💯, agree. I know a lot of people in my area and I have friends and family who like Smith&Wesson quality and reputation. They just don't have the money to buy one. Not all gun stops offer layaway. I think layaway is a great plan for all gun shops to have. I'm here to tell you right now. If it weren't for the gun shops I buy from offer layaway. I wouldn't own the firearms I do.
Tough economic times? The US added 2.7 million jobs in 2023; retail sales, excluding auto and gas, increased by 4.9%; the economy as a whole grew by 3.1% in 2023, shaking off recession fears; unemployment rate is the lowest since 2018 at 3.8%. The economy hasn't been this good since before Covid.
@paulcallaway71 Inflation is at an all-time high, wages are down, and people are struggling and/or barely making ends meet. The media are trying to convince sheeple, like yourself, that everything is great because it's an election year; however, Americans can tell the difference in their daily lives and higher bills and cost of living.
@@jamesdelong6401 yea my local shop here in Nevada offers layaway also and its awesome because it's a little family-owned shop, I love little Humble shops.
I paid $323 tax included on my SD9 2.0 last week. I like this budget gun. I have a couple of glocks and shadow systems already $900-1100 price but this gun calls me to own it. I shot my friends' SD9 2.0 a few weeks ago and that convinced me to buy for my own.
Best review on this handgun....Appreciate the trigger weight attention you gave information on ! Just set the bar high for everyone else to see how you do a review....
Yet another reason to buy Smith! I think that the SD9 2.0 will become an enormous hit for them and make gun ownership less prohibitive for a lot of new people who still want something reliable from a trusted manufacturer.
The sd9ve was the first gun I ever owned. Loved it and it did everything I needed for the time. I’ve always regretted getting rid of it but couldn’t really justify getting another one. It seems I finally have a reason to. It’s super cool that they did this.
I feel the same about the SW40VE I let go of early in my shooting days. I’m torn, though, between this and a .40 in the so-called 1.0 iteration. It would be more a nostalgia piece than anything for me, so not sure which way I want to go.
I have a SD9VE. I upgrade the Trigger. I also upgraded the Slide Bar and the Slide Take Down Lever to Stainless Steel. I love it. I don't need SD9 2.0.
As always great review. Not much different than the original, but a better trigger. Not many years ago the sd9 could be had for around $230.00 and came with two mags and a paper box. Had the 40 and 9 versions. Good and simple but around 8llb triggers.
I remember when the Sigma first came out and the drama and reviews relegated it from A=list offering to budget gun and 90s meme. I'm glad that Smith and Wesson kept with the updates and the SD9 is pretty good.
I've owned 2 of the SD9's aways back and was always impressed with the quality and reliability of them. Never an issue or bobble with them. They just weren't the "current sexy" and didn't sell as well as the M&P. (And people thought they were rebranded Sigmas.....they aren't).
On the original everybody said the big slides serrations were stupid now the whole industry does it. Then they said why does the m&P have a 19 slide and a 17 grip and then when Glock did it it was the best scent sliced bread.
Bought my first gun in 2012, it was between the S&W SD9 and the Ruger SR9/40C. Liked the Ruger trigger better than the S&W! Glad to see S&W revamping an everyman's firearm!
Finally got to fire my new 2.0 a few days ago. I got no problem with the trigger. I’ve owned and have been issued Glocks for over 25 years. Not a big difference in trigger pull to me. Very impressed with its quality. Love the price.
Good review. Shooting was slow & nice to watch. I don't burn thru ammo eiter. Being a S&W fanboy myself, i thought i wud never ever buy into the plastic gun world. Found the SD9 in desert earth several years back & loved everything about it. Did some minor upgrades on it. Last year got the Shield plus. Oh my....wife wanted the EZ-380. A G2C was on super sale, so now with 4 plastic shooters, i'm all in. Just wish this 2.0 model had been sooner released or this wud be in the safe also. Like your vids. 😊
I owned the original Sigma as my first pistol in the year 2000. It was an “ok” starter gun….but this SD9 appears to be far advanced for the $$$…which is great…S&W is respecting all of their customers ✊🏾✌🏾✊🏾✌🏾
I have the first gen model. Paid less than $300 brand new. It’s always been a solid firearm. Great value, you get a lot for the money. That upgraded trigger looks great!
Though I currently have most of what I want, I love reviews like yours . They allow me to suggest different ones for those especially new or curious types if they want to get into shooting if budget is an issue .
Willams Gun Sights makes a fiber optic adjustable sight set for the S&W M&P pistols that fit on the SD series. I have them on my SD9 and my SD9 2.0 as well as one of my PSA Daggers, the other Dagger wears a Holosun red dot. I found the SD9’s as well as the earlier SW9 to be completely serviceable defensive handguns. For the price they offer great value in my opinion.
