  • Hey guys, I just wrapped up my time working at Home Depot for the summer as an order fulfillment associate. This is just a quick overview to give you insight as to what to expect when going into your new position. I also briefly cover the hiring process and what you'll be doing if you work a packdown shift. I hope this is helpful! Leave any questions in the comment section and I will get back to you, thanks!

    I know this video is two years old but I feel it’s still relevant. I just got hired for this job and you answered a lot of questions for me that I no longer need to ask in the store during training. Thank you for making this content and for having a positive attitude and encouraging others. You’re a good UA-camr.

    I’m a loader at my Home Depot. Lemme tell you, the amount of stupid customers I’ve encountered is just mind blowing. For example this one guy expected a 6ft tall refrigerator to fit in his tiny little BMW 4 series. Like seriously how are those people able to still be alive

    I’m a deliveries associate and i can surely say that some people order half the store in one bopis. Usually in when we have deliveries/will calls, they are bigger items such as 200 sheets of drywall/lumber which is very time consuming. At my location, we are expected to load as well which makes our department the hardest in my opinion. You’re constantly on you’re feet. The good part is, that you learn a lot about the products as well. You also get to realize the stupidity of some people.

      I've been considered for a position (see cut & pasted from email received below). Sounding like the PRO DEPARTMENT so sounding like big unwieldy heavy items like cinder blocks, paving stones, concrete/cement bags, drywalls which wouldn't be problem if it isn't for an upcoming surgery for fixing an injury due to lifting big heavy items...so I think I should turn down setting up digital interview they want me to setup (& wait for some lighter positions...I also applied for cashier & customer service/sales)?? Also from cut & paste below sounds like I will be driving a Ford F250 truck to customer places also...will I be unloading all by myself or will I drive with another coworker so both of us can unload customer orders? Appreciate any reply so I can respond to their interview request

    Man I’m a delivery associate and my shit is 3-12 and no one is there with me past 6. So 6 six hours getting orders from receiving, from the back aisles, bopis and delivery’s. It’s tough but you kinda have to get them done cause people depend on you to get them done. I wouldn’t say it’s pressure. But it gets you anxious to get stuff done.
    I would say the things I like most was you have “more” freedom to move around than a specific department. You can go outside walk around etc. having a good team with you that you can get stuff done and fuck around at the same thing is amazing. My store specifically has a lot of people that have the same mindset and all the dark jokes.
    The things I hate most though is how if you don’t get stuff done or someone from the shift prior didn’t do anything and then you are loaded having to carry and then get held accountable cause your by yourself for 6 hours trying to get everything done does start to make you not want to work cause it’s just unfair. I have 5 people on my team 3 full time 2 part time.

      There’s nothing to be nervous about! It won’t take long for you get the swing of things and get to know everybody. Plus, you and the team have the whole store to yourselves for the night shift so it’s a lot more lax.

      Yeah you with need a special license/certification for it. I’m not sure about specifics but your management will better be able to explain what you have to do. From what I’ve heard, it’s not a long or difficult process

    • @ElectronicsForFun

      your ASDS will issue online training courses for it, you can ask for which ever ones you wish to be certified on (reach truck, forklift, order picker, electric pallet jack, pacer) and then after you have taken the courses you would partner with an equipment trainer in your store and they will have you drive around and move some pallets and then if you do good they'll sign off on your checklist and your ASDS will give you a license.

      @@ElectronicsForFun does this increase your pay by getting a license?

    • @ElectronicsForFun
      @ElectronicsForFun 3 роки тому +1

      @@zl707hp no it doesn't. I am licensed on all of the machines and I am a trainer, and they didn't give me a dime. however! if you can acquire enough skills for your managers to think you're valuable they will give you a raise, you just have to ask for it. if you want more money you either have to climb the ladder to management or work hard and demand more money. there was one women in my department who had been with the company for 22 years as an OFA and she made more money that all of the supervisors. if you have skills and tenure then you become very valuable. there is a lot to learn and most new hires are completely worthless because they are still too green to work alone. also the longer you stay with the company the better the benefits get. they stopped doing it awhile ago but I think they just reinstated it, so if you stay with the company for 10 years they give you like $5k cash and 20 years they give you $10k cash and then it's like $5k for every 3 years after that. they also give you boat loads of vacation time. if I wanted to I could disappear for a month and a half and still get paid for it because I have so much vacation time. home depot is a great company to start a career because there is so much potential there. even if you don't aspire to anything if you stick with the company long enough they'll take care of you.

      While not required at some stores, I heavily recommend you start off getting a Ballymore Certification. The Ballymore Drivable Power Stocker Lift is a super, SUPER useful piece of equipment. If it's a heavy box that you can't get down with a rolling ladder, you're gonna wish you had a bally cert in order to get it down. I understand not being comfortable, but the Ballymore is a great piece of equipment to learn on, and it's pretty fun.
      It doesn't move fast enough to pose any serious danger, has many safety interlocks, and helps you build confidence in operating. If you can work up the mettle needed to get trained, I promise you'll likely appreciate the ballymore the moment you need to get down an item that's in the overhead.
