  • I was always intrigued by this one of the three tanks shown in the episode “The Infernal Machine”, but I wanted to see it used as a vehicle for surface exploration teams (such as Sanderson’s perhaps) and lunar resource service. This is a concept of the Alphans harvesting water, and a look inside this long haul - science station vehicle.

    Nice work.
It's a reasonable guess that the laser tanks were construction and/or surface exploration vehicles. Alpha would need ground vehicles with a longer range and heavier cargo capacity than just the moon buggies.

    • @dwightwilliams5892

Honestly, if Space 1999 ever gets a 2099 remake or whatever, it'll be a travesty if they don't use you for their art direction. I was a fan of the show growing up as a kid and for years I've had the idea of a 2099 remake in the back of my head. And whilst words, ideas and envisioning are my thing (I'm a produced screenwriter - via a circuitous career of Military Intelligence then Legal Profession) I don't have the artistic ability that you do. But to my mind, you have PERFECTLY encapsulated the aesthetic of the original series whilst at the same time giving it a modern - even practically believable and futuristic upgrade. Aside from the costumes and the serial Monster/Alien of the week stories, Series One of 99 has aged very well... (season two doesn't exist in my mind lol) and even your use of original music in all your videos shows how those themes could work in a modern version of the show. Space is vast, cold, unknown and potentially terrifying... and like Series One, all your videos have that same thoughtful, intelligent and haunting quality to them. Needless to say, I'm a big fan of your work. Here endeth the gushing! 🤣👍

This is a beautiful video. It is conspicuously faithful to the Space:1999 series, to a fault. I always found the Monnbase Alpha space tank design flawed. If it were to be based loosely off the Eagle spacecraft design, the cockpit design of both vehicles, particularly the nosecone/command module design, would have to be altered to increase visibility for the operators/pilots. Instead of the view ports being recessed, they would have to be flush with the hull or nearly so. And both the space tank and the Eagles would need to have the cockpits situated inside of all four active viewports so the crew could see more. This would be a major departure from the depicted Space: 1999 design.

Loved the TV series. Eagle space craft are amazing. However, capsule seems a bit out of place for a tank. That's where I thought Derek Meddings kind of messed up with that design..
You'd probably want more viewing area for a surface vehicle. At least a side window. Tracks have so many exposed hinges to lunar dust. I understand why NASA went with the Apollo Lunar Rover, design- the wheels provide far less exposed parts, just the axle hubs. You do fantastic work and give so much new life to Space:1999. !!
