I've had my 2021 Cx30 about three months now. I had been looking very seriously at the CX5 and knew that was what I wanted. But...then I happened upon the CX30, looked online at pictures of CX5 and CX30 profiles side by side. I really liked the look of the CX30's profile better than the CX5 and have never looked back. Appreciate someone finally paying attention to decibels. Small cars on rough pavement can be painfully loud. Some of us drive long distances and the comfort of the seats and suspension is important. Believe it or not, most people's main concern is not how fast a car can go around curves. We tend to grow out of that.
Currently driving it as a rental its amazing the sport mode makes it zoomy carplay flawless sound screen quality everything. Also the brights visably shine past a whole block in the middle of the day
I purchased a 2020 CX-5 Reserve a few months. I traded in a 2018 Honda Odyssey after having a ton of problems and 10 (yes, TEN) separate safety recalls. I LOVE my new CX-5. There’s a reason why they’re so popular and loved. 😁
Both the CX-5 and the CX-30 look and feel like top of the line, luxurious SUVS. The only difference between the two really is the size. The 30 fits like a glove, but lacks leg room in the backseat. The 5 feels more roomy. Ultimately, I went for the CX-5 as I am six feet tall and needed more room inside the cabin. If you have a smaller build you may prefer the CX-30. Otherwise, both are great choices. Enjoy!
I like to drive, don't like spending 1/2 an hour to find "optimum" settings. I like the way Mazda is using tech. Keep it simple and let me have fun driving.
Car is always barking at you in traffic. Try to move it into the garage and it puts the parking brake back on like a naggy in law until you put your seatbelt on. I swear when we need to replace the other car I'm having something from the 90s restored.
I just bought one last week. Excellent vehicle, lots of power with the 2.5L regular engine. the GT AWD is excellent, all the doo dads but easy enough for a 70 year old to understand. BUT, I do have a problem with it, but that's because I have a bad back. I can't get used to the firmness of the seat and have been in terrible back pain. Now if you do NOT have back problems, you will love this car. I may have to bring it back after one week of ownership. Expensive lesson.
Always love your videos! Mazda is a hidden gem. Love everything on the CX-30 except the thick plastic cladding 🤮. The inside definitely feels like a $40,000 price point. The ride is super smooth and I believe Mazda can truly compete with luxury brands. Hopefully they can add an option of a flat bottom steering wheel!
I was going to purchase the CX5, but I’m single and we are only three with my girlfriend and my dog… went to the car dealership but then I saw this and fell in love with the size, sportiness, luxury, clean / minimalistic interior… the car is fantastic for us. Totally recommended if you don’t have a big family
I love my 2020 CX-30, and would buy it again in a heartbeat. I always have had some buyers remorse after I use a vehicle for a while, that’s normal as you start noticing things more, but not here. So far, my only nit-pick is that the engine is a little noisy under acceleration: it’s very quiet once you reach steady speed though.
I have the 2020 cx30 and love it! Such a great car for my needs. A little tight inside but doesn’t really cause that much of an issue. Nice and compacts and fits in any parking place. Great gas too!
Thanks so much for posting this! My family and I are thinking about buying the cx 30 and we are visiting a Mazda dealership later this week! This helped me a great deal! Awesome video!
I am going to look at a trailblazer this week, but now I am definitely going to try to go by and check one of these out. These look so nice and the price point is not much more than the trailblazer and has so much more.
I live in a city and parallel park all the time, I got the cx30 poly gray and I love it. The plastic cladding is great for parallel parking without having to worry about paint cracking after years of love taps. I wish they included 360 camera and parking sensors though with the premium model.
In Australia you can option vision technology for $1500 extra so any trim can have 360 degree camera. We got the Mazda 3 second from base model and added this vision. I love it.
I just traded in my soul red 2018 Mazda 6 GT for the Silver AWD CX30 and couldn’t be happier! It’s perfect for me since I just moved up to the mountains!!!!
I have this color on my CX-5 and get lots of compliments. i love the soul red too, but I have read that it is hard to match the paint if it gets dinged or worse damage.
