My little guy was limping on his front paw and it deeply concerned me, and I was able to figure out that nothing was broken thank God! X-rays at my vet start at $100 even if nothing is found, so this video helped a lot. I ended up taking my baby to a chiropractor where his shoulder was popped back into place! 🤯 I saved over $100!

I rarely leave reviews and I honestly didn't think I would have gotten so much out of this simple video, but I watched it and checked our 7mo old puppy who started having a minor limp today out of absolutely nowhere. I started checking with the paws and sure enough our puppy has a pretty badly cracked paw. When I tried to gently wash it and put ointment on, he would hardly let me touch it, so I know that is what is bothering him. Also sure enough that is the leg where he's been displaying the limp, not wanting to put pressure on what I'd equate to a bad raw blister. Will be able to call vet tomorrow and get him a foot pad. Thank you for this simple yet thorough video! A+

This saved my day! The vets in my area were quoting me an average of 1700 to do X ray, blood tests not including possible medication of course, and at that point I'd be in a position of either affording rent or the welfare of my beloved dog.
It seems to be a pinched nerve, for when I moved her neck she did a long sad yelp so I'm just going to limit her movement this week, ban her from the stairs and give her one "dog ibuprofen" a day and see where it goes... thank you so much Doc! For real!
UPDATE (months later) I ruled out the pinched nerve thanks to all he vids like this one and her leg got swollen on the upper thigh... warm to the touch.... I thought I was dealing with an infection so I bit the bullet and it ended up being an infected mammary gland next to her leg (I let her run in my backyard and she likes to jump the bushes, so that irritated her tittays and she would scratch them and then got an infection...) animal welfare society hooked us up with antibiotics and the visit/meds were like 50 bucks.
    Good luck everyone!

My experience with labs is they are TOUGH SOB's who will power though pain. We had a lab once who was put down and the scan they took to confirm the euthanasia decision was so bad the doctor said he was amazed the dog wasn't whining all day every day. Very tough dogs.

when the vet was checking the dog's toes the 2nd time (looking for anything in the pads) the dog gave some very subtle signs that he wasn't comfortable which were not visible to the vet as he was facing away from the dog, he did an eye squint, lip lick then turned his head to the vet putting his face in the vets chest, This would suggest to me that there's paw lameness. It would be interesting to know the outcome of further exams

Why didn't you check the Tricept Tendon for a rupture? Easy to check as you can pluck it like a guitar string. I know this because my 8 year old Lab stopped puting weight on her right front leg and initially my Vet blamed artritus. Then I had an orthopedic surgeon look at Her and in 5 minutes She found the cause. Sad part is they recomend not repairing the Tendon as itwill probably rupture again.

We first noticed our nearly 11 year old very healthy Yorkie started limping after jumping off the bed (carpeted floor). So we’re thinking this is an injury. After he walks for a while he hardly limps at all , but every day starts out like this. We always try to lift him down anywhere before he jumps, but it’s been 2 weeks. Reminds me of an old man. Limps first thing in the morning and gradually gets better. Limps off and on during the day but goes for walks and runs with other dogs, Arthritis? He definitely seems to favor his left front paw. He’s a big Yorkie but not overweight.

If it's something that's relatively new then you can give it maybe about a week or so but if it's going on longer than that then it is something that I would be concerned about. We have a 7 year old Rottweiler who has been limping for a couple months now. She does better with rest, becomes way better, and then gets too excited and ends up going thru the whole process again. We went to two vets, two different Xrays, one vet said it’s arthritis, one said bone cancer. I’m reading a lot about shoulder dysplasia, and I’m extremely frustrated as these are two far extreme diagnosis and have put us thru an emotional rollercoaster. We were told after all the blood and urine tests there weren’t signs of cancer. What are your thoughts?

