Paul Kossoff is absolutely blasting on this song & what really sux is the camera man not keeping the camera on him. Koss. The young man's soul poured out through his fingers. Free was the perfect band. All members the best at their specialty. Young, but confident enough to let their music have space and breathe. We'll never see a band this good again.
The audience look so unimpressed, like they came to see somebody else play but Free just happened to be there. Anyone know what this performance is from?
These were my favourite Band. To see them live was a mindblowing experience. We saw them as often as possible in the UK back in the day and I was entranced with Paul Kossoffs playing, but all four of them were very special together.
I don't know who this guy Mr Big is but this is one of the coolest songs ever written. English is not even my native language but I work in "better get on out of here, before I lose my cool" whenever I can.

If I'm not mistaken however the first amp was chained into three more, at least two. Trying to pick the various models is a guitarist's wet dream because they're all vintage masterpieces. Including the ORANGE head too.
@@ivanjulian2532 Hard to tell but it looks like he's plugged into the Marshall he stands in front of, but the speaker being used (or at least recorded for us to hear) is on the lower left. If the boxes he stands in front of were live, it must have been deafening, as Marshall Super Bass amps are pretty loud, from what I understand (never having played through one -- and Kossoff apparently preferred those). The Orange amps almost look as if they were for the next band (speaker box in back of Kirke covered). Maybe used to project the guitar back towards the audience behind them. But who knows.
@@ivanjulian2532 He probably did. I read that he preferred the sound of the Marshall Super Bass (Malcolm Young also used them), also used the Super Lead, and may have used Selmer amps in the studio also (one of the guitars on All Right Now may have gone through a Selmer amp). I didn't read about the Hiwatts but it would not surprise me, as a lot of UK guitarists from that era tried them or used them.

6/27_2021 Hey @Jospin van raat A. Fraser's playing (& his Gibson bass) are somewhat reminiscent of Jack Bruce' style.
I'll bet he listened a lot to the Fresh Cream LP.
@@ludannelasyvyus1824 yes the influence is there ....but it doesn´t sound a copy cat or a rip off .....just an influence and then doing his thing ... a difficult song to play cause it never rushes ..... brillant
@@ludannelasyvyus1824 I agree, Jack Bruce (R.I.P.) was also a very underrated bassist!!
@@ludannelasyvyus1824 Word is he was a 'reluctant' bassist in the begin.
Damn..I don't care what anyone says, they were the greatest teenage band in the entire 65 year history of rock. No band will ever match them in the sheer talent and soulfulness they had for such young men.
Heard them 52yrs ago & i hear
Them today and they are still the goddamn best band that ever got together & produced music that would make angels weep
Make demons fall to their knees in ecstasy
Hold back the tides
These guys here were 17yr old Andy on base & ive never yet seen a bass player with a whole body rhythm like Andy had.
18yr old Kossoff on guitar
Even Eric Clapton wanted to know how Paul managed to make his guitar sustain that agonised tremor
18yr old Simon on drums who makes it seem hes riding the surf & making it produce sound
19yr Paul Rodgers with tonsils like rusty barbed wire but makes his voice sound like silk being shredded as it leaves his throat
NO ONE can make sounds like these young brilliant musicians could do!
What 17yrs 18yrs 18yrs & 19yr old guys can put an outfit like
Like FREE could
Just listen to that combined sound!!!
Its unreal.
Hope youre rockin the Angelic realm, Kossoff & Frazer
Youre legends guys
🇬🇧👧
Hi I just wanted to thank you again for being so supportive and following me on my journey. I love inspiring and encouraging others. People like you help me to keep showing up! Hope you are having an amazing day..
Those dark clouds gather around
Im still loving the sound that you gave me
The mournful coil still bought to the boil
By your feel
Your crying guitar
The god that you were you perfected
All the days of my life
You sound and abide, by your feel
So young you departed
And it still tears at ny heart
Can I show in the words of my song
I know how you wear, by your feel
Hey Paul, may I walk in your shadow
Over the green hills and in to the sun
Hey Paul, though live slipped through you fingers
When I hear your guitar, it'll make me alright now
God know how I wept, on that night that you slept
I remember, but broad day light
My friend out of sight
By your feel
When you stepped through the gates
Seven angels await, there's no worries
You'll be travelling in style
Mr big know you now by your feel
When I hear your guitar
It makes everything alright
Mitch Mitchell 😍😍😍😍
I played in a support band to them back in 1970. Still love them. Koss is on fire in this rendition as is Andy
Bravo ⚘ a favorite voice I've listened to my entire life. Paul Rodgers icon in music for generations to come. Thanks 😘