The dealer I am talking to has that blue mic no bells and whistles base model and front wheel drive. Only thing is I would have to pay subaru dealer the disposition fee on my imprezza that's lease is due June 14th
If you need the extra space the CX-5 is a great vehicle but in my opinion the CX-30 is much nicer looking, more fun to drive and has a nicer interior. I just priced a CX-30 GT and a CX-5 GT for my wife and the CX-30 is $5k cheaper (here in Canada). For us the extra couple inches of leg room in the back seat and bigger cargo area isn't worth $5K. Also the CX-5 is getting quite dated and is waiting for an overhaul which will lower the resale value of the current model although I imagine you might be able to get a good deal on a current CX-5 when the new version is released. To me unless the little bit of extra space is a necessity to you the CX-30 is much nicer and a better value but both good vehicles don't think you would go wrong with either. Am definitely tempted to wait for the CX-30 turbo to be released here.
Great summary. In the UK the CX-5 is quite a bit more expensive and I too couldn't justify the monthly £100 per month cost increase. I found the space behind my (5ft11, heavy build) driving position in the CX-5 was on a par with the CX-30, i.e. my comfortable position in the CX-5 was quite low and set back but more upright in the CX-30.
I tried both, and I chose the CX-5 in the end, couldn't be happier. This is too small for me. Even my wife, that is a small woman, thought this car was small

I have fallen in love with my car, i can proudly park my car next to mercedes and get more looks...
I really like this CX-30. If it had been available 2 years ago, I probably would have bought it instead of my 2019 CX-5 Signature. However now that I have the CX-5 I prefer it. I'm used to the items I have in the CX-5 that are not available in the CX-30 yet, like the turbo engine, parking sensors, 360 camera and 40/20/40 fold down rear seats. I do however think the side black cladding is too heavy. Thanks, for the video.
I wish the front turn signals were positioned together with the front lighting, that's where other drivers are looking for them. I worry that the low mounted front turn signals will be missed by other drivers.
I'm looking at a CX-30 for my wife. Here in Canada , and I imagine its similar everywhere, a CX-5 GT is $5k more than a CX-30 GT. We don't need the extra space so the CX-30 is a way better deal and is much better looking and way more fun to drive. The CX-5 might ride a touch better but barely noticeable. Also the CX-5 is quite dated and the interior is not nearly as nice. It's due for an overhaul and as soon as the new one comes out the resale value of the current model will be lowered. If you need the extra space of a CX-5 I'd wait for the new version
The tacked-on, generic/cheap-looking, afterthought plastic cladding (& bumper) is somewhat off-putting on an otherwise nice vehicle design. Mazda could have done a lot better job incorporating it into the vehicle design & various painted surfaces, like other vehicles manufacturers manage to do. Hopefully, whenever Mazda does the CX-30 refresh, they will address this a bit better than they did on the initial model offering.
Mazda has come a long way. The CX-5, CX9 and this 30 are so stylish and reliable. However the CX-30 has way to much plastic above the wheels and really diminishes the looks of the vehicle. The CX5- is spot on. All have beautiful interiors.
I may be a bit late on this comment, but the look of the CX-30 has really grown on me. I think the plastic there does help to protect the paint where a lot of chips are normally found and the only other vehicle I was looking at is the 3 hatchback. Imho getting the CX-30 for AWD rather than the hatchback is fine. The ride height is a little higher in this one. I'll test drive them both but when you consider everything, you're spending most of your time INSIDE the car, not out, and AWD is a great feature to have if you need to drive somewhere and it snowed the night before, or is raining, or just for fun.
Yea, I was considering buying one but that was a major turn down. The only color you can get that'll actually blend with that is black. Don't get me wrong I still like the car but that makes it look so unattractive.
@@denalimalibu8502 I thought the same thing until I saw one up close and personal and then test drove it. The vehicle is so slick and gorgeous that the cladding thing faded away fast.
Pyro OneExSeven - I’m already accustomed to it 🤷♀️ When I get one w Turbo, I will show you my vanishing tail lights (0-60 in 5.8-6.4 ish) 😜 Half kidding. But I will then start looking for aftermarket fascia to lessen their appearance. Sigh 😌
If you get it in a darker color like Black or the dark gray, the cladding isn't so bad. Plus, you'll be inside driving it and you won't see it so it shouldn't bother you.
Get those pieces factory matched painted. I do that all the time. Those pieces are easy to remove or edge-tape. Not expensive at all to have painted, and will make the vehicle look first-class.
