Making a Forged Knife w/ SPIDER 🕷 in Epoxy Resin Handle / Giveaway
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 жов 2024
- This week I take my first stab at knife making and forging the spider knife with a REAL orb weaver spider cast in epoxy resin in the handle. (I'm also doing a GIVEAWAY for this knife, details below) This is my first forging project, and I got some help from my buddy David Laurent from Made By Laurent. He was crucial in helping my learn to forge being my first time making a knife. I put an orb weaver spider into the handle using Total Boat Thickset epoxy. I used walnut left over from the scorpion axe. The guard is made from a piece of bronze bar over a piece of steel plate. The knife iOS made from a truck leaf spring which is 5160 carbon steel. The knife is a hidden tang construction. I used my Ameribrade 2x72 belt grinder to make this knife.

I don't use instagram or facebook... Just too much distraction . So I won't be participating in give aways.. Still huge fan of your johnny . Admire your work.
Awesome! Done. Done. And done.
IG is Mm_mchaley
👍🤞🏻
Love your work. That knife is amazing.
Yungkyosho is the IG
Cool ass knife
Love these kind of youtube channels happy to be a new subscriber an my Instagram is ss4andros
Great looking knife, ideal on our forest! IG Christopherrobinjames
Butterfly knife with a butterfly.
Turned out cool! I've never tried a lot of that stuff. That sucks that the spider lost two legs, but glad you finished anyway.
That's a really awesome knife handle
I wouldn’t get my hopes too high, but winning this knife would mean so much.
IG: @killblaze
This turned out so awesome!! There are a bunch techniques you used in this video. Nicely done my friend
100% better finished product than my first knife build! LOL
I would love this knife to give to my grandpa he is 96 and he doesn’t have long so as his last birthday this would be great ( trishlyons17 )
Name: black widow
Dmg: 135-200
Effects: poison, venom
Special effects: infestation
Summons 50-100 spiders (10% for 300)
Dang I'm too OCD. I would have found another 8 legger. Beautiful knife!
I’ve been racking my brain to come up with a gift for someone who’s the perfect gifter but never wants anything for themselves- I FOUND IT! IG: @lexthehistorian
Awesome knife and love the video . Hope I win the knife. You're a inspiration
Excellent job !
Thanks for sharing !
That's a great knife! I got to forge a nail at Makers Central this rear and I still carry it around in my pocket sometimes. It's great to get to see you get into this stuff as well and broaden out! I'm not going to enter the draw though, since the knife wouldn't be street legal over here and it would be a shame for something like that to be kept hidden away.
been watching a lot of knife making tutorials and this is finally the video that's made me tip over the edge and build one myself, wish me luck!

Always wanted to get into forging but could never afford it and my mom doesn't want me to because shes afraid of me getting burned. God that knife turned out beautifully. You did an amazing job. Hopefully I'll be able to make something like that someday. Insta:@human_man_person
I notice that u have some small bubles in resin.i leve the resin in the sun or in hot water after i mix it for 5-15 minutes that way the resin become more thin and the bubles come to surface faster...dont know if work with every tipe of resin...
Beside that the knife is beautifull
This knife should be called the widows bite I know it is not widow but it sounds cool
Oh yeah the missing legs could show the power of the knife a knife so precise it can cut off spider legs with ease with out hurting the rest of the spider
Nice job!!🕷🗡. And love the posts on Instagram. ( instagram @ mschuld77 )
Beautiful knife 🔪 @ailenngabriel. I would be the coolest 😎 dad.
@antonioaustin8105 i love to make the impossible possible
Wow that's nice
Would love to win this knife and pass it on generation to generation with in the family
Ig :edward._.ochoa
Liked subed and I follow you on insta (danielknoop)
Tip : When you first start hammering the piece, to give it the rough shape, use a heavier hammer. Even if the hammer is only slightly heavier, the positive difference is noticeable. This allows for better control of the hit placement as you are able to allow gravity to do more work and can focus more on accuracy.
Nice work👍👍
The spider in the handle is an awesome idea

