That makes a ton of sense. You just relabel text items and text outputs of actions rather than changing the programming to be less steps, that is much harder.
I dunno if its mentioned in the NES game, but its stated in at least one version of Deja Vu, that Ace was a former boxer turned Detective, probably to explain why punching for him is such an effective choice...

I see Deja Vu for NES, I click. A friend and I used to sit in his dark basement and play this game late at night.. you can imagine how creepy that would be for the average 8 year old. The atmosphere of the game, the music.. it was a perfect storm to terrify a kid. Just seeing this intro… the gameplay… it sends shivers up my spine!
I used to watch my dad play this when I was young and whenever he ran into the mugger I would get so scared. That was the original jump scare for sure!
I was a Shadowgate kid myself. Never actually played Deja Vu until I was much older. I could probably still beat Shadowgate now without having to look up instructions anywhere!
That's awesome. My only memory is seeing the box at the grocery store game rental center and being mesmerized by it. I always remember that box and wondered what it played like

Let's just say she's talking about whistling, but also _not_ talking about whistling...
