment don't understand that. Even so, there was a lot of good table fish in the tangle!
awesome bro... I've also had a few decent tangles but you only get that if you're out fishing, and more often than not, you still get a decent feed. Taking my kite out has created so many good stories, warts and all :)
Cool video. That's a complex rig. It's interesting to see all the rigs that fisherman have developed. That dog is awesome. He/she looks to be vary happy, to be out fishing with you.
wow I'm blown away. I had never even imagined that you could do fishing like this. very impressive and entertaining for me. I am a recreational fisherman using jigs and lures only but this is also very interesting. great job guys... tight kites....
Hi Paul me and a mate own and use your kites all the time out on the Auckland west coast mainly and on the northshore east coast.Great gear, great time and most of all great fishing.Cheers for helping us keep our sanity.
Watched Texas boys kite their baited rod lines off beach shore, used outrigger release clips to drop lines at 300 yards out. A sharp tug and released line dropped. Surf was rough and fishing was great. I had never seen it done before. Amazingly simple with setup and execution. No sea sickness. Fished on rough day you could not boat in. More ways to rig up and do kite surf fishing than just what you see here. Don't discount this till you really look at it close. You can kite any kind of bay area, or lake ...no boat needed makes it simple but effective. Have fun.
Thanks for sharing Paul! A lover of kites and fishing alike...my mind is reeling. (bad pun, hey.) Your video gives me one more big reason I'd like to visit New Zeeland. We live on the northern Great Lakes in the US.
Where I live it is less than one hour to both east and west coasts so I can fish any wind direction if the wind speed is over 5 knots. That is most days, so for us it is very practical.
Well, that's new to me. Seems like a great way to get a big catch. I prefer the rod and reel method myself. If anything just for the fun of reeling each one in myself and feeling the bite. Great catch though.
my boxer/lab goes crazy when i hook a big fish ,,barking jumping lol ,,i sure do miss the old boy ..i am sure this system was dreamed up many years ago ,in todays world of boats and motors ,plus sea gear , its replaced the ideas folks had ,for both hunting and fishing
Our Delta's fly 60 - 70 degrees either side of the wind but by the time you allow for the windage on, and curvature of, the kite line and flag it is very difficult to get any good fishing distance with the wind over 10 degrees onshore. I would be interested to know if you have actually fished your kite with the wind more onshore than 10 degrees.
@Tracka350 These rigs are usually set for around 20 minutes, and because they are on a running trace system the fish can still swim freely and are very much alive when they reach shore.
If you set out to catch fish, whether you catch any or not you are certainly fishing. Kitefishing is just a different way of doing it, these fish are way further offshore than anyone can cast a bait with a conventional rod and reel.
do you do this on an island or something? I'm in south Florida and the wind is usually blowing inshore, almost never offshore. does the wind usually blow offshore where you do this, or do you do this on an island where you go to the wind blowing offshore side of it?
HI John... I'm in Tampa and just bought my first fishing kite a few weeks ago from NZ. Soon I will try it. Remember most fishing kites they sell you can tack up to 60 degrees! So if the wind blows up and down the beach you still will be able to fish! :-)
Intersting way of fishing.. if i'm not wrong then the sinker (the can filled with sand) was cast first before baits?? so in the coastal sea with many corals can make the baits stucked right?? especially when the sea was not too deep, let say about 10-30 meters?? any advice?? but of course its still, as i say, interesting one... then you also can do any other things together while waiting the baits eaten....
Heh, that’s exactly what I was daydreaming the other day after flying my new kite, minus the winch. I didn’t expect to see anybody actually catching fish on UA-cam that way.
I have specialised fishing kite that can be flown at a 70 degree angle either side of the previaling wind direction. So only a strong onshore wind would prevent me from kite fishing
Is there any possibility that during these 3 hours some sharks can attack already hooked fish? Probably it depends on the spot , time, weather and many other conditions. Doesn't it ? Especially at night.
So while waiting for a bite you fly the kite for entertainment and good luck? Is this still a popular activity? What a tangle. This is my speciality. Can you continue to fish with such a tangle?
The tangle is unusual, I usually have a spare hook section in case it happens. The kite fishing rig in the video is a big one. Smaller kite rigs are very popular, see this video ua-cam.com/video/gNV9U2agO3Y/v-deo.html. The video shows one of our small kites on a rod and reel catching big fish.
never knew this was a fishing method. really amazed by the results. would love to try it one day!
This is fantastic way to get Into big surf for big fish.thanks for video.....love to see more.I love beach kites and I love sport fishing it's cool to see the two work together.
I have been fishing for more than 40 years and have NEVER seen this method before! Wild!
I know a kite is just a kite, but to me they come to life in the wind. What a wonderful catch you got.
The guy who narrates certainly knows what he's doing.

Hello Paul , my dad Donald Fryday grew up in Mokau. I use to stay there on holidays back in the 80s. I live in Perth now.
Long-lining with a kite, 1 km offshore, you Kiwis are awesome!
wow I'm blown away. I had never even imagined that you could do fishing like this. very impressive and entertaining for me. I am a recreational fisherman using jigs and lures only but this is also very interesting. great job guys... tight kites....

Its very interesting and looks to be fun if you use it once or twice but is it really fishing if a winch and a kite do all the work for you?
That's cool !
14:30 for best action
Thanks for sharing!
Good job

Nice video i like
that was the coolest way i'v ever seen anybody fish

wow amazing I havent ever seen a method like this
I don't know, seems like a lot of hassle. What's wrong with a fishing rod?
would be nice to have seen some drone hook up footage, but no idea how far out you hooked up...still not too bad
Intersting way of fishing.. if i'm not wrong then the sinker (the can filled with sand) was cast first before baits?? so in the coastal sea with many corals can make the baits stucked right?? especially when the sea was not too deep, let say about 10-30 meters?? any advice??

This rig is not suitable for fishing reef or rocky bottom types.
👏👏👏👏
how he counter the wind direction. i have tried but the wind came blew from the ocean . so then my kite not go to sea but to the land.. how?
very very nice. Congratulation
Awesome dog, and awesome way to fish. Would not be my favorite, but I would like to try this.
Vary nice video sir
Thanks
Nice...
wow,,,,amazing,,,,
Heh, that’s exactly what I was daydreaming the other day after flying my new kite, minus the winch. I didn’t expect to see anybody actually catching fish on UA-cam that way.
Does anyone know what that winch is called or who makes it?
by the time you pulled all the fish in they looked dead. How do you return undersized or restricted fish back to the ocean alive ?
thats awesome
Nice Vid Thanks
I have specialised fishing kite that can be flown at a 70 degree angle either side of the previaling wind direction. So only a strong onshore wind would prevent me from kite fishing
in the states we call those porgy, congrats those were a couple of beauties
cute dog, he's digging and ready to hide the catch :)
Spaide man jugeo
Is there any possibility that during these 3 hours some sharks can attack already hooked fish? Probably it depends on the spot , time, weather and many other conditions. Doesn't it ? Especially at night.
You are right. barracudas and shark will see the catch fish as bait. Also he will loose all that line plus get burned motor. Day or night.
Love the Dog.
Depends on wind strength, I think it would be around 15kg to 20kg of lift in 30 knots of wind
Beautiful schnauzer.

good job
Este hombre e un genio
I was getting ready to say that's way too much equipment and work--until I saw that nice haul at the end. Who know? Might be worth looking into.
I was thinking the same. Way too much work but that was a nice catch at the end. Drone fishing imo can achieve similar or better results.
