Well I get 17 in town and 21 highway with my 6.6 and I do haul a 29' goose neck with 373s at 13 mpg at 75 mph with 12,000# What prey tell does your fuel mileage consist of?
And your oil change costs $100+ more, and you need to replace the fuel filter when you do your oil change, your fuel costs $1.50 a gallon more, your maintenance is more expensive… you don’t buy a diesel to save money. Bragging about getting a few mpg better in your diesel doesn’t make up for how much more it costs to own one, in fact nowadays you’ll never recoup that money, not even come close.
We got 2 Ford utility trucks at work, an F series with the 6.7 powerstroke and an E series with the 5.4 triton. Both have 4.56 gears and are dually’s. The 6.7 gets 7mpg and the 5.4 gets 9 mpg. Both run out of breath at about 80-85mph. The diesel may get you there a couple seconds quicker, and that’s about it. Either way it’s way cheaper to run the gas truck, plus that 6.7 has had quite a few issues whereas the 5.4 has been problem free thanks to it being the newer version without the spark plug issues.
@@BurninGas8.1 I am a Chevy guy, and I like the OBS trucks. 350’s and 454’s for me. The 8.1/496 is basically a stroked 454 though. Doesn’t take much to get a boatload of power out of one without negatively affecting reliability!
Depends how long and steep if motor is turnin anything over 4000 it will gain speed uphill loaded depending how fast you wanna go most hills it will make it about halfway befor dropping down and roaring
IMO the Allison in a pickup is like using a 44 mag for EDC. Effective, but WAY more than you need, and has more downs than ups. The 4L80E can easily handle over 1000hp and 1000tq and robs a lot less power in drive train loss.
Yea but you only have 4 gears lol for my setup this allison works very well and has held up to all the abuse i put it through.. if i didnt haul over 10000 on a reg basis the 4L might of worked but ive put almost 200,000km on this setup which it has about 350,000km on it now and just keeps doin the job everyday
What are you talking about bro where did you even pluck those numbers from, GM themselves only rates the 4l80 at 440ft pounds of torque and the 4l85 at 460ft pounds. if the allison was too much for a pickup truck GM wouldnt have ever put it into a pickup. i dont know if you have ever had a 6.5 with the 4l80 but the low end torque shatters them right quick if you dont drive them like a saint
@@chrishansen7004 look up Lawrence Tolman, turboed 8.1 with over 1000hp before he rebuilt it with stronger gears. I'm not going by what GM recommends, nerd. Also, the original poster with mods and, admittedly, 37 inch tires, got barely over 200hp at the wheels. If you actually followed the forums as I do, the general consensus is Allison trucks with the 8.1 are NOTICEABLY slower than 4l80e trucks with the 8.1. I always thought the Allison was the one to get myself, but I trust the people with experience. Many people in the forums agree, the gears in the Allison are too heavy, it robs a lot of horsepower.

Sound is subjective, but I think a big block sounds way better than the muted sound of a Duramax. Getting 5-7mpg better doesn’t mean you save all sorts of money. It doesn’t save you any money these days. And mod for mod, the 8100 will make a lot more power and nearly the torque of an lb7.
