Before I got my first Pioneer, I thought I'll have no use for the reamer. But over time I realized that it's a very useful tool for all kinds of random tasks (including nail cleaning) - and it's an awesome package opener!
I bought mine several months ago. At first I thought that the alox scales were slippery to the point of being dangerous but they're much less so now.. Everything else about the knife is excellent. The awl is the best I've ever seen in a multitool, Leathermans included. I still prefer the Super Tinker, especially for its drivers, but the Pioneer X is a fairly close second.
Just received a blue huntsman dropped it like 3 times scratched it already it was just for fishing etc so not bothered but still can’t believe how slippery it is, might buy this but it’s a fair bit thicker than the regular pioneer
It’s not that it isn’t possible to mill a tweezer slot into the Alox scales., it’s that the Alox scales also act as the outer liner. With the cellidor scales, there is an aluminum liner on the knife between the scales and the tool layer, and the scale tool slot rides between the scale and that outer liner. In this setup, the scales have an ergonomic and cosmetic purpose, but not a structural one. Because the Alox scales double as the outer liner, milling a tweezer slot into them would compromise the structural integrity of the tool.
