The Tata Nexon EV will be launched in three and 2 Dark edition Variants - XM, XZ+ , XZ+ Lux / XZ + Dark eddition and XZ+ Lux Dark Edition .The base XM variant gets keyless entry and push button start, ZConnect app (Tata’s version of connected car app like Hyundai’s Bluelink), dual airbags with ABS and EBD, Drive and Sport modes and auto climate control. In addition to what’s in the XM, the XZ+ gets contrasting dual tone roof, 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, seven-inch touchscreen, cornering lamps and rear parking camera. The top of the line XZ+ Lux trim will get sunroof, auto headlamps and rain sensing wipers and leatherette seats.
Battery and Performance
Feeding the front mounted electric motor is a 30.2kWh battery. According to Tata’s internal testing results, the battery will provide a range of over 300km on a single charge. The permanent magnet synchronous motor powers the front wheels of the Nexon EV, and is capable of hustling the e-SUV to a 100kmph in 9.9 seconds (claimed). Power and torque figures stand at 127bhp and 245Nm.
Charging time
There are two ways of charging the Nexon EV - via a regular 15A charging socket and a CCS 2 fast charger. The fast charger will charge the EV from zero to 80 per cent in just one hour while the 15A socket will take about eight hours to charge from 20 per cent to 100 per cent. We await the details on charging infrastructure for the Nexon EV as well as the type of charging ports the car will support.
Features
There’s less doubt that the Nexon EV will be aplenty with a plethora of features. There’s a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system from Harman that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The system is connected to an eight-speaker 100W Harman music system like we’ve seen in most Tata cars recently. Other premium features include an electric tailgate release, two driving modes - Drive and Sport, rain sensing wipers and automatic projector headlamps, wearable key for passive entry, rear ac vent and a 7-inch TFT display in the instrument console that mirrors media and navigation information.
Tata will kick start its electric journey this decade with the Nexon EV. The Nexon EV gets refreshed styling that resonates with its electric underpinnings and will most likely be slotted under the Hyundai Kona and the MG ZS EV in terms of pricing. It will also be the first long range electric car to be launched by a homegrown carmaker.
