  • Comparing two popular fresh cooked home delivery dog food brands Ollie and The Farmers Dog with my very picky Miniature Schnauzer. I am not sponsored by either of these brands or any of the websites mentioned in this review. This is my honest review and anything said about either brand is solely my opinion and not a statement of fact.

    Just started my picky mini Schnoodle on Ollie. So far so good. I’m just supplementing his kibble, but I like how it’s customizable to do a half plan. I may also give NomNom and JustFoodForDogs to change it up since he gets tired of the same ole thing every day. I also make a turkey gravy to add to his kibble. Also DFA has just done a huge series on the fresh foods. All scored really well.

    LOL !!! Obviously the container is for storing the food.

    We love Farmer's Dog. Thanks for doing a comparison. I really liked the packaging of Farmer's dog, less plastic, and I like the way they show you on their website how to cut the top of the package and slide the food out, one serving at a time. Also using your own fork to break up the food = less plastic all round. And going into your own account on their website, you can easily adjust when deliveries come, Yay!

      Yep ollie cost more and Farmers dog is easier to cancel. My dogs like Farmers dog better.

    I like Ollie over FD because I think FD is super messy once you open it the juice from the unused portion spills out.

  • @lrivera4602
    @lrivera4602 Рік тому +1

    I’ve tried both and FD gives you more food. Also, I weigh it n a food scale n squeeze half out n fold n half n wrap a rubber band n place inside a freezer bag, suction out all the air, n put in the fridge for the next day. Cutting it n quarters n placing it n a tray makes it more susceptible to spoiling. Ollie doesn’t provide enough food n I end up having to supplement with the fresh dog food sold at Walmart.

    Nice job on the video! My dog has been eating The Farmers Dog for 11 months. She absolutely loves it!

    How is he doing with his food a year later? My Yorkie is frustrating. I’ve used Ollie & FD and numerous others but he always gets tired of whatever he’s getting after about a week or two. I’m kind of just rotating between two different foods just so he eats.

    Gatsby can try nom nom… they also have a much better variety. Had my Sammy on viva raw dog food for 3 mos. He was slowly getting tired of it so I switched him on the FD. Let’s see how long he’ll it this.

    My French bulldog takes one minute to eat his food. He’d eat spark plugs if I put them in his dish. I’ve been feeding Acana kibble but would like to switch to either FD or Ollie. Haven’t decided yet.

  • @lindseye9760

    Aren’t you supposed to have the food thawed all the way before you feed it to your dog? And aren’t you supposed to mix their old food in with the new food gradually over a week or something like that for their tummies to get used to it? I don’t see that you did that with the Ollie food. Maybe later in the video. 😁

    • @accordingtogatsby
      @accordingtogatsby  2 роки тому +2

      Yep sticking it in the fridge to thaw the night before is essential to get it soft enough to eat. When we first started with Ollie we would take it out the night before and put it in the fridge (which is what they recommended on the package) but have since realized that it takes a good 14 hours (rather than 8) to thaw properly. Some dogs will eat it a bit cold but we prefer to let it thaw enough that you can mash it with a fork. Yes - absolutely ease your dog into this type of food (especially if they were on kibble). Gatsby was already accustomed to eating fresh cooked food with overlapping ingredients with both farmers dog and Ollie which made it seamless to transition him to either brand without tummy upset (It also helped that he was refusing to eat anything other than fresh food 😆). Best of luck with your dog food search!

    I've paid out the ass for the Farmer's Dog for about a year now and my old dog is so damn picky. He won't touch the turkey or pork. He'll eat the beef and chicken if we add cheese or scraps of whatever we're eating to it. Looking to make a switch to Ollie.

    • @erickanew
      @erickanew Рік тому +1

      Ollie was double priced. Farmer's dog was 150, two weeks, Ollie was 220

  • @accordingtogatsby
    @accordingtogatsby  Рік тому

    Hello all! A lot of you in the comments have mentioned that I needed to de-thaw the food before serving. I apologize it wasn't clear on the video that I had followed the de-thawing recommendations for the Farmers Dog and Ollie (leaving the food in the fridge in the included containers for 8hrs before serving) that is why it was so surprising to find that the food was still frozen after 8hrs. The food likely needs to be thawed longer than the manufacturer recommended time- closer to 24hrs. Thanks for the comments and happy dog food hunting! 💛

  • @erickanew
    @erickanew Рік тому +1

    Ollie must've increased because it costs way more than Farmer's dog. $140 vs $220, for the same amount of days

    I think the alley one would be great to give a try to because they have lamb and duck I currently have both of my Chihuahuas on the farmers dog it runs me about $95 per month per dog and I’m thinking about switching to the farmers dog option of the DIY do it yourself at home home meal kit where I actually make it from home and they send a new tramp packs that the farmer dog has that you sprinkle into the food to make sure that they are getting their vitamins and essential mineral they need that most people lack when they give their dog a dog food so I think I’m switching to that program Cuz it is be much cheaper to do the DIY at home dog food with the nutrient packs through the farmers dog I believe it’s a powder mix of some sort to mix into the homemade dog food plus they also provide the recipes for that I like the only choice that you’re providing here because I think making the packs single even though they may be a little bit more difficult and traveling there a lot less mess here when you come into the packs and I’ll make a notation to the farmers dog and let them know that they need to either make these packages a little bit more friendly are used in the containers that we get I don’t like them because the bottom is a paper container so all the drippings from the packs when you cut them go into that bottom container so what I do is a Ziploc the leftovers Ziploc bags before I add them into that container to put in the fridge raider