Current Mazda 6i I have is 16 years old. Purchased it new in May 2005 and this car has been great. Having a hard time letting it go :) I am now looking to purchase a new car (really bad timing), believe it or not, and I really like this CX-30 :)
Would you say it has enough room? I’m 6’3 but surprisingly don’t like large vehicles. I’m 200lbs athletic build and I wanted something a little higher off the ground than a sedan but not as large as an SUV. Also what trim do you have and is it enough for you? I’m very basic when it comes to features I need in a vehicle.
Honestly I like this car a lot. It’s the plastic cladding that I’m worried about. What is it going to look like when it ages? I currently have the 2019 Mazda 3 hatch in deep crystal blue mica. I was thinking about trading it in for this but the cladding is a bit much. Don’t get me wrong I love my 3, just wanted something that sits higher due to all the flooding we get in Miami. Anyway love the car and great review!
I add Turtle Wax Trim Restorer to the plastic around the wheels about every 4 months. It helps to get dark paint, so this unpainted flat black plastic blends in better. This plastic is where older cars got rusty, dropping their value into the toilet.
I have a 2019 CX-5 Grant Touring Reserve (2.5 L. turbo & AWD). So that size and power, build quality and styling is EXACTLY what I wanted. In fact I actually pit a "2.5 T" emblem on the lower right hatch lid - just to show those arrogant AUDI 3 SUV owners why they got spanked. But my buddy just got a white CX-30 Premium and I gotta say it is beautiful and has most of my GT Reserve's upscale features. But yes, the black exterior cladding is a "bit much" esthetically.
I have the 2022 CX-5 Signature in deep crystal blue mica. Beautiful vehicle. I'm not a big fan of the CX-30's wheel and body cladding. In my opinion they are too wide and high. They are both great vehicles. You can't go wrong with either one. Great review BTW.
2bookoo4u, I have the same color 2020 Select, how do you care for the exterior of the car, the black cladding in particular? Is it fading at all? Do you have it professionally detailed?
Sampling the audio is silly because it will go through your recording device then get played on our audio output. Edit to add: measuring storage space by coupon capacity is hilarious.
Sublime synergism This is best of class by far. Studied them all for a year drove many and cx30 is elegant and responsive and so we'll engineered you really must drive one
Especially when they add a turbo to the 2.5 L in 2022. My CX-5 GT Reserve with the turbo is nicely quick. The lighter CX-30 with turbo will be even quicker. With a few more suspension upgrades for the turbo version it will truly give its Audi opposite a "run for the money", or more precisely a run for less money.
Thank god there's a button to turn all those safety features off. Base motor could use another 40hp. Good looking car and handles good around town. Dealer made it sound like the offroad button would blow up the car if used improperly. Sounds like it just allows for a little more wheelspin in loose terrain.
Looks alright. Not a fan of the huge middle panel above the temperature controls. I feel like they could have reduced that and made the screen and climate controls bigger. It just looks like they squeezed it in. Also cheaped out on no heated steering wheel and passenger auto seat controls. I feel like that should just be standard on top trims. Also does it have a moonroof?
Nice review of a very nice car (yes! The plastic cladding hurts the looks by some margin). I am definitely interested if the 250hp engine should materialise.
I’m in love with this SUV, however not sure to get a lease or finance/buy option. I’ve always bought Toyota in the past, not sure about Mazda reliability:/
No ventilated seats though, which is why I would choose the CX-5 since you get cooled seats. I feel like the CX-5 having that feature is important for me since I live in the northeast which means hot summers and cold winters, so ventilated seats are amazing when it's 90 degrees out.
Purchased a 2020 cx-30 Premium, quickly became over the annoying nuances. The sliding armrest doesn't function well, especially when the back seats are folded down, the position of the cup holders in front of the storage compartment makes it difficult to access the storage compartment, if you have a large cup with a straw, the cup tends to hit the dash, infotainment system is anything to be desired (Prefer the other models infotainment). The transmission cannot make up its mind what gear to be in when driving around 10-15 mph (jerky). After owning this vehicle for a year, I traded up to the cx-5 Grand Touring instead! Much better buy. Love Mazdas, but the cx-30 needs some tweaks.
Had mine for 2 months and have noticed everything you mentioned. The good far outweighs the bad for me so I'm very happy with it. Wish the passenger side had power seats too. I'm a few years I can definitely see trading this in for a tweaked and upgraded version or at least stay in the Mazda family.
We need to see your eyes when you do road tests and reviews. The sunglasses disconnect you from people and create a barrier. Lose the sunglasses. You'll relate and connect to your audience. The second setup when you put your glasses on your head is much better and great review overall.

