San Martin watches are great, really no reason to buy a Rolex (at inflated prices anyway) unless you want to brag to your friends, I just own and want too many watches and your channel really makes me want more.
Unless you buy right and that watch becomes a want later on l, kinda like the old Daytonas they were like 10-15k, heavily undersold but now are worth like 60k.
@@macky181 Nearly no watches are like that and the market collapsed recently. Maybe get better investments and spend that money on actual investments instead instead of tying it up in a watch?
@@brokenchains $3,400 I would consider a Rolex, $10k always going to be a quick pass! I don't buy watches considering the future value but if you do I get it. For me watches are merely accessory to your outfit that tells time...nothing more
Randy, just to let you know, this watch is available with a no logo/ custom logo option. You can also get a high-beat movement (PT-5000 or SW200) with the model number SN008G; same watch more expensive movement options. Of course, more money. I’ve subscribed. Enjoying the reviews so far. You gotta get some level of “affiliation” with theses watch companies so they will start SENDING you watches for FREE to review on your channel.
I had a San Martin "Retro Water Ghost" that I ordered directly from their website. I asked how much to include a few extra links. They included extras without charging me. I would recommend ordering direct rather than Amazon. I got it from China fairly fast. Their shipping dept even sent me a photo of my actual watch prior to shipment. I kept it for 2 years before moving it on. It was a great watch just a little small for me. I like smaller watches but my particular model just felt small.
Whilst I'm trying to avoid buying straight up imitation watches like these, San Martin really are amazing for the level of quality in terms of machining and finishing, the bracelets alone put brands like Seiko to shame. I know they've released a few original designs, if they keep pushing in that direction they'll hit the next level.
Hi there. Totally agree with you. Reviewed this on my channel a few weeks ago. Stunning finish for the price. Really weird to see you doing watch reviews as I have been watching your audio channel for the last year or so. Keep up the good work :)
Hello sir, what do you think about the 40mm version of this watch? I have a 7-inch wrist, and I like both the 38mm and the 40mm of this watch, but I like the coin edge and movement option with the 40mm a little better but wondering if the 38mm would be a better fit for my wrist size. Thanks!
I need to give this brand a look. Thanks for your excellent review! Lately I’ve been grabbing some Orients. They’ve got some winners in their entry level line up.
These definitely curb-stomp Orient. Orient has an in-house movement, and original designs, but SM beats them on everything else. I've had a couple of Orients and I never felt about them like I do about my SM watches.
I was so close to going with San Martin's Pepsi bezel GMT, then I saw this Black Bay homage and really liked it but I've never been the biggest fan of the Tudor hand set (feels like Tudor just said "I know, let's just put squares on it!"). Eventually I went with the Phoibos Voyager with the black & gold dial, whose aesthetic feels very close to this watch. Only differences that really jump out are the date complication, different bezel function and beads of rice bracelet. San Martin's so packed with value though, they're on the short list for my next automatic. Especially now that they've finally come around to consistently using the same brand logo throughout an entire watch design.
I watch your other channel all the time, and I greatly enjoy this one also. I probably have close to 50 watches, nothing elaborate, but I will never buy a battery operated watch ever again. It’s either going to be a manual wind up type, and automatic, or some sort of light charging system. And I wear my watch every single day or every single thing I do. And they do get beat up. but that’s why they make scotch bright.!
Totally agree that quality n joy of a watch isn't determined by the price... Niiice review man... Might wanna include a lume shot next time. 😉 Thanks ever so much. 😊👍
To me Black Bay homages are always a missed opportunity. They're so close but always miss being a Rolex Milsub homage. Specially this one you reviewed. It's all there. Crown guard delete, no cyclops, no calender. Only thing missing is the milsub bezel insert.
They now - just recently - have a mil-sub version of this model (sword hands, milsub bezel). I just ordered it. I also have the black/gilt dial BB58 homage reviewed here, as well as the blue dial version. Fantastic watch.
yeah. I should have shown it. I think it's a 34mm. It's a bit small on my wrist but my dad gave it to me so I'll always have it here. Even if I never wear it
I have both the gilt and blue versions of this watch. I honestly find myself wearing them more than any of my other watches (and I own a Milgauss). The build quality is excellent, and comfort on the wrist is superb. The only niggle I have is that the spring action on the crown of the blue one is very stiff, and occasionally stops the crown engaging. Obviously I'm a huge fan of the BB58, and these watches have very effectively scratched that itch. The 38.5mm dial is perfect - it's a vintage homage, after all, and the indices/hands are beautifully applied and finished. This is for my money better than the SN008, as the watch is closer to the original, considerably cheaper, more handsome aesthetically, and the movement is possibly more reliable than the P5000. The branding is always going to come down to personal preference, but I like the Hex logo, and this printed version is more discreet/'classy' than the applied version on the SM008. The SN004LE is without doubt the best watch you can buy for under $250. In fact, it may well be the best watch you can buy in terms of VFM at any price.
Thanks for another great watch recommendation. This is the spitting image of the Tudor. Tudor is the bargain Rolex... And the San Martin is the bargain Tudor.
Do folk realise that with a 120 click bezel, the triangle marker can only be 1/4 minute off the minute markers at maximum - at my age I would need a magnifying glass to notice it lol
I love the look of this watch too. I have had the SN008 for about a year and a half now. I went ahead and got the SW200 Swiss movement. So it was quite a bit more. The movement is a bit hard and grindy to wind. But it runs great and looks great. Check that one out, Randy. And I have the San Martin SN017 Submariner homage, with the NH35A movement. Like it a lot too. Really like your channel. Keep it up!
Ok, yes, I admit that this looks like a very nice watch. But it's yet another diver. Is this the Cheap Diver Watch Man channel? Or am I missing field watches and such in the content? It's possible that all the videos coming up in my feed from this channel happen to be divers. So I apologize if the others are out there and I haven't seen them. Thanks!
What is the line between a 'homage' and a cheap copy with a different logo? That's just a Chinese copy of a Black Bay 58. It's not a nod to the BB, it doesn't take inspiration from the BB, it's a zero thought copy. They even copied the case back. For me it's tough to get behind that practice.
Randy, I love your audio content and your perspective and also clearly am super into watches. However, I feel like I need to be a little critical from a place of respect for you. I feel like so far your channel is a missed opportunity. There are great non homage watches in the price range of this and the other watches you have featured that offer a great value for the money. There are watches that are originals that aren't benefiting from the status other brands and are building something of their own worthy of respect. There are great microbrands making original designs that could use your reach and promotion. San martin and Pagani and steel dive don't need any more help promoting the work that they borrowed from the big boys. Also as a legit fan, I expected more when I saw you pop up as a watch channel. I follow your audio content because I find the hidden gems that I can get for a great value. So far I am not getting that here, except the seagull chronograph that thing is incredible and a legend in its own right. This comes from a place of respect because I love your point of view and your voice and feel like you could provide a real value to the watch market by being the cheap watch man, not the homage watch man. Just my 2c.
I received this watch yesterday , I ordered it taking a chance against my better judgement after listening to all these utube videos just like yours. I completely believe now you all are getting paid something to put these out there. The watch isn’t close to being a a decent watch or in any way comparable to the original. Every edge on this watch is sharp. The case , the bracelet , are terrible , I actually was worried about getting cut . The engraving on the bezel is terrible, the bezel does not align. This watch is exactly what I thought it would be before I got caught up in all these videos, a cheap Chinese copy and not a good one.
