The Largest Stolen Valor Fraud in United States History was discovered earlier this month (February 2022). Sarah Cavanaugh, AKA Sarah Bregler of East Greenwich Rhode Island, claimed to have been a wounded Marine Veteran with tours in Iraq and Afghanistan where she was engaged in combat, wounded, and later awarded a Bronze Star with Valor. Over the course of several years Sarah used her false wounded Veteran status to scheme Veteran Charities, the VA, VFW and other organizations out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

@UCM4vy6MhmvVL00LcrTTA44w I didn't know any of this! Thank you so much for giving me several subjects to read into!
She is bad, but she's hardly the worst in history. The worst ones occurred DURING their respective wars or were used to rewrite history to create a historic fraud and browbeat the US Military's honor. These fraudulent "veterans" cropped up prominently in the post-WW2 era, with many politicians, including Presidents lending credence for fraudulent veterans for political purposes. The best known fraud today includes the "442nd" Japanese unit that literally did nothing but follow Patton's men in the rear echelon's, incurred almost no casualties beyond accidents and disease, and yet were heralded - falsely by the media and the political Left - as "the most decorated unit in WW2". The fraud of the "Tuskegee Airmen being the greatest squadrons of WW2 never having lost a bomber" takes a distant second next to the 442nd - a fraud which has overshadowed actual Heroic WW2 units such as the 1st Marine Division (which led the Pacific War as an amphibious campaign), the 4th Infantry Division (which saw more combat casualties and front line service than any unit to the point it where its original roster and replacements were "killed and wounded" by several factors of its active strength), the crew of the USS Enterprise (who's very existence held the Japanese in check at a time when the Japanese ships, troops, planes, etc, far outnumbered US forces in the Pacific), etc. Of course, there was a time when these WW2, Korean War, Vietnam War frauds were exposed and supposed to have been thrown into the dustbin - it was easy to do too, because Service records were kept in archives such as St Louis to document service. Needless to say, the archives were a constant embarrassment to these Juice*. That was until these Leftist arsonists BURNED the archives in 1972. It's no mistake that WW2 to Vietnam frauds became more and more mendacious after the destruction of those records - not because they could prove the veracity of their claims, but because these frauds - like all frauds - continuously use "Prove the negative" arguments. That is why no "exploits" from these eras can be taken at face-value without CONTEMPORARY verifiable and authentic documentation, such as a pre-1972 receipt of veterans benefit payouts (reading an "internet document" is not primary documentation, even contemporary newspapers written in New York City are invalid sources for proving that something happened thousands of miles away in Italy - only things like after action reports by field personnel, logistical manifests, communication receipts, etc, from the US Army or Regio Esercito are valid documents).
If a "WW2 veteran" doesn't have chronometric/carbon-datable discharge papers dated BEFORE 1972 (they didn't have DD-214 formatted discharge papers back then), or if he only got his veteran benefit stubs and receipts dated AFTER 1972 (because many draft-dodging and high-profile "veterans" only made benefits claims AFTER the archives were safely destroyed so they couldn't be proven outright as liars), YOU CAN BET THAT HE"S A FRAUD.
*UA-cam auto-deletes any use of their real name when used in a negative context - only allowing the keyword to be used in a "favorable" context.
The Marine Corps Emblems are pointing the wrong way on her collar (in the dress blues). Anchors always point inward. Dead giveaway.

“You can’t fake being in the military because it’s such a unique experience” was right on point.
True and the military mannerisms don’t go away after 21 years of service. My wife still makes fun of me because I can’t walk normal. I march… lol. Oh well!
It really is a unique experience. It’s not easy, it’s mentally taxing and physically too. I’m in the coast guard and even then, it’s tough.
Well to be fair, I can’t fake being a civilian, lol. Even after being retired for a while and putting on some weight I still get the “hey you military?” And unless I’m in my truck with only one military sticker I generally don’t have any other military identifiers on. I don’t like or want attention, but still get called out.

I feel horrible for all the resources this "person" stole from those vets that actually needed it. She should be held accountable for anyone she moved down the ladder of any waiting list, for any of these non profits.
My main question is how did she do it? No, seriously, I need step by step instructions. 3-6 month wait time for doctors appointments, a year and change to process my initial disability claim, up to 5 years to process modifications as my conditions worsen, 12 years (yes 12 years) to get the VA to process my son's birth or 3 years to process my marriage paperwork. The VA asked for about 4 different copies of my records (from me, from my unit, another from me, and another from the state), every time making me feel like the bad guy for trying to go through this process.

