Hannah I'm a Canadian and never followed baseball unless the Jays were contending - until early in the 2021 season when I discovered what Shohei Ohtani was doing which was turning the baseball world upside down and inside out. Since then I've watched every Angels game until they were out of contention - but still watched all the games when Ohtani was pitching. Trout had been sidelined for most of that time but when he finally got playing every day last year I began to appreciate what an incredible talent he is and how deserving he is of all his accolades. AS an admirer of both these players I wished them both to have great success in the WBC - and the LAST thing I wanted to see was for them to end up in the exact situation they found themselves in the 9th inning. I thought Japan deserved the win and I wanted Ohtani to get the save - but I know how important this game was to Mike, and having to be struck out as the last hitter by his teammate made the ending very sad in a way.
That’s so cool that ohtani got you more invested in the game! He really is doing what no other athlete has ever done! Being born and raised in SoCal I grew up around dodger fans but I’ve been a die hard angel since I was 4! Needless to say having both these amazing players on my favorite team shine in the big stage like this was amazing and I was hoping for this matchup But to have it all come down on both their shoulders like this was tough as someone who loves and adores THEM BOTH. What makes them my favorite players is not just bc trout and ohtani are amazing at what they do but the KINDNESS & RESPECT they show on and off the field. Just humble talented good guys. They deserve everything-sad for trout but so happy for ohtani and japan! Even though I despise our ownership I’m very hopeful for an angel post season run this year! #GoAngels
The matchup between Otani and Trout was very exciting. I watched the game with a heart-stopping feeling. Ohtani said this the day before yesterday. "I just want to go to the World Series first this year with the Angels and win there." I wish the best of luck from Japan as well, that the team will fight as one and make it happen.

Love your reaction! Ohtani is the only reason I started seriously following baseball, and I'm so glad I got to see this moment! I think it's the most emotion I've seen him express, extremely happy for him. Even though Trout and the US didn't get the championship, I think baseball as a whole really got elevated in this whole tournament, on a global level. Plus that one in a life time ending, it will surely be an inspiration to future ball players. My team got eliminated in the pools, but I actually followed this whole championship more closely than the mlb playoffs.

I screamed when Shohei struck him out and started crying like a baby….but, I love Trout and I have huge respect for Trout just like Ohtani does for him. I think that’s the reason why i cried. Our heads of departments have not been properly supporting/utilizing the insane amount of talent we have! It’s not just trout & ohtani we actually have a team! I’m very hopeful with the angel vets they have been bringing in during spring training and hope we can make a serious playoff run!

However... after that I really wonder why ANGELS is...(guess what I wanna say) Not only Ohtani & Trout, but many good & lovely players also belong to the team... This "diehard Angels fan" couldn't care less anymore. Arte deciding not to sell the team was a stake to the heart for me. I'm going to do what many New York Knicks fans are doing (rightfully so). BOYCOTT! I can't support an organization that detests its own fans and a business first, baseball last mentality. I implore other Angel fans to do the same.
