    I've set up my studio in the middle of the room. It's a 12x24 room. I'm facing out towards the window 3ft away at a 45 degree angle. The audio gear is the focal point. The desk is to my right, and my keyboard is to my left. My chair is directly centered and each monitor are within arms reach at 5 ft apart angled in. If I stand a top on a ladder I can see a shape of an octagon. I haven't treated the walls as of yet until I can find a way to condense all components within arms reach. Hopefully by continuing to watch your videos, I may create the sound I'm looking for. thanks for pointing out the do's and don'ts in your series.

      J, Your room set up will change after treatment. You should treat first then set up. Cover that glass window.

    this was a 10-22-2014 I view today being 2-2-2021 and you have helped me soo much starting in 2019. I had to build trusses in front and back 1/3rds of the room to support a cloud in the future. The front is a window darn near the span of the speakers & monitors next to the front of the window (40"x38") untrteated but will use a plug to fit snug when mixing.

      I'm an old timer (48) and this is still very exciting to me. I've been recording all my life or since I've been around 14 years old but it seems I never quit learning more. If I could go back in time I would have focused more on math and become an Acoustical Engineer!
      I appreciate all the great info you're sharing here!

      K, It is much easier to erase a line on a piece of paper than it is to move a wall. Selecting the correct room size and volume to match your intended usage, goes a long way to reduce the cost of lower frequency management treatments and the sonic integrity of your presentation.

    Should hardwood flooring be covered over with carpet for the live room where drums and guitar will be played or can I leave that but treat ceiling and walls?

      Hi Larry, Each room surface contributes about 16 % to total room sound. Lets develop a sound strategy for your room and employ the proper tactics. Fill out the info in this link: www.acousticfields.com/free-room-analysis/

    Hi there - great video, I'm working on a plan to treat my room and this is a great start, thank you! About the don'ts - I was just wondering, to only way to make sure that my monitors are at equal distance towards the sidewalls is when I position them in front of a window (the rear of the montors is then directed towards a big window). Would this still be the best position or is it inadvisable to position them in front of a window? Or could / should I hang an absorption panel in front of the window or something like that? Thanks in advance for you advice!

    • @AcousticFields
      @AcousticFields  8 років тому

      +De Reisgenoot Glass is any room where music is used is always an issue. Windows go diaphragmatic which means they move with the energy within the room. Reflections from room surfaces must also be managed correctly or you will have more "glass sound" then music. Fill out the information required in this link and I will take a look at your reflections through ray tracing. www.acousticfields.com/free-room-analysis/

    Hello Dennis, i treated my room with a 1" inch acoustic foam and i also place columns on all 4 corners of the room and i have bass traps on two corners of the wall but when i put on vocals the mid range suffers a lot, what is happening.

    Hi Dennis thanks for the advice. I have a large window behind my monitors is there anything I could do to acoustically treat it ? Thanks

    • @AcousticFields
      @AcousticFields  7 років тому

      Hi Stevie, Large glass surfaces in critical areas such as front walls must be treated unless you want "glass sound" in your mixes. Absorption would be the technology to use. Our 2" foam has the rates and levels you require.

    what are the effects of room acoustics when you are monitoring on headphones? and are there any differences in the way of treating a room when you are intending to you headphones? thanks in advance

    • @AcousticFields
      @AcousticFields  8 років тому

      Hi Blayne, You would want to lower the noise floor in the structure (room) you were listening to the phones in. Less noise in room, more music heard in cans.

    I just submitting my room dimensions. Is there ever such a thing as too much treatment? I feel like I just place things randomly and I need to get this right so that I don't have 20 different versions of a mix. I mix bass heavy records and I have the most trouble hearing my balance.

    • @AcousticFields
      @AcousticFields  8 років тому

      Hi Porter, Guessing in room acoustic treatment is never a good idea. There are simply too many variables. Use a systematic approach starting with low frequency management. Choose the proper technology, make sure you have enough of it to impact frequency response, and place it in the correct locations. You must qualify all unwanted pressure issues before quantifying treatment.