Nice car, but a CX-5 with similar features costs almost the same as a well equipped CX-30. Also, the CX-5 has almost 15 cu ft more cargo space.
@@spinedoc893 Here in USA they are same, hell u can get the CX 5 GT for a grand less than CX 30 GT if u really look around and find the deals
I drove this yesterday and came away impressed ! I may go back and get one
Mazda is a very good company great cars
To get the awd you have to live with a smaller gas tank. CX5 for the win in that department.
How much smaller ?
@@2004cyrus 13.5L FWD vs 12.7 AWD
Mazda deserves so much more love
I pick cx5 over this because the black plastic bottom is way too thick on the cx30
Love the CX30, except, for , the , excessive, plastic, cladding,
Pyro OneExSeven - I’m already accustomed to it 🤷♀️
When I get one w Turbo,
I will show you my
vanishing tail lights
(0-60 in 5.8-6.4 ish) 😜
Half kidding.
But I will then start looking for aftermarket fascia to lessen their appearance. Sigh 😌
I agree, if it had less trim it’d literally be perfect
It’s a unique vehicle for sure. I have a 3 hatch and CX5 in the garage but I see this vehicle filling a niche too....
If you get it in a darker color like Black or the dark gray, the cladding isn't so bad. Plus, you'll be inside driving it and you won't see it so it shouldn't bother you.
I love the cladding on my silver CX30! 🤷🏻♀️
Howdy, great review as always y’all! I personally dislike the black plastic cladding, but another then that, I love the CX-30!😸😻😸
Get those pieces factory matched painted.
I do that all the time. Those pieces are easy to remove or edge-tape. Not expensive at all to have painted, and will make the vehicle look first-class.
Yea I don’t care for that trim either. I would go with 19” tires on it too.....
Current Mazda 6i I have is 16 years old. Purchased it new in May 2005 and this car has been great. Having a hard time letting it go :) I am now looking to purchase a new car (really bad timing), believe it or not, and I really like this CX-30 :)
Might be buying one tomorrow, Woohoo!!
did you end up getting one?
Ya did ya? No is ok
Hell yeah! I love my CX 30
It was tempting to buy a CX-30 instead of the CX-5, but I wanted the Carbon Edition w/ red leather seats, a little more room, and the black wheels.
Here where I live it costs almost as much as the CX5. I would just buy the CX5 instead. They priced this car to high and I just don’t see the point.
we had a 2017 cx5, to big for us, to expensive as well, we really like our new cx30!
You dont get the same riding comfort as in the cx5
same where i live, its so weird they would price both in the same price range, CX 5 sport with a package is overall better deal
I sat in both. Please. Apples and Oranges. I bought the 21 CX5.
Agreed!
Has anyone ever heard of plastic cleaner? Ummm it works soooo..
I add Turtle Wax Trim Restorer to the plastic around the wheels about every 4 months. It helps to get dark paint, so this unpainted flat black plastic blends in better. This plastic is where older cars got rusty, dropping their value into the toilet.
Jeff Ruebens exactly. I use 303 on my Sea-Spark. It works amazing. Makes the plastic look brand new.
You can get them body painted ☺️
I have a 2019 CX-5 Grant Touring Reserve (2.5 L. turbo & AWD). So that size and power, build quality and styling is EXACTLY what I wanted. In fact I actually pit a "2.5 T" emblem on the lower right hatch lid - just to show those arrogant AUDI 3 SUV owners why they got spanked.
But my buddy just got a white CX-30 Premium and I gotta say it is beautiful and has most of my GT Reserve's upscale features.
But yes, the black exterior cladding is a "bit much" esthetically.
Saw this for the first time on the road today & had to google it. I like the exterior a lot but the interior is so simplistic 🤔🤔
that's the beauty of it, really makes you realize how redundant a lot of the buttons in other cars are
Going to test drive the CX 30 tomorrow! So excited to try it out and hopefully return in a few months to purchase 🤞🏻
I thought that parking lot looked familiar! Paul Miller is my local Mazda dealership and I always love going and looking at the new models
I traded in my ‘19 Civic Si coupe for the 2020 CX30 polymetal gray premium. The Si was fun but my 52 year old bad back couldn’t handle the seats.
Good to know! Thank you for sharing.
