I've been watching your videos for years now and your patience, attention to detail and overall skills never cease to amaze me. Great work.
A thoroughly enjoyable watch. Your attention to detail is superb. Who'd have thought a video of a man in his loft could be so entertaining & educational. And not a train in sight yet. Looking forward to the rest of the journey.
It's good to have you back. Your interlocking blocks to flush up yours joints was quite clever; kudos! The curved corners look a lot better, very smooth.
That back scence really does look great and a wonderful job you made of fitting it. I had a one piece vinly backscence printed by a local shop where I was working at the time. I only hope now that it is long enough or I will have to make a scenic break. All the best. Martin (Thailand) 🌲🌳🌲🌳🌴
Just loving your vids workmanship and advice. The flying Scotsman anniversary has inspired me to build a model railway and your incredible work from fiddle yards to 3D washing machines and all in between and beyond is just mind blowing! looks terrific! your videos are great. the backscene curves are brilliant and the joins are hardly noticeable as you pan around. you can make them disappear completely by spray-painting some cloud-colour white/grey around the areas of the joins. I did that with mine where I had to make whole buildings disappear. worked very well. :-)

Ingenious solution. Well crafted as well. Shows just how much thought went into the planning.

I'm amazed how much the back scenery already makes the layout look more real, especially given there is not even any track as yet. Great work and looking forward to your progression!!

I have never built a train set layout. But I am so fascinated by this form of constructive art. In music this could be equivalent to improvisation (although of course I can see there is plenty of planning). In my opinion, creating something totally unique is the best kind of art. Very addictive to watch.
Tech Tins I haven't got one built yet but I got over 1 k in sets to start I might try it when were done remodeling the house

Very impressed, ingenious use of the double sided tape and Velcro, the curved back scene looks far better than a 90 deg corner, will certainly pay off the time spent doing it. Looks great, top job 👍🏼

In the process of installing my backscenes and really like the idea of using velcro for fixing into place. Great video as always Richard and I hope I have similar success with the backscenes on my layout. Cheers, Jamie

Great instructional video. I did something similar when I built the back-scene on my current layout, although I used foam board as a back board as it was a lot lighter and easier to manoeuvre through my loft trusses. I also used velcro though to attach it to the uprights as I did not want to use screws through the relatively thin board. I also used ID Back-scenes as I also needed a nearly 40ft continuous picture. I used the self adhesive version though as I liked the plastic like material they are constructed of.

you sure have come a long ways already, can't wait to see you start building and laying track again. Love the background.. I am wanting to start to build dioramas to do photo shoots with my HO scale trains but not sure where or how to start.
Very nice back scene and curving the corners will save a lot of having to think of something to fill them and then having to break your back leaning across to model it. The joins will "disappear" once it is truly background as your eye will be concentrating on the rail/scenery action in front.

That looks very nice. I love the curved back scene. Can't wait to watch the first rolling train...I know I know, there is still tons of work still to be done.
Thank you, again you are very informative. Your new build layout coincides nicely with mine.(I started work in July 2017). I used PVA glue thinned down to fifty fifty percent with water to glue the cork on the base boards. The results are excellent, I am informed that you can go down to 20% glue to 80% water volume/ volume for paper adhesion, although I have not employed this dilution yet.

As good as the old layout was, I understand why you had to start again. However, you really seem to have addressed those issues. This looks absolutely solid and probably the most professionally constructed frame and backboards I’ve seen. I’m glad you featured Dean Park Station at the end there. You two are my top two UA-cam channels and I’ve been following both of you for a number of years. Keep up the good work, I can’t wait to see more.
Thanks. I built the old baseboards when I was 17, didn't really have a clue about baseboards back then. The new ones should be far more reliable.
Excellent, as are all your videos. I had never considered model railways as a hobby. 16 months later I only have the back scene to add to complete my feeble effort. Bit concerned you do yours first, I automatically assumed it was the last thing you do. I guess in the next couple of days I will discover why🤔. But seriously thank you for your efforts, best model railway channel by a town to country mile..

I have bendable MDF in the corners of my N gauge layout but I used too much glue when fastening the backscenes so it's wobly...you just gave me inspiration now to order the series 107(9 inches) and to get a hold of some velcro. Thanks. Regards from Denmark;-)
Purely by coincidence I bought some of the very same backscene today with the intention of fixing it tomorrow. I was going to fix it with wallpaper paste, but after reading the instructions earlier and watching this I now know the best way of doing it.

Plenty of ways to do this, this is just what I decided on. Plenty of others have had success with different methods.

Great video. I had the bubble issue with my backscenes but got around it using Spray Mount adhesive. Works a treat.

They really are nice backscenes as witnessed on DaveClass47's Dean Park layout! I like the construction for the backboards..very good indeed. If I ever build another layout, doubtful at my age and the one I have taking all my time between shows, I would certainly copy your idea. Cheers, Bob

That came out really nice.
One good side effect could be that you don't necessarily have to have the scenery meeting the backscene on a horizontal sense.
So, if the track is in the foreground with the scenery dropping away towards the base of the backscene... when you move your eye/camera from left to right, the background will move at a different speed to the foreground, giving a more realistic perspective.

The backgrounds look great and you are right about the curves. One thought I had was the "wasted space" in the corner could quite easily house a nice little camera stand to use when shooting trains running on the layout. I am so looking forward to the next episode :)

Thanks for posting, your idea of curved backscenes is a very good one, though I have seen similar ones in the American hobby. But they are very effective and once the track and everything else is done, there should be a seamless change in the perspective from front to back.
Great video, watching your new layout is giving me more ideas and inspirations for my layout when it goes into the loft on regards to how big its going to be and what to do with scenery especially with the back scene may just paint mine instead