I have the same issue with my 8 year old Australian Shepherd this has been going on since August 7 2023 spent $360 on x-rays couldn't find anything said could be arthritis I try to fence off certain areas of the yard so he doesn't run as much, this is so frustrating I'm ready to take him in to get an MRI can't afford it but I'll do it if I have to just to know what's going on, Vets like to prescribe pain meds like gabapentin but all that's going to do is mask the pain and make it worse when they overdo it in my opinion. Btw I love Rotties I had two in the past male and female awesome dogs. Good luck. ✌️

I have a healthy 9 year old Shihpoo, we went out yesterday and when we came home about an hour later she was limping on her front right paw. She laid around most of the day after I checked her paw/shoulder thoroughly and she seems ok but she is limping. This morning she is still limping but no whining or barking when I touch it. She sits in our bay window looking for us when we’re gone and I’m wondering if maybe she hurt it when we got home jumping down at 50mph like she always does. She’s a little chubby and maybe she pulled a muscle? She’s never had any problems. This is the first time ever. She does seem lethargic but very aware, she’s just kinda laying around and staying off it. Any ideas off the top of your head? Thank you in advance.

My dog has been limping on his front leg for the past two weeks now, it started to get better after the first week, but then yesterday I took him for a longer off leash about a mile and a half easier hike, as I had been walking him mostly shorter walks half mile or mile on leash up to that point, but I thought he was doing well enough that he could handle that and now he’s limping bad again, I thought maybe he strained it getting up off the floor, as we have hard floors and he tends to slip when he jumps up from lying down sometimes, so I don’t think he has like got it from hiking or exercising but maybe strained it jumping up, but I don’t know what I can do to help him, I can certainly take him and get x-rays but I don’t know what that would show as I don’t think anything is broken because there’s no swelling but it’s a very very obvious limp now.
What would you recommend me doing? I’ve been researching how to figure out how to help him, but I don’t know how other than rest.
I wanted to add he’s only four years in October, so he’s not old.

    • @DrLera
      @DrLera  Рік тому +3

He could potentially have arthritis in his joint or joints and so that would be caused by different things depending on which joint is affected. Also he could have God forbid a bone tumor. These are some of the more common things. If you know exactly what you're treating then it's a lot easier to have a very targeted approach to treatment. By doing the x-rays we cross things off the list at the very worst and at the very best we get a diagnose to what the cause is

Hi everyone. As a vet nurse and owner of a very stoic springer spaniel… please don’t take this video as a way of diagnosing your pets l look lameness cause. This is a great video but I feel it’s more an explanation of what the vet will do to your dog during an ortho exam. My own dog gives nothing away when I manipulate him at home but my orthopaedic colleague can get a correct reaction.
Also note that during a couple of periods, the fog starts to lick. This is often an indication of discomfort. Have a great day 🐾 x

My dog has been limping on her left front leg for about a month now. I took her to the vet after one week thinking maybe a fracture or torn ligament in her left wrist. They took x-rays but found none of that and no swelling, only a very little bit of arthritis in her left shoulder. So I have had her on limited activity no jumping, short leashed walks and they put her on carprofen first 2x's a day and now gabapentin 3x's a day. She seemed to limp more on the gabapentin. I'm frustrated that they can't find anything and I have taken her for follow up checks 3 times now. Could the arthritis be the cause of her limping if it is only very little ? She is only 6 years old and I have spent over $500.00 to find out little about her limping.Sometimes she holds up her left paw and won't put weight on it also.

My Doberman loves to play frisbee. She is doing the same as your baby but hers is the right front wrist (?). My vet X-rayed her extensively (very expensive) and didn't find anything. She is still limping and getting worse. Very SAD! I just took her back today. The main Doctor examined her paw and leg but my dog didn't seem to hurt and the Dr couldn't figure it out either. We got home and she started limping again. It truly breaks my heart. She is only getting worse. 😪

Take him to the vet. They should an orthopedic exam trying to find where the pain is. If it is near the wrist or in the shoulder then I would recommend x-rays and having a board certified radiologist look at them to see if there is any evidence of bone cancer. If there no evidence then great news, the. You can look into any more of options for pain to see if they help like non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs

I give him the recommended pain medication for his weight and if it doesn't go away after a week I'll take him in to the vet. hopefully by then it will resolve on it's own.