Well I’m subscribed to you but don’t do Instagram. Oh well. Nice knife and good job. Thank you for sharing a build video
Dare I say this video is a cut above - sorry, I'm sure that's been used like 20 times already. But I mean it, this video was awesome Jonny - is there anything you won't tackle?! I really hope I win...you can find me on IG as @ethancarterdesigns haha
Next time don't square off the tang to the blade, it creates a stress point like any other sharp corner, next time you should round it off a bit.
Absolutely love the addition of little creatures to your work, would love to own this amazing piece of art. My Insta handle is tomtom_likethegps. Again, absolutely love your work.
Great build Jonny!!! I’m shocked you wanna give that thing away.... but if you are, I might as well throw my hat in 😉 @almfab (I think you knew that)
OMG that spid guy scares me :O That spider just waiting for his chance to breath again and kill every human in the world :O
It's a nice knife man especially for a first attempt. Shame about the legs. Maybe a few dabs of super glue on the legs before the small resin pour to keep it down?
Absolutely awesome project as always Jonny! Would love this piece and hope to make some epoxy projects influenced by it! @MakersBestFriend
The transition between tang and the rest of the knife need to have a slight roundness to it. If its square the knife will brake off fron the tang.
Yeah, I don't understand why he would intentionally introduce that flaw.
Okay his is dope
I would recommend watching men-at-arms UA-cam channel for more forging tips they are great at forging
I do have to say, beautiful knife sir. Great craftsmanship
Ig: josephlittle56
A perfect gift for my brother who’s in love with this knife IG: @bloodsm00thie 💕
Pickaxe with a dung beetle, please.

Find me @bearplaysguitarlikeaboss.
I saw this and was like “that’s a cool knife.. I would love to have that knife. Oh. Giveaway? I probably missed it. I didn’t? Ok. I really do want it though.” It’s too pretty not to try for it.
Never put a blade made out of suspension bars to quinch
Spider is an insect now.
make me something like a curved mildly heavy knife
Pardon my german but that is fucking beautiful man, that is something that can be passed down generation to generation. Don't have an instagram so can't win.
Awesome job on the knife Jonny! 😍👌🏻🕷️🔪👍🏻👊🏻 .... Thanks for the opportunity! 😃 ..... On Instagram you can find me at @fred_mcintyre 😉😁
Spiderknife
Can sling like spiderman
1200 damage
Inflicts poison (42%chance)
Can throw
When it breaks summon a mechanical orb weaver spider
P.s u should do a butterfly knife with a real butterfly in it
Oh orb weavers kinda like THE THREE FRICKIN MASSIVE GOLDEN ORB WEAVERS THAT IS RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY HOUS AND IS THE SIZE OF A BASKETBALL AND IS 0.5 POISONUS yeah i know em
That knife needs a nice leather sheath
I watch a lot of channels who makes knife but this knife is the best one I seen ( @devil_guy412
I'm a knife knut so thank you for the oppertunity. My handle is @jaschafer15
Love the idea of using something prety like the spider and encasing it in epoxy for turning something ordinary into something special. Very successful for your first ever forging project!

A heavier hammer would be better for forging! Im a blacksmith and i use a 2,5kg hammer for forging.
Awesome video... I would love to make myself a knife but until then I hope I can win this knife @Abisais87
I believe you know my credentials.... but just to be official @irontreecraftworks
Did you have any issues with the epoxy overheating during the shaping process? I've heard that's one of the drawbacks of using power tools to shape epoxy resin.
Skyrim Logic (It's a poison blade) sweet Craftsmanship
Ig, Bencobos
@jaxsonxc The knife you just made looks so cool I hope to see more knifes and stuff like that in the future. Getting this knife would mean a lot my dad is a huge knife fan and this would be his Christmas present!
Nicely done first build. Pretty neat spider to use in the handle. IG: Mikeylikesit9171
That is an awesome looking knife. Love the look with the epoxy handle.
@vincewise819

IG handle: gagesteen03
“I’ve never done this before” & “my makeshift press” LOL come on dude stop making us all feel better about ourselves. You’re a fuckin pro
Great work. But if you keep the corners from the tang to the blade slightly rounded there is less chance of a break at that joint. But nonetheless. Great work.
I've made a few knives and have a few tips that may help you now you can take this with a grain of salt because I never had power tools other than a cheap drill I would have shaped the handle before attaching it to the blade then finish it up that and work with epoxy occasionally next time try putting a thin coat of your epoxy of choice on your insect to keep it in the position you want then casting it after the epoxy on the insect cures just my advice
This was a great video/project. I'd love to own this knife.
@archieswoodshop
Been looking for a knife like this eat my 450g T-bone steaks. Shame i missed the giveaway. Damn
Hope aint highbut beautifully made blade in this video ig is @Spiderfiend12
I love this knife! Awesome craft
Done and done!!
@trinityjmf
Awesome build!!! You do good work. IG handle bigdog5314
a maybe tip for forging? this is just a thing i notice, the tang was kinda thin, i mean yes you want everything to stay nice and sleek but a chain is only as strong as its weakest link and most blades is see break do so where the blade and tang connect, thinning it out from what i've seen causes it to be weaker. its just an idea i had,
I don’t have an instagram account but if I win could you leave a comment on my comment. Thank you.
I've never one anything in my life but this knife is awesome ig @springlezachery
Just amazing. Love this knife. @periclesbrazil
For you next nife put an pice of teather between the kidex and the knive and it saves the blade, I dont have instagram:(
Just found this site. Nice work. @jar052974