The only reason to buy this over a CX-5 is if you won’t carry adults in the back seat and have a tight parking space.
This car so beautiful
I have the 2022 CX-5 Signature in deep crystal blue mica. Beautiful vehicle. I'm not a big fan of the CX-30's wheel and body cladding. In my opinion they are too wide and high. They are both great vehicles. You can't go wrong with either one. Great review BTW.
2bookoo4u, I have the same color 2020 Select, how do you care for the exterior of the car, the black cladding in particular? Is it fading at all? Do you have it professionally detailed?
I❤️MAZDA 🔥🔥🔥
I love the 2021 Mazda CX 30 it’s very cool and nice!! And great price
Me too, I just don’t like th cladding!
Ryan Frisby ok 👍 same here
Can’t find any that go up to $30k now 😞
No one else totally distracted by the fact that he lost his facial hair and changed clothes in the first 3:30 minutes and then again later on? lol
OMG there are two of them!! :O
😂😂
I'm leaning toward the select but I'm wondering what the factory stereo in the select sounds like? Opinions please!
Sampling the audio is silly because it will go through your recording device then get played on our audio output.
Edit to add: measuring storage space by coupon capacity is hilarious.
Its super helpful to me that you do an interior decibel reading- thanks!
You're welcome!
Love the review! About that HUD, The Kona Ultimate has a plexiglass one but not protection like the 30! Love it!
Sublime synergism This is best of class by far. Studied them all for a year drove many and cx30 is elegant and responsive and so we'll engineered you really must drive one
Seems like a great buy despite the tight interior
Especially when they add a turbo to the 2.5 L in 2022. My CX-5 GT Reserve with the turbo is nicely quick. The lighter CX-30 with turbo will be even quicker. With a few more suspension upgrades for the turbo version it will truly give its Audi opposite a "run for the money", or more precisely a run for less money.
I love so much plastic cladding is to protect the scratches of body part well done !!!👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
Cargo space?
Serviceability for the DIYer? Oil changes, ATF changes.
bought a cx 30 select, gray with blue interior ( got super lucky ) and i love it!
Get the CX-5. The price difference between the two is not much but you get much better interior space with CX-5.
Did not care for the shape of the mirriors and the center console is
strange . The steering wheel is slick
as hell test drove the CX-30 S .
I’ve just bought one gt sports tech sky active x just waiting for it to arrive in the uk
I’ve just received mine!
Great review. Looking forward to the new CX-50 this fall.
Very good but too small for me. I like a lot of junk in the trunk 😅
Thank god there's a button to turn all those safety features off. Base motor could use another 40hp. Good looking car and handles good around town. Dealer made it sound like the offroad button would blow up the car if used improperly. Sounds like it just allows for a little more wheelspin in loose terrain.
Great vehicle, I opted for the CX5 Turbo for the additional room.
It would SEEM as that 8 consecutive loud DINGS when you start the car - could be VERY annoying !! I wonder if anyone would concur?
But can they be turned off?
@@worrywart1311 Put the seatbelt on first, that will prevent the beeps

This car is perfect 😍😍😍😍
The title answer? Yes. I’m tired of hearing CX 5
Wish Mazda would ditch the piano black plastic, stuff scratches just from looking at it.
So, they don’t offer folding mirrors? At the top trim they should be included.
2022 needs the new CX-5 10 inch infotainment!!!
Awesome review makes me love this car even more ❤️
Thanks!
Nice review of a very nice car (yes! The plastic cladding hurts the looks by some margin). I am definitely interested if the 250hp engine should materialise.
It's coming. This has been confirmed for about a month now
@@mpg65 is 250hp available for lower trims?
I’m in love with this SUV, however not sure to get a lease or finance/buy option. I’ve always bought Toyota in the past, not sure about Mazda reliability:/
Mazda actually beat Toyota recently for reliability in a review
How's this compared to a 2018 forester premium ? I'm looking for a new car.
@carconfections, can you review the Mini Countryman? I couldn’t find a single review of this brand. Thank you!
We don't have any dealer partnerships or brand connections at this time. Hopefully this will be something we can change in the future
Mini's are over priced and unreliable!!!
We need to see your eyes when you do road tests and reviews. The sunglasses disconnect you from people and create a barrier. Lose the sunglasses. You'll relate and connect to your audience. The second setup when you put your glasses on your head is much better and great review overall.
I don't care one way or the other
Hank, I agree
