I am in awe of your attention to detail. I just sold my first food video and used many of your techniques and your LUTS. I am 66 years old and retired. My passion since retirement is to learn cinematic skills and create a variety of projects. Using Sony a6500 with 16mm & 30mm Sigma and Sony 18-105. Thanks for all the tips and inspiration!
I'd say, most people don't CONCIOUSLY notice these things. But grouped together, they subconciously do see them, which gives them the feeling that "This looks really good, but I am not sure why". When you get your average viewer in that state of mind, you know you've hit it out of the park! Great tips!
The thing is, people might have noticed if the numbers were super dim. Not only that, in terms of the composition, the color and movement of the lights makes the shot much stronger! Very very cool!
This is the small but extremely important details that makes your videos have “that”. Separating the good videos from the wow-moment-videos. As always: SUPER inspiring!
D. Schiff is a G! Attention to detail is about having a standard, regardless if it's noticed or not. Details are super important, in any industry, including filming. Adding the right amount of detail is key and you have it. Thank you for being you and inspiring me to become better at this.
I absolutely totally agree. I make a lot of short film and it’s the small things that people don’t notice that actually create a dynamic emotional experience for the audience
Another big inspiration from Master Dan. In a well-designed video, these details won't present themselves. In a bad-designed video, every detail is looking intruding
Yeah that's the whole point I think. If the average viewer doesn't notice anything about the video, you've done it right. That's the whole point of fixing isn't it?
I feel that making yourself feel good about your content by making everything to your standard is wildly better than making faster and unsatisfactory works. Thanks for sharing your amazing videos with us.
Absolutely! We love the look you get in your shots. Seeing these BTS, it makes me appreciate the videos so much more. Especially with reflective surfaces in product shots, it is crazy the amount of lighting, bounce cards, and flags used to get a quality shot. Way to go Daniel!
I was feeling low today about my content on my IG and I watched this and damn. I’m such a huge fan and I appreciate you so damn much. This video definitely inspired me 🖤✨
Daniel, as a commercial photographer that also relies on the small details I was drawn to your channel for this very reason. These are the things that separated the good from the great. Thanks for the video.
Hundred percent Daniel. Each video I provide for a client almost always has some nit picky masking I've gone to the trouble of keyframing - be it for dust on the lens, a slightly off colour of a background object or just to give the subject/object a little bit of extra magic and sparkle. It's the little creative extras used to elevate or enhance a shot beyond it's original intention, that set apart pro work from amateur work. Also that hotspot trick I learned directly from you, and it's a doozy.
These days, people expect a high standard. If those small details wasn't there though, that's when people would take notice and call you out. Love that you put more effort in, keep it up bud!
The thing I love about this channel is that you are actually teaching stuff people can use to make $$ AND its still entertaining if you will never shoot product shots. I appreciate you bro! You deserve all of your million subs! There is an epidemic of influencers that make videos about making reviews of high end cameras that they have not used in a professional scenario. I have worked on lots of big budget commercials and product shots and usually it takes 4 to 6 people to do what you do on your own! this brings up another point. Don't get burned out bro! Being able to do everything is great but its also the reason why people get burnt out on jobs they otherwise love. Some people don't understand why there is so much specialization in the industry. Its for peace of mind!
I have always appreciated all the little details you put in your videos. and the fact we had no idea on this one lol, jus proves how much passion you have in your craft.
This is a lot of hard work combined with expertise, not everybody can really observe details which can make big differences in videos quality. Keep up the great work Sir, and we also thank you for sharing with us some of your Knowledge.
Hey man, just wanted to say thanks for all the content you've been sharing. I started watching your videos last year without any knowledge in this topic, now I'm doing paid jobs, not much, but smaller projects. I picked up so much useful information and can't thank you enough. 💗💗💗
The little details definitely make a huge difference even though most of the times they go un-noticed... consciously though. I agree with you on the skate boarding one. Had you not taken the time to do those little things, then it wouldn't do as good. The little things add up to the bigger picture. Lots of little things make a big difference! Love the tutorials and how to's!
This is big facts and applies to music too. As an artist that engineers his own music, I know that a song's mix and master can make or break the impact of the song. Small details paint the bigger picture!
Your attention to detail is awesome! It does make a big difference and is appreciated! I agree that videos do better when you put in the time because most of us don't consciously see the details but subconsciously we're drawn to them and stick around longer. Recently learning about eye trace proved that to me. And certainly the toaster digits and light pan make that shot!
This may or may not be worth mentioning, but at 6:13 in the video the digital push in shows black above the frame. In FCPX if you hit Control + V it opens video animation in the timeline and if you switch the transform line from "all" to "position" and then right click the keyframes and switch them from smooth to linear it will prevent that from happening.
I myself am a beginning filmmaker, and although I am very critical of my work, I do think it is quite good. I could watch someones video and think:"that's alright, but I would've done THAT part better/different. But with yours I'm sometimes just in awe of your creative genius. Every time I try to improve I strive to to your skills. And when I think of a shot that's just fantastic, I always refer to the one with the toaster and the light, ever since that video came out. That light. THAT GODDAMN LIGHT?? WHO EVEN THINKS OF THAT???? You sir, are the kind of filmmaker I strive to be.
That's essentially what we do in VFX. Great work goes unnoticeable which is a good thing. You would be surprised how much VFX exist even on basic movies that aren't action. Great video 🤙🏾
Great stuff. I'm a commercial product photographer, and I do things like this all the time. The details make the difference. Great work! Love your channel
Trsut me, my Canadian brotha, your skills are not going unnoticed...maybe the only people who comment and review are mostly average humans as opposed to filmmakers. But I understand where you're coming from and glad you made a video like this. Keep it up...i am on my way to getting better.
Thanks for sharing and exposing your tricks, it makes all of us better and more creative-all the reasons you deserve the utmost success in your channel.
That's very true.. those subtle details most average viewers don't understand are what make a video stand out. I used to think how the heck they make those simple videos so captivating last year but now since pat attention to those tiny little things I can almost differentiate the extra efforts put into those works. But I can't make a video like that myself. Buy I will get there one Day..
Very true, the detail u mention doesn’t get noticed when done but looks natural but when not present spoils the video. Great work, love your skills abs BTS video thank u
Hi Daniel... I really appreciate your hard work and dedication, which you put on your work. I've learnt so much from you more than I've learnt from other video editors. Recently I launched my first commercial for my favorite drink and used some of your tips and tricks with very limited resources, budget and time. I realized how much effort it really takes to do a simple 20 second commercial. You're a role model for future filmmakers!
If they don't notice, it is because it was done perfectly. The best details, shots, sfx and etc... feels soo natural that you don't notice straight away
Well said bro. People can't even imagine how much effort we as creator put in our creative content. And actually that the special recipe of delicious content.
So not only is the main thing (that most consciously notice) in your video edited to perfection, but so are the details (that most only notice subconsciously). This means people get that your work is great on a subconscious level and can't quite explain why 🤯. Damn Daniel, that's amazing 👏 🏆👑🐐
You are my inspiration sir 🙌, whenever I'm stuck with a shot I watch your videos and learn something new and voila it gets me through the shot. Thank you for such amazing work.
I totally agree! I love those small details and I get really excited if I can spot them. I'm like "whoa! That's so awesome! How does he even come up with that?" I do have one question though: how do you keep finding the energy and motivation to keep working on those tedious edits (on set and in post)??? And synchronising the beat of the video to the beat of the music is absolutely worth it. Even if people are not aware of it when watching the video, they can actually feel it subcontiously. Love your style and love your BTS! 😁 Thanks for sharing!