Mate, this is one of your best posts yet, you had me in stitches. I'm a medically retired British Army Veteran and I wished our bloody Goverment would take Stolen Valor as serious as your Country does. Yes we have individuals out there who simply like dressing up in uniform or have mental health issues resulting in them dressing up, but these people are harmless. What grips my shit is, dickheads out there who rip people and charitable organisations off just so they can steal money or have people feel sorry for them over some bullshit service that they have clearly made up or injury they have sustained from some fake ass event. It boils my piss big style. We need to start locking people up to show the rest of these nut jobs that faking being a service person or retired veteran is a serious offence and not taken lightly. Like you say in your video, once you shine a spotlight on yourself the whole Veteran Community will come crashing down on you, unfortunately the Police have absolutely no powers to do anything, unless a seperate crime has been committed as a result of lying about your service. Keep these video's coming brother you are such a moral boost, thank you from across the pond in the UK.
As a VFW officer we need to be more careful when we vet DD214s. The fake stuff is usually easy to pick out. One thing about the DD214 now is that they are available readily online if you get a booty copy, you can get a fresh, legible copy from the VA and DoD record keeping system with common access login. Most every legitimate veteran will or have or can establish access to their records. On edit for clarity: the member or veteran volunteers a copy for vetting in order to join the VFW. Also, the VFW post commander is not a paid position, the commander is elected from among the general membership and officers of VFW posts serve on a voluntary basis. The VFW operates under a congressional charter and the national by-laws are publicly available. I am the senior vice commander of a post in one of the western states.
I just don't believe that no one did any research on her up until this point. Someone was clearly covering for her.
@@napalmstickylikeglue No, I don't think so. I think blatant laziness is more to blame. People become complacent and just push the enter button. I'm more curious about the medical bills being forged...that means you would need to know someone in insurance or hospital coding, especially cause those looked like current rates
Well, yes and no.
Yes, it is easy enough to pull up and print a fresh copy through e-bennies. But unless you are using your benefits, you have no reason to set up an e-bennies account. I was out for over 20 years before I ever signed on with the VA. I just had medical insurance privately, and did not need the VA. It was only when Obamacare kicked my middle class ass OUT of my private insurance that I decided to go down to the VA and sign up.
NOW, I understand the whole system. NOW, I can log into ebennies right now and print you out a DD214. But for those 20 years before I started using my benefits, I had no log ons to do any of that.
What they CAN do is go to the Veteran's Office that exists in just about every city's Federal building, and have the guys down there print one out. And for vetting purposes, you can insist that they take you with them to watch as this copy is printed.
Hope this is helpful.
@@smokeyjr5942 I think you are right, or maybe more practical would be electronic verification (which cannot guarantee 100% accuracy, but close). The problem we see is people with DD214s that are folded, ratty, fifth generation copies. It's really a 1960s style problem, but let's face it, the VFW can't be conflated with the VA and is not a governmental organization, but a fraternal/service one, with a national charter, so it operates as a patchwork of local posts and on scant resources. We need to adopt better vetting, however, or lose relevance.
What is a booty copy? Is this the copy at time of separation or the copy located in online records? Obviously they have to be the same. Right?
Sooo. What is it?

Stolen valor may not be but I’m betting defrauding charities is.
Stolen Valor in the US requires two specific parts, 1, a valorous claim. Just being in the military is not enough, you gotta do something above and beyond. Purple heart qualifies for that. AND 2, you gotta financially benefit from your stolen valor. You gotta get that military discount, you gotta close a sales deal because you are a fellow vet, you gotta defraud charities out of money.
While most cases of "stolen valor" don't qualify, this one absolutely does.
Being a civilian and never serving in the military I have so much respect and empathy for soldiers and veterans. That being said watching you get emotional at the end of the video and bringing yourself to tears did the same thing to me, it really proves how soldiers are a band of Brothers and how upset they would all be over this. Since the guy was like 18-20 I told him to just stop. I cant even be mad by the BALLS this guy had telling a veteran that shit, but being a pathological liar garners NO respect. People can tell immediately when you're lying, people just dont call you out on it because they want you to keep talking so they can laugh their ass off at you later.
Even after ALL that, he kept trying to convince me he was not lying and I just walked away from him mid sentence.
But hey, as ridiculous as that is, its only half as braindead as that E4 in active duty that dressed up in a fully decked out class A with a 2 star general rank on it and went to an army event that was full off officers in uniform. (Circa 2008, it was hilariously legendary.)

