I haven't seen such a solid collection of tracks since Dave Davies' video. Excellent stuff all around! It's wild seeing how much music changed by the end of the 60's. And about time we got some reggae in here!

    • @YesterdaysPapers

Yeah, it's amazing how quickly music changed in those years. This issue of the magazine featured the hits of August 1970 and it also featured a list of the top 10 hits from August 1965, they used to do that every once in a while. And the top hits from August 1965 were "Satisfaction" by the Stones, "Mr Tambourine Man" by the Bryds, "Like a Rolling Stone" by Dylan and "Help" by The Beatles. It almost seems like 30 years had passed from "Help" to "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath.

Topping the `Melody Maker` singles chart for week ending 1st August 1970, was "All Right Now" by Free, enjoying its third week at No 1 on the M.M charts. On the M.M album charts 1 Aug 70, "Bridge Over Troubled Water" had just regained No 1 slot from "Let it Be" which had displaced it for the previous Eight weeks. `Y.P` can check MM charts to confirm this.

@@ralph0149 One reference in it actually involves the Allman Brothers. It was the scene where Billy Crudup accuses the kid of being a cop and he lunges at him.
Cameron Crowe was on tour with the Allmans. Greg was out of his head on cocaine and accused Cameron of being a cop.
In fact, the whole movie's plot is based on actual events from that tour. Cameron Crowe just wanted to get an interview with the Allman Brothers but they kept putting it off, so he had to travel from city to city just to get the interview. The whole time his mother was beside herself over his whereabouts.

The best unibrow in show biz! Love paranoid by Sabbath but I can't say he's wrong. You'd think someone with a great guitarist in his band like Paul Kossoff could tell the difference between Clapton and Young! Hilarious mistaking early Jon Anderson for Cleo Laine!!! The Hey Jude cover is ridiculous and Paul tells it like it is! How do you mistake Eric Burdons voice for Frank Zappa? Spot on with Jimmy Mcgriff. Insipid:Ray Stevens in a nutshell! Paul knows his stuff and his drummers! Always thought Free was so much better than the obvious Bad Company.

1:20 he says "The guitar is better than the Band, though..." I wonder if he meant the guitar is better than the REST of the band. Paul Rogers is pretty astute, he made a lot of insightful comments, for instance noticing that the new singer of the Supremes sounded like Diana Ross but without the certainty. Very interesting to hear his opinion even 50 years later.