So true man. The smallest of details can be so distracting. Cleaning up the shot and directing attention is so important 👌
Well said, we really don't know how it's like behind the scenes. It's all about paying attention to every single detail!

I agree 100%, it's the things that go unnoticed that make the biggest impact!
any youtuber thats thinking about editing there own videos can learn so much from this channel
It really does go back to the Futurama quote: “When you do things right, people won’t be sure you’ve done anything at all.”

People are noticing without even knowing what they just saw or heard. Great sound design and sharpening details bring any video to the next level
the magic handmoves at the end - so much details. Really worth it.
Daniel’s way of seeking perfectionism is so wholesome.

Thats why your the pro bro! Finessing the shot or the edit or both really does make all the difference! Keep smashing it!
That Java monster shot is one of my favourites. So so clean.
Perfection is never just luck, comes down to hard work and attention to detail.
So true!
Very recognizable! Better no one noticing your fixes instead of everyone noticing all the things you could have fixed...
Yeah that's the whole point I think. If the average viewer doesn't notice anything about the video, you've done it right. That's the whole point of fixing isn't it?
👌

Once I heard a sentence that claims "good design is invisible" I think that this fit perfectly for what youre saying. Nice video!
I love seeing this stuff so much.
So much work you put in to these videos, we can’t even imagine!
Yes sir. Details matters. Sound is a must-have for great videos.
Your videos are the best. Learn so much from them. Little details added up equals big results.
The unnoticed details are what make it great, if people take note of things it’s typically because it stands out in a way they didn’t like.
It's the subtleties that make the difference and that seems to be what many, including myself overlook sometimes. A simple but great video tip!