Don't ever feel bad for following our Flag into harm's way. You earned those benefits, you are more than deserving of them.
@@awsfernandez63 Yea I have to come around to admitting when I need help. Getting older and working harder does not make the problems go away. If only I had balls like this chick I could be getting paid... smfh.
You sacrificed for our country, you deserve more than they will ever give you. You gave more than they can ever give you. Take everything you can and don’t look back. You’ve earned it.
I personally would just drag her out into international waters.
@Sal Bill can they charge people under the UCMJ for stolen valor? Id love to see this chick find a home in the brig
I've never served in the military, but my brother, father, his brothers and the vast majority of my immediate family have served. People who take credit for what our soldiers have done to keep us free need to be prosecuted because they obviously know what they are doing.
Yeh. How many vets who truly need (and want) help are denied because of resources wasted on frauds?
I agree, most of my family served; myself included. I just dont understand how someone like this trash could do something like that. She took away from someone how could have used that help.
Keeping you free from who or what exactly?
I’d be more worried about losing freedom to your own government than from an any Middle Eastern bogeyman.
Well he said father so chances are father served in Vietnam. Or heck maybe he's an older person and his relatives served in WW2 and Vietnam. Not everything revolves around our generation and the middle east and everyone's mutually sustained boner for hating or loving those people.
Same, my uncle and grandfather were in the navy, and for some jerkwad to try and scam their way to their place is aggravating
Edit: my grandpa died recently
May he Rest In Peace
I’m planning on joining in his honor
To all the REAL Veterans out there... thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you do. It shames me that average citizens refuse to honor and respect the hard work the generations of service men and woman have dedicated to our safety.
What could the average American do better? It’s essentially a job for pay at the end of the day. Unpopular opinion I suppose
@@brandonburnham7831 "Serving" in the military is not " essentially a job" its a life you are committing to your nation security. I am a non combat vet, but, my sons mentioned when they were younger that they didn't know anyone's dad who was a vet. I served 76-82, a sad time for the military with the Vietnam War having just ended with a great deal of anger around it. I had a draft number, but attended college prior to enlisting in 1976. Do you consider a Catholic Priest a job for pay also?
@@davidrn2473 lol killing brown people for corporate interests has nothing to do with national security or "muh freedoms".
I just found your channel, and I want to say thank you! I love this video and I would like to share it on mine. As a veteran myself, this person makes me sick with what she was doing and I'm am so happy she was caught!
Her sentencing hearing is a week away, can't wait to see your coverage of this!
Oh it is nice
Update?
What happened
Cant find anything about her sentencing.. was it postponed?
She has to pay $82K and she was suppose to be in for 24 years but they ended up giving her the low end of a sentence of 2 years due to a plea agreement .
I’m amazed she didn’t run into someone that really was deployed and in one of the units and didn’t call her out sooner
She probably learned and honed her story from other veterans
If she wants to pretend she was in the military so badly, let’s treat her like she was in the military.
Court Marshall her, see how long she lasts with a lot of angry military members
*Court Martial
I certainly wouldn't object to her facing UCMJ, Federal/ Military Prison system is MUCH WORSE than Civilian ones.
@@DJTheMetalheadMercenary sadly, that’s not a viable option.
@@x-calibearusallc Ah i know, wish it were moreso.
@@x-calibearusallc they need to change that
@@dalewoods7308 how? She isn’t even a veteran. Court Martial is enforcing the UCMJ.
This saddens me deeply. There are thousands of homeless vets that have addiction and mental health issues, its a good thing she got their money, wouldn't want them to be able to heal...Very heavy sigh...
That is just sick. Hurts my heart to watch as I have friends who are actually wounded from combat and need help. Always enjoy your videos AC, and thank you for bringing attention to get this liar called out. As an Army daughter, wife, and Air Force member, I hope the actual veterans who need help get all the resources they deserve!
I feel the same way! I have friends hurt from war and I can’t imagine how this makes them feel. And thank you to you and your family🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
How do you just decide to start lying about being in the military? Just baffling
Just like how she did, tf?
I think most of them are just mentally ill people that need help. A part of me feels sorry for most of them, but the ones that do this shit to commit fraud really piss me off and I hope they throw the book at her.

In Boy scouts, another kid picked up my vest with various merit badges because his grandma showed up & he wanted to impress her.
I found him wearing it & got it back, figuring that was the end of it.
Grandma saw me in my own vest & went to the Scoutmaster wondering why I was wearing Zippy's vest & why they were letting me do it?
It took most of the rest of the meeting trying to convince her that a boy just joining wouldn't have had the time to earn as many merit badges as I had in 2 years of Scouting.
As a marine that served in Iraq this pisses me off, I hope she goes to prison. A lot of my friends gave their lives for the country in the Marines. You don't fake being a Marine. We will find you.
Yup we will. I live for this!
@GG Rene being a woman will get you any where

Her damn Eagle Globe and Anchors are facing outboard…..shit like this should have been a red flag!!!
