I own v3 of the San Martin. They nailed the bezel on that one. Fantastic watch for the money. They went a bit crazy on the lume, it's honestly too much and shimmers greenish even in daylight conditions.
I mean the difference in price in the two is enough for a small down payment on a car. I love swiss watches and Tudor but the law of diminishing returns is in full effect here.
Well done. Great side-by-side review. I reviewed the San Martin a few weeks back. Stunning watch, excellent finishing and superb bracelet. Punches too far above its weight to be believed. :)
I just wish San Martin used clear AR coating on any watch that isn't a blue watch. Also, it would be nice if they'd put matte ceramic bezel inserts on vintage inspired watches. Those two things would make a big difference to me..... I just received one of these. It is a beautiful watch.
I just got this same SN004 watch and I was really impressed. It's my first Szm watch, but I don't think it will be my last. I'm thinking about their "Adventurer" watch during the November Sale. My favorite things are the red pip and the brushing, which is amazing. My least favorite is that the pip isn't exactly lined up. Close but no cigar. Ack! But otherwise, it's a pretty amazing watch. Recommended.
I agree fully that, the San Martin is a great watch, period. And not the usual 'Good watch for the price point' qualifier. As you had said, the Tudor is still superior in the finest details, but I'd be surprised otherwise for a watch costing at least 10x more.... Thanks for the comparison review.
I have a Ingersoll the scoville and it's a very solid Tudor homage. I'm not sure if they still make them but I really like it, had it for years. Miyota movement is the only downside
I have a San Martin and although the Seiko movement may not be expensive it keeps as good a time as the Gervil Swiss watch I have and I will be buying another San Martin soon. Great review 👍🏻
San Martins are great, but have you looked at Timex lately. WAIT WAIT, im not kidding. I have no idea whats going on over there but they are coming out with weird cool throwbackish watches. I got the waterbury dive compressor, and its amazing….and cheap. Thanks for the hi fi and watch reviews!🤘
Thanks Randy, nice side by side comparison of the Tudor and San Martin. Even Rolex knew that it needed cheaper watches to appeal to a bigger segment of the public so they made a knocked off of themselves with the Tudor, now others are doing it even cheaper. I would buy the San Martin but not the Tudor.
San Martin makes great watches...their finishing is awesome...now they even put some swiss movements in them. It sounds crazy but I like the looks of the SM better...I know Tudor has a rich history and all of that and I can appreciate that...but cost wise, the SM is just a winner. I also think SRV's version of Voodoo Chile is better than the original so what do I know? lol
I just got the San Martin, and oh boy is it nice. I am not sure if it can dislodge my Sumo as my daily, but man, these Chinese brands are dominating the market under $400, and Seiko has more or less ceded the market to them (one must assume the we’re losing money, or else why on earth would they walk away from this massive market other firms (Swatch, Fossil,…) are fighting so viciously for?
Great review cheapwatchman. Congratulations on buying the Tudor watch. I would suggest that both watches have a place in a collection. The tutor is a great watch to wear to work, on a date, and anywhere else that it may not get abused. The San Martin is a devil may care watch that gets heavy duty use without regrets; perfect for exercise, working around the house, and going out without where bling would be inappropriate.
You can definitely remove the bracelet from the San Martin watch and swap it to the Steeldive. The endlinks aren’t attached to the bracelet. I’m going to put my San Martin on a leather strap and use its bracelet on the Steeldive.
Appreciate the point that you make at the end because I'm watching the video not asking whether it is good for the price but whether it is good watch--full stop. Is it something that is want to wear? Regardless of price. There are billionaires who sport GShocks and not the fanciest ones; some people just like them. In fact I'd say that is an advantage when you move out of the homage category and create something that is its own thing. Today most people walk around in sweats--Nike, Lulu, and so forth. Nobody asks if they are as good as a Zegna wool suit.
Don’t feel bad about the bezel alignment. My brand new Rolex Sub purchased years ago via authorized dealer had misaligned bezel and apparently (after some googling) that, at least at that time, was not uncommon. I sold it a few years later.
The San Martin is a great watch. On a bracelet the Tudor is 15 times as much. On top of that comes maintenance costs. Lets say $100,- per year for the Tudor. OK the Tudor is the better watch, but I rather spend the $3.500 difference on something else. How about a nice second hand Mercedes convertible..?
Hey Randy,..another excellent review. I really like your new Tudor with the high polish. Where did you purchase it from? What is the model number? Thanks in advance and keep up the videos!
I love how slim the San Martin is. To me Rolex/Tudor are grail watches when you've "made" it in your mind. But nothing wrong if you get a homage in the meantime.
With the size, brushed finishing and also the dial indacy to dial porsion, I prefer the San Martin, the logo and movement my biggest grapes with it, know you can pick one without the logo and a other movement, don't think I'd like a watch that is that much of a copy cat, lacking more in own identity... but still enough to put me on the fence of getting one..
I know it's hard for u say that the SM is kicking TUDORS ass , But if you are truly a fan of SM you know that, but some of you watch enthusiasts will not just admit it or give SM too much credit 🤣 But great review .
I dunno… I tried out a Tudor and wasn’t all that impressed- the whole thing felt kinda janky to me. I didn’t get that feeling of quality that you’d expect from such a watch, either. Then again, I just can’t see spending more than $200 for a watch of ANY kind.
I still got a problem with Chinese brands almost directly copying originals despite probably having as good a spec’s for a fraction of the price. Though on the flip side it might force the big Swiss and Japanese brand(s) to up their game.
yeah. I think that San Martin is actually starting to make some original designs. For the folks that love the look I think they have a place. I always lusted after the Rolex Sub but it's just out of reach and even if I could afford it, the wait time is also prohibitive. What I find really interesting is when they are copying somewhat "affordable" watches from Seiko.
@@cheapwatchman_official But they are only copying the discontinued SEIKOs. I have no problem with that. As a side note. I received the blue version of this watch, and I never ordered it! I ordered a different one, which I received and gave to my son because it was a little tight on my wrist. Three days later, this one shows up! No record of it anywhere. So I guess I will just have to wear it . The finishing is amazing and you are right, the bracelet is way above its price point.
It's just an oportunity to step back and realize maybe are we being too materialistic spending so much. What I don't respect is trademark infrignment where someone wears a fake rolex. This is perfectly allowed, copyright law does not cover watch designs
Hi, why are wearing gloves (which I approve of very much) and yet rubbing the San Martin crown against your Tudor? By the way why are you attempting the part/value/rrp equation when we know it won’t work!! Try it on: cars, pens, burgers, flights, homes, tv’s, ie in all areas of life we want luxury or cheaper options. I can almost guarantee that a Tudor buyer will not be on AliExpress looking at a San Marine (SM)! So why do so many people do these videos???? Try doing these tests in 20 years time, the Tudor still great, the Sam Martin no longer exists!! Notice the scratches on the case facing the SM crown?? Kindest Bob England

