New Layout Build - Farm Bridge Detail

  • This one follows on from the previous video concerning the scenic break at the countryside section of the layout. With most of the basics complete I turn my attention to the much needed details, trees and bushes. I also complete some more work to better hide the transition for this end of the layout.
Always more bits to do but I'm pleased with the progress so far. I'm looking forward to continuing the scenery further up the line. Enjoy

Richard your standard of modelling is absolutely top notch…but the relatable way in which you explain your techniques really is the icing on the cake. I used to visit and photograph from a bridge in Lower Basildon, in the Thames Valley in the early eighties. This scene is highly reminiscent of that location as I remember it.

I have binge-watched a load of your videos over the last few weeks and loved them Richard. I am not a modeller and don't have the skill to start, but love looking at model railways and really admire your work. I have loved watching the 'new' layout grow over a few years (condensed into a few weeks for me). I think the terrace houses are Georgian (fan shaped fan-light, not the Victorian oblong style) which fits perfectly with the 'story' of the railway being built at some point after the houses, probably taking the land at the back that was their garden, and signalling the change in the houses from dwellings for families to flats. Really looking forward to further updates - thanks for your devotion to sharing the detail with the world.

My wife happened to come up behind me as I had momentarily paused the video on a shot of the road that passes over the bridge, even before you had added the trees. She asked me why I was just staring at a road. She was amazed when I explained that it was actually part of a model railroad. "It looks so real!". I cannot think of a higher compliment. Well done, Sir!

Absolutely stunning Richard! That has to be the most realistic scenic break ever modelled by anyone. By creating a bridge that you can see both sides of, rather than just the usual tunnel, it very convincingly gives the illusion there is no scenic break at all and trains out of view carry on for miles in a straight direction past the bridge. Fiddle yard, what fiddle yard?

Hello Richard, as you may recall I have said it before and I am happy to say it again, and that is your attention to detail is outstanding. What you achieve gives the scene a very natural look to a point one could be excused for thinking you are looking at a real life scene. Congrats. Cheers Greg

Absolutely amazing I look forward to your videos. And after that you know there's a 'but' coming... fence posts are never brown even when new. They are a pale greyish green new and become almost silver grey, and fade into the back ground. The footpath around the field goes into the corner, people never walk to a right angle, they cut the corner. I offer this to help, certainly not criticise, your work is truly excellent.

    • @EverardJunction
      @EverardJunction  2 роки тому +3

I'll add that to my list of small jobs left for the scene. Cheers for the advice. There's a few walks local to me were people have cut the corner. Also some where the corners are walked but that might be due to crops or grass length.

Worth the wait! Cunning plan with the scenic break and fiddle yard embankment; and the rear embankment and road looks good, too. The field looks splendid. When we started using the orange pipe to put the cables through, I suspect that some tamper drivers deliberately aimed for them and must have found it funny to get a direct hit with their prongs.
Great capture of the atmosphere of the time. I probably wore a black Pea-jacket or great-coat with just a hi-vis' vest over it and jeans or trousers. None of this hard hat and "orange everything" back then. The old boy I worked with always wore a flat cap.

Love the look of this very much. I really enjoy seeing your progress here and can't wait to get stuck in on my own layout when I've got more space to make a start. Only suggestion I have is to give the walkers in that field somewhere to go. A set of steps up the embankment from the field to the muddy track with a stile in the fence at the top would look good. You often see these done like you did that step to the relay cabinet. A board with earth piled behind for each step.

I did something similar to my layout. To hide the curve at the board end I built a tall retaining wall on both sides of the track to bridge support level. Like you I saw the unfinished entrance to the fiddle yard. So I carried on with the high wall. And it worked just gave an illusion of everything carrying on .
Some great track level running shots looks very realistic.

Oh Richard!! This is stunningly good. I have continued scenary through bridges at fiddle yard entrances for years. It really makes such a difference. It all looks so easy but as you point out this is a months worth of work. Personally I rather liked the front field before you added the grass but it has to be said it does look superb.
You really have got the trees and shrubbery in the right volume, size and height. A very difficult thing to achieve.

WHOA! Steady there Dick old chap... Ease back on the audio gain, if playing rock right from the start of the video... I jumped-out-of-my-skin and so did my hi-fi speakers! And I spilled my tea.... Not good to start a video with a CRASH, especially considering that someone like me, might have been watching another channel which had a lower audio gain level. Not eveyone watches UA-cam on a mobile phone, I watch UA-cam through a lounge entertainment system incorporated into my 37'' (TV) monitor and stereo hi-fi. Please bear that in mind, a little 'fade-in' at the start of audio would suffice. That said - music is good.
    .
Now that my pulse has returned to normal... Excellent work on that scenic break, it was exactly how I envisaged it should look, especially the false embankment and all-important ballasting beyond the bridge. The foliage looks fantastic, as does that lovely muddy farm road. Track furniture looks very realistic, as per your research photos and that open field is very authentic.
    Superb work as always Richard.

One thing among others that makes this layout stunning is that the track and trains look like it belongs in the scenery, by that I mean the sence of realism is spot on, the landsacåe dominates the trains, not the other way around. We have to compress the scenes but having enough and right details it comes alive as we tend to try to have too much going on the layouts making city scens way too compressed to the point that the city is shorter than a loco with four coaches.... Job well done! Cheers!