The SD9VE was my first handgun years ago even with the crap trigger I could stretch out to 50 yards and hit a full body target at 50 yards consistently. The people that complain don't put the proper range time in, if your lucky you can still find these barely used for around 2 hundred.
I just bought one from academy sports. It came with a crimson trace laser for $299. They had a military discount and I paid $272 out the door. I couldn’t turn down that deal.
If I were American, I'd opt for some 1911 STI or other make... or look up Glock 19 Gen 3 pre-MIM /pre-2003or05/... for Budget CZ p10c FDE, or S&W M&P 9mm 2.0 gen.. and run 500 rounds as a break-in
Cool, I just noticed the TN on the slide now... I was wondering when new guns would start coming out of their new factory. Weird to no longer see Springfield, MA on a S&W.
You're basically in Police Trade In Glock, PSA Dagger level here. Maybe the CZs when they go on sale but, $349 MSRP for a gun like this is a Great Price.
I have the gen 1. The newer trigger is a huge upgrade. I bought two of the S&W SD9's for my vehicle and the other in my wifes car. Though I ccw, I like knowing I have something in my vehicle. I've found the gen1 to be very reliable. If I had to get vehicle pistols today. I would consider the gen2. However, CZ P-10 models, I'm seeing the full size, compact and sub-compact going for $290 to $325. Not sure if CZ is getting rid of the P-10 models or a redesign. And CZ simply wants to clear out existing inventory. Would be a shame. I believe the P-10 models was CZ's first striker fire pistols.
Smith finally has enough experience with polymer firearms , the Shield I think was their gateway. Great review also, that accuracy at 12 is like dead on, i definitely want one of these
I have the sd40ve, it's been 100 percent reliable. I carry it with me as a concealed carry pistol because of its reliability. I have more expensive pistols that aren't 100 percent reliable.
A local shop has them for $300 + tax. I was shocked at how good it looked and felt for that price. Trigger was impressively good. and yes, for a stock trigger it was very comfortable... odd to mention how "comfortable a trigger is, but it just struck me as so.
I'd certainly welcome this return to a simple slide lock, as opposed to the modified, newly complicated one on the M&P 2.0. That was an unfortunate, lawyerly design change.
Nice review! I was thinking about getting a used SD9VE just for a dedicated home defense gun, especially since I have an extra headlight that I can use on it. But now, I can get a new and improved 2.0 for $299.00 at my local gun dealer 👍
I have the SD9VE, it was $289 with two magazines. The trigger was horrible-way too heavy. I’m glad the replaced it. That was my only real gripe. I dropped in a spring kit, and a flat faced trigger in it. S&W was obviously paying attention to their customers.
I like that they went away from the Sigma type rail on the SD models and the trigger upgrade has me thinking about buying one. I have Glocks, Caniks, CZ’s, Sigs , Hi-Point and an M&P but still would like the SD 2.0 because it is a hell of a value and easily keeps up with higher priced competition.
Really liked the review. I suspect you won't see any optic ready versions etc. to keep it the "budget" model, making one go M&P 2.0 if you want that feature. BTW - I finally received my Dillon sunglasses! The black lens version has been on backorder for months.
I do own one who does fire very soon and it does keep a good grouping the only thing I don't like about it is that the lock for the slide is a little small
I have used the original SD9VE for years. It is super reliable, and a fantastic bargain. And the original trigger is wonderful. It feels like a very light (double action) revolver trigger. I am a little sorry that S&W has switched over to the Glock style trigger.
Same here! I guess S&W didn’t communicate the basic purpose of this firearm very well. SD = Self Defense. The heavier trigger and longer reset in the 1.0 are by design. The philosophy is just like that of any DAO guns. I’ve read studies which talk about how people act under severe stress: adrenaline, tunnel vision, loss of fine motor skills, placing finger on trigger without knowledge (which can happen to even highly trained individuals), mistakenly pulling a light trigger when falling or startled, etc., all highlight the advantages of DAO trigger feel. I’ve had an SD9 for a few years. Not a single failure. Great vehicle or home defense weapon!
Seems like a great deal. The only thing I see negative watching your video is the ejection. Seems erratic with many of the spent rounds hitting your head or coming back towards you instead of throwing them out to the side. Great video enjoyed the content.
Only issue I found with this weapon is the slide often does not lock to the rear after the final round is fired and the mag is empty. Other than that it fires and functions well.