Koss absolutely ringing the neck of that burst!
one of the great overlooked Bass Solos
The awesome power of this band is undeniable. Just 3 pieces and one of the greatest R & R singers. I can listen all day.
Mr Paul Kossoff , I salute you , greatly missed !! 😪! Play on wherever you may be !!!
Great saw them about 4 times live before the IOW festival.
Maybe a few metres away from Free in full flight was a great experience and one that is a distant but wonderful echo going around in my brain.
Great band.
I saw them live once at Brunel University. Were you there?
Saw them twice at this time in my home town, they just blew us all away.
The blues is what you’re listening to.
Don’t let the technology take it away.
no,its pure rock n roll.blues are definitely an influence but this aint no blues boy
This is kind of Hard Rock
Blues based; not the blues.
That microphone stand got more action during this song than I've got in all my life
Amazing fresh rock and sexuality
Man, that guy on bass is killer
Yes indeed,he also wrote the song every kinda people, sung by the late great Robert Palmer.👍
What a special band they were, the world just did not recognise true genius
Many of these great 70's bands with only a record or two available unfortunately. If they would only knew people listening their music 50 years later. check out Sweet Smoke... if you dig..
Thank God some of us did ✌🏻♥️🎶
@@MasthaX For your pleasure, M: ua-cam.com/play/PLJ1GNC3ks5UFBTWgAFtVNaSLw_8HaiGSo.html

oh plenty of us did
Yes, we did recognize the genius!
Any Frazier’s bass on this is insane 😳
He was 16 years old...the whole band was under 20
@@bubbaluvv He was actually 18. And he was a butt pirate as well. Fantastic bass player, one of the best.
Extraterrestrial
Best Bass I've Heard..
Heard that man, killer bass player, lot of hysterics about you know who but Fraser RIP stands out to me
Paul Kossoff is absolutely blasting on this song & what really sux is the camera man not keeping the camera on him. Paul Kossoff could possibly be the winner of the greatest facial expressions on a guitarist face ever.
Man Paul Kossoff dying so damn young was a crying shame! We can only dream about what 20 or 40 yrs more would've sounded like.....
So glad I found this clip. I remember watching it about 15 years ago for the first time and it gave me goosebumps. Four very talented, very young musicians in complete sync here.
Kossoff and Fraser at their best!! One of many fantastic British bands of this or any era.
E sempre un Piacere 🎉❤
That les Paul is insane! Gorgeous
sunburst finish classic
FREE...The greates Rock Band Britain...all time...🎸
We were robbed by !bloody drugs of the genius of Kossoff. His guitar is simply flawless
No, it wasn't the drugs it was human frailty.
@@glenncambray626 I think it was Rodgers that once said Paul was to sensitive for this world
It goes hand in hand though! He was a master!
Dan Tapedeck the Gibson- just like Peter Greens originality
@Mississippi kid Paul Kosoff's vibrato is out of this world and he uses it a lot. I would say Clapton's is right up there though.
Born in the 90s but my heart will always belong to the 60s/70s music era. Sad i wasnt born earlier to witness such greatness live.. Long Live Free ❤
One of the best bands ever!! How on earth R they not yet in the R&R HofF ??!! So sad we lost Andy Frazier & Paul Kossoff..RIP. So glad they went on 2 form Bad Company..but I miss Free alot..
We’ll never hear the likes of this again… Andy Fraser right in the pocket, Koss utterly superb no FX pedals just straight into the amp… and Simon and Paul .. ha no words just beautiful
Better than 99.9% of the videos on UA-cam...
1970 was when I went to see them perform live at our local Jazz Club, and the guys were dressed just like they were in the video...that has just brought back some cool memories for me...but what a great band they were
Best thing on the internet... thank you for the chance to see this
Koss. The young man's soul poured out through his fingers. Free was the perfect band. All members the best at their specialty. Young, but confident enough to let their music have space and breathe. We'll never see a band this good again.
Music rarely gets much better than this, amazing to think that none of them were over 20 here.
Wow.... I didn’t think they were that young. Amazing
Yes that's what was exceptional! I'd forgotten that, until I was 'reading up' on them last week.
@@tomcarnahan6351
Andy Fraser was 15 when they formed.
Looks like the audience doesn't know what to make of of it? Love the raw simplicity. They were one of the best of the blues rock bands no doubt.
The pure passion of playing
Hard rock blues.
Especially that Bass. Love it!
I don't know who this guy Mr Big is but this is one of the coolest songs ever written. English is not even my native language but I work in "better get on out of here, before I lose my cool" whenever I can.
The older we get - the better old music becomes !!!!!
She's like fine wine. Today's music aged like bubble gum
Incredibly Andy Frazier is only 18 years old here. What a player ! What a band !!
I did not know that.
just turned 18 about 3 weeks before this gig!
@@thomasmccormack1183 I think 16 actually
Oh My Word! Unbe*******lievable! I can’t remember how many times I’ve listened to that track and it is still the best live anything that I’ve heard. And then you have the live version of Be My Friend which is a great ballad…this band could do everything…Guardians of the Universe.
Paul Rodgers will always be the best male rock singer. Paul Kossoff playing with all his heart on this song.
if humanity vanishes and ONE song has to remain as a pure sample of Rock, this should be it....
One of the best bass rifts, in one of the best song, from one of the best bands of all time ( in my humble opinion)
Bass player is killing it.
Kossoff's guitar tone during the bass solo is wonderful. Les Paul plugged straight into a Marshall amplifier.
@@chriscampbell9191 thanks Chris, that was an excellent reply.
I seem to recall Paul Kosoff also used Hi Watts at some point?
@@ivanjulian2532 He probably did. I read that he preferred the sound of the Marshall Super Bass (Malcolm Young also used them), also used the Super Lead, and may have used Selmer amps in the studio also (one of the guitars on All Right Now may have gone through a Selmer amp). I didn't read about the Hiwatts but it would not surprise me, as a lot of UK guitarists from that era tried them or used them.
