- Bruce was born on 14 May 1943 in Bishopbriggs Lanarkshire Scotland, to Betty and Charlie Bruce, musical parents who moved frequently resulting in the young Bruce attending 14 different schools, ending up at Bellahouston Academy. He began playing jazz bass in his teens and won a scholarship to study cello and musical composition at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama while playing in Jim McHarg's Scotsville Jazzband to support himself. Jack's playing in jazz combos was disapproved by his school and he was forced to leave, After leaving school he toured Italy, playing double bass with the Murray Campbell Big Band. In 1962 Bruce became a member of the London based band Blues Incorporated led by Alexis Korner, in which he played the upright bass. The band also included organist Graham Bond, saxophonist Dick Heckstall Smith and drummer Ginger Baker, In 1963 the group broke up. In March 1963 Bruce played in the Johnny Burch Octet, Bruce would go on to form the Graham Bond Quartet with Bond, Baker and guitarist John McLaughlin. They played an eclectic range of music genres including bebop, blues and rhythm and blues, As a result of session work Bruce switched from the upright bass to the electric bass guitar. The move to electric bass happened as McLaughlin was dropped from the band, he was replaced by Heckstall Smith on saxophone and the band pursued a more concise R&B sound and changed their name to the Graham Bond Organisation, The group released two studio albums and several singles but were not commercially successful. in short In July 1966 Bruce, Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker founded the power trio Cream which gained international recognition playing blues rock and jazz inflected rock music. Bruce either penned or co penned the majority of the band's tunes and sang most of the lead vocals, with Clapton backing him up and eventually assuming some leads himself. With his Gibson EB 3 or Fender VI electric basses, Bruce became one of the most famous bassists in rock winning musicians' polls and influencing the next generation of bassists such as Sting, Jim Shaw, Geddy Lee, Geezer Butler and Jeff Berlin. Bruce co wrote most of Cream's single releases with lyricist Pete Brown including the hits Sunshine of Your Love, White Room and I Feel Free, and Cream broke up in 1968.

Jack Bruce was the voice of cream! That man rocked!
He didn't have a falling out with Clapton but with Ginger Baker!
Correct.
When someone says “he was the best” it is always arguable. Personally I believe when you listen closely to Jack’s licks on the Bass, you really hear things very few can reproduce his fluidity and passion. He was an amazing man who rocked and lived hard.
Good history lesson, “Cream’s” reunion was missing, however. They sold out The Albert Hall for four separate concerts. The DVD of the best of those concerts is outstanding.
Jack was a brilliant musician. Cello, bass, guitar, piano and singing all at the highest level. His compositions were legendary. But he was a peppery wee bugger too.
great clip, i know many styles of music but never knew jack played with macclauglin, and billy cobham.which i saw in princeton NJ back in 1971, as the mahavishnu orquestra, blew me away, i was 17 years young. led me to listen to all types of music...
Find an album called 'Things We Like'. It's on here. You'll be surprised.
Ah Jack ,what a great ,musician /singer /song producer , but , like all great creative artists , they are their own men ! Thats why truly gifted , bands dont last long ! as they want to push their boundaries , its a weight on their shoulder ! all their lifes !
just enjoy the moments they share with use ! and what they gave !
cheers ritchie .
Beg to differ, the Beatles lasted 12 years, Yes lasted, Rush lasted, Zeppelin, The Who…. Clapton turned into a speed freak and then an alcoholic. It was well known.
Not to mention the creative differences. Roger Waters is another example
@@lespaul1755 sad….

Also not to mention the time with Gary Moore!🙄
WB&L was a big deal when it was released, l liked it (l was 14). No mention of the click bait title here
Yes..Not a very good analogy of Bruce.....West< Bruce and Laing made a very good album..as well as playing with the great Gary Moore..Bruce was a awesome bass player..He drove Clapton to be a better guitarist..
No mention of his short stint with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton before leaving to join Manfred Mann. Also, 'Sunshine of your Love' was co - written by Jack Bruce, Pete Brown and Eric Clapton. Also no mention of his collaboration with power - rock trio's West, Bruce & Laing(Leslie West & Corky Laing)and Bruce, Baker & Moore(Gary Moore) Bruce, Trower, Landon(Robin Trower & Bill Landon)Rocket 88 with Ian Stewart, Charlie Watts, Alexis Korner & Dick Morrissey. Power House with Steve Winwood, Eric Clapton, Paul Jones and Pete York. DO - YOUR - HOMEWORK....🎸
Manfred Mann
i saw cream during their farewell tour in october of 1968 in atlanta. terry reid was the opening band. tickets were 6 dollars.
I saw Cream in the late 60s and by far it was Jack Bruce who was for me the star. Clapton's Sunshine of your love for my group was on par to the "Monkees". But, Jack's voice and bass playing was so outstanding. Yeh.... don't ask me about Ginger.
Also, highly recommended is Jack's album A Question of Time (1989). Excellent songs and playing from it's hot starting track to the album's finish. Ginger plays drums on two or three of the tracks as well.
His falling out was with ginger baker. They fought constantly and that was why Cream broke up
One of my all-time music icons for his singing, songwriting and playing.
Sorry I didn't make it to the Jeff Healey memorial in Toronto.
💔🙏🏽🌈🌉❤️✨️🕊
Deserted Cities of the Heart
Never better than Cream
that was a dodgy header wasn't it? not a word on the topic
Great musician and, going by the clips we get to see, in other vids, the Cream reunions were always fun and they appeared to enjoy playing together
Commentators should probably do better research and not make up bs for clicks and likes
Dodgy because it's bullshit.
I guess the pic at 0:23 is from his 3-string Bass Period?
Bruce was more skilled on a few Cream albums - especially the live ones
I think he never received near the kudos that he deserved
No mention of West, Bruce & Laing. .................lame!
Cream war einmalig .
No mention of West, Bruce and Laing?
And what about the beef?
Mick Taylor on guitar.
West Bruce and Laing, and Cream revival? 🤔

Click bait title
More 25th hand old news hearsay clickbait.
He was good musician, but a spiteful, bitter human being. He couldn't get along with anybody.