Love the review, But im curious, And forgive me if i sound ignorant, But do all hand guns, Semiautomatic eject the shell back at your face and head like that? I just purchased this, And have yet practice with it. Im use to riffles, But bought this for home protection. Thanks for the video.
It was the best bang for the buck before... so now it's even better, I really feel silly I ignored this pistol so much. Heck I use glocks and hks for security work but I even qualified with the sd9 due to its light weight and basically awesome accuracy.
Before I would try to answer that question, I would need to have 1000 rounds through it under a variety of conditions, with lots of speed reloads (hard to do with one mag) and using many different types of ammo, etc. All that said - if it is as reliable as it appears after one range day then it could certainly be a nice option that does not break the bank.
Good morning, Great review, budget but yet nice looking S and W like. Some better upgrades yes, great firearm for the money in my opinion. New lettering ect. Be well
I like it, bought mind in April 2024 shot ? 200 rounds, it gives of appearance of a 1911 😊 the quality of the build Very Very good,If Smith n Wesson put some effort in to selling this gun it would be a big hit😊😊
I enjoy your reviews, never biased and always informative with great production quality. Probably have to pass on the 2.0 SDV9 only because of the poor ejection pattern, too many spent cases coming straight back at you, very much like a gen 3/4 Glock. My PSA Dagger has the same issue much to my disappointment.
I'm not sure it's possible for a human to be unbiased, and I know I am many times. I try to recognize that bias and either admit it or work to balance it out. I appreciate the comment!
Do you know if it's true that the 2.0 has the same style of sear as the Sigma series (the old SW9 and SW40 models)? Someone in another video said that, but I haven't seen any pictures of the internals to verify that otherwise. The old SW9/SW40 Sigma models had a two-piece sear that went both forward rotation and down at the same time while the SD9/SD40 models replaced that with a single 1 part sear that just rotated forward when the trigger was pulled.
I’ve got the Gen 1 sd9 pistol….ok gun but I improved it with a trigger upgrade…..the gun works as it should but just feels “clunky”. I noticed while you were shooting , the ejected shells would hit you in the head. The Gen 1 does that also at times….drive me nuts when ejectors do that. Always distracting wondering if that next hot shell is gonna go down my shirt! 😅
I ordered one of these (on layaway) from Bud's. But then started to have a little buyer's remorse after seeing some failures to fire in some other videos. This review at least gives me hope maybe there was some user error or inferior ammo issues with those others. Thanks for another ducking amazing video. 🦆🦆
My experience is with a sample of one, as is the case with most others. The viewer should always take everything with a grain of salt. I try hard to present an agnostic perspective, but I'm human and have biases. One reason I show so much shooting footage, even though it might get boring.
I think it's cool that S&W did this and it shows they respect All of their customers especially now in these tough economic times.

@@JustinOpinionChannel Thx. Looks like it would be a comfortable carry if the other factors you mentioned prove workable.
Good morning,
Great review, budget but yet nice looking S and W like. Some better upgrades yes, great firearm for the money in my opinion. New lettering ect.
Be well
Best bang in my opinion is the Cz p series or the Canik series. I really do like where S&W went with this pistol though.
I like it, bought mind in April 2024 shot ? 200 rounds, it gives of appearance of a 1911 😊 the quality of the build
Very Very good,If Smith n Wesson put some effort in to selling this gun it would be a big hit😊😊
Just got this yesterday and it is a nice gun for the price.
I have a video out on it also, never once came close to my face
Man! For this price. 👌, heck yea. Very nice pistol
Another excellent video as always...
Personally I prefer this model over the M&P 9
Do you know if it's true that the 2.0 has the same style of sear as the Sigma series (the old SW9 and SW40 models)? Someone in another video said that, but I haven't seen any pictures of the internals to verify that otherwise. The old SW9/SW40 Sigma models had a two-piece sear that went both forward rotation and down at the same time while the SD9/SD40 models replaced that with a single 1 part sear that just rotated forward when the trigger was pulled.
Will the 2.0 slide and barrel work on a sd 9 ve frame ?
I’ve got the Gen 1 sd9 pistol….ok gun but I improved it with a trigger upgrade…..the gun works as it should but just feels “clunky”.
I noticed while you were shooting , the ejected shells would hit you in the head. The Gen 1 does that also at times….drive me nuts when ejectors do that. Always distracting wondering if that next hot shell is gonna go down my shirt! 😅
So many people have had trigger issues with this firearm.
Dagger is a better deal for budget. Plus a plethora of after market parts.
I like it. I want both the M&P and SD now
The old one wasn't bad. The trigger was revolver-ish, but mine was always accurate and reliable.