I own 3 San Martins, this one included. I think it’s great. The fit and finish is really good. “Caramely” click sound…obviously a hi fidelity guy
Great side by side review and comparison. The artwork on your desktop looks awesome.

Thanks!
It'd be interesting to see a similar comparison of the Pelagos and the new San Martin SN0121
Seiko would charge you well over £500 for SM quality.
They would charge you 0 euros cause its a copycat, ripoff, clomage.
Nice homage watch. Very close resemblance to the BB58
Inspired me to get my casios out of the garage

"Devil may care". I'm going to work that into daily use
Thx for the video would it be possible to share the San Martin bracelet that would fit the steeldive sd1953
Between this and the Thorn which one do you prefer?
I had the 41mm black bay on bracelet. It was too heavy so I sold it and bought the 58.
I have heard a little heat at you can move the bezel insert to align. I have not tried.
The Tudor is great; but I think the new 39mm Pelagos on the titanium bracelet would be my choice from Tudor.
You can definitely remove the bracelet from the San Martin watch and swap it to the Steeldive. The endlinks aren’t attached to the bracelet. I’m going to put my San Martin on a leather strap and use its bracelet on the Steeldive.

Where do you live that you can buy a second hand Mercedes for 3k?
Where I am it won't be enough for a second hand Kia picanto 🤦♂️
Did you try swapping the bracelets?
I would have liked the San Martin better if the case size was slightly bigger. My sweet spot is 40-42mm.
Check SN 006 case
san martin sells this exact watch in 40 mm
Now the question:
What do you prefer: glycine combat sub or this san martin ??
Is this San Martin the 38mm limited edition version that comes with a 90 click bezel?
Hey, just ordered the SN008G with NH35 Movement, is the Case and all the Same as the SN004?
Just bigger?
Great video, sir !!
The San Martin bezel looks better. Is it ceramic? The Tudor looks like aluminum bezel.
Put the SN in v hot water to warm up the glue to move it a mm or something. Simple
I missing the lume test
Hey Randy,..another excellent review. I really like your new Tudor with the high polish. Where did you purchase it from? What is the model number? Thanks in advance and keep up the videos!

I love how slim the San Martin is. To me Rolex/Tudor are grail watches when you've "made" it in your mind. But nothing wrong if you get a homage in the meantime.
San Martin have consistently improved this model and apart from movement there getting closer to Tudor finish.
My brother in-law is a Rolex serious face brand guy.
I guess I HAVE to pick this San Martin up. 😂
I hope they will make a NH38 version....that would be perfect for a 250$ watch :)
Reminds me of those cheap watch you could see on any street market in Poland in 90s..
i think the cronos homage look way closer,,,

I love the way reviews are full of crap, the bezel on Tudor is visibly worse lined up than the San Martin.
👍

Cheap Cigar Man…for the trifecta
Tudor Black Bay is an expensive watch . not "very" expensive watch ....

Why buy clone watches?
This is the real question..
No one can be proud of a copy of something else that SEEMS but it is not.

I'm williing to bet if you swap a tudor for a san martin on your wrist tomorrow your wife won't notice
A clonage will always be a wannabe piece, with zero pride of ownership. Let's see if Tudor "clonages" a San Martin.
Tudor and Mido just looks so boring and undesirable,I think that even cheaper Squale 1521 onda looks and FEELS much better than Tudor!
SM has ugly blue AR
oof, 38? one for the ladies I guess
You must be one of those with size complexes. If you prefer wall clocks on the wrist it's up to you, not everyone likes the same
@@rickybest007 no, but just as 50mm monstrosities are too big, there's also too small, and it looks like a women's watch, get it?
@@rickhammel9541 Be sensible, just say nonsense.
The question is could Tudor make a watch like San Martin for the price. And what could San Martin make for the price of a Tudor.
One thing SM got right is THEY TAPER BRACLET..
