Great video. Made/assembled in Maryville, Tennessee, at their new headquarters. Welcome to the South, Smith & Wesson. I just bought one for that reason, and I grew up and live about an hour from there. Not a great reason to buy a pistol, but I'm proud they are here. I heard they will be shifting more work to the new facility as they sell down on current inventory. Side note, there was a county officer where they are based that was shot and killed on duty, and the killer got away. The S&W CEO put up a $40k reward, and they caught the monster!

the "grit" on the trigger is primarily from the drop safety. A little bit of CLP worked into it will smooth out the trigger for you. A $300 gun with a flat faced 5.5 lb. trigger with no overtravel, no spongy take-up, and a decent tactile reset is a great deal.

    • @GSquaredTactical

It is a great deal and a reliable choice as I mentioned. The trigger did get a little better after 120 or so rounds. Thanks for watching and commenting and please be sure to subscribe if you haven’t already

understanding the purpose of these type of guns, the SD40VE and SD9VE the ones before this, the purpose of gun was SD meaning self defense and VE meaning value enhanced to impress a new gun buyer who just wanted something affordable for self defense but a few quality features, adding a apex trigger or mods many did doesn't mean the gun didn't fullfill it's purpose it was designed for as many complained about the trigger being about 8 lbs but felt like 6 lbs, the trigger was heavier having a new shooter in mind so that if they didn't have trigger discipline the trigger wouldn't go off being spooked, so for a new person they are less likely to shoot being spooked but have enough pull so they would do it knowing it's actually time to do so. these guns are not for competative shooting, not for target shooting but defense wich in private citizens terms is with in 10 yards, gun was not made for military and law enforcement either wich in context is very different then the a private citizen who just breaks contact with a threat unlike military and law enforcement who have to make contact to capture or kill like the military or cuff and stuff like law enforcement, the mission drives the gear, the mission of a private citizen is to defend only and not hunt down and chase, exception to the rule is a sheep dog but your not required to risk going to prison for chasing a threat who has retreated running away or driving away in a car, these guns are good for new people as a need it now gun yet good enough for it's intended purpose

That is precisely what our experience was with this one at the range today as we reported. Whether the older version or this one it has indeed always been reliable and accurate enough to get the job done. With the price point, the other things can just be overlooked in my opinion if a budget, friendly gun is all one can afford to purchase they can’t go wrong with this one for sure. I love my sdve40 as well. Give it time and more rounds and the trigger will break in a little better. After about 250 or 300 rounds mine went from a 8 1/2 lb trigger to about a 6 1/2 lb trigger maybe a 7 but it improves

I've commented on several of your videos regarding this pistol. That's due to recently getting one and looking for other opinions on it.
Thanks for taking the time to look it over and make a video about it. Which I think you've done it justice.
A couple of points no one has brought up.
    1) The profile of the front end. While the slide is more beveled, the frame doesn't match. I have no doubt this is a production cost issue. New molds to correct this are expensive and S&W is testing the waters of production cost vs business viability.
    2) S&W has recently relocated due to politics. This could have given them the opportunity to make a change that has been sorely needed on this product.
    3) I think S&W has finally noticed a segment of the market where they're getting the crap kicked out of them.
Thanks again for taking the time to review this pistol, read the comments and respond.

    I personally… don’t want a race gun as a self defense pistol…
I want a pistol that goes bang ..
    when I need it to
People get hung up on trigger weight… 5 to 8 lbs is good , IF it is predictable…
Im happy with stock Glock 6.5 lb triggers .. happy with my triggers on my Daggers ..
My Taurus G3X trigger & GX4 triggers are fine… zero problems
I wear gloves shooting.. like my glasses and ear protection…
One magazine is the deal breaker for me .. not buying ANY new pistol with one mag … if you get a bad mag … your pistol is useless.
Whoever made that decision.. has a problem.. not using common sense to save a few cents.
Thank you for your review 😊

The reduced weight of the original SD9 is noticeable when compared to a similar sized Glock 19 Gen 3. Even when loaded with 16 plus one, the SD9 is much lighter than the G19 hence more felt recoil. When you couple the long heavy trigger pull and the light weight, it's reminiscent of a double action revolver. For me that is an advantage in training trigger discipline and sight alignment on follow up shots.

I have an SD40 (non-VE) with factory black slide and fiber optic sights. I didn't like the original trigger at all, so I installed the Apex upgrade kit. That made a significant difference. With the trigger upgrade that pistol IS a tack driver. It's impressively accurate. My other pistols are Shadow Systems MR920, Sig P226, P365, Canik TP9, for reference. The SD40 is at least as accurate as all of those.

@TTime685 it doesn’t necessarily equate, sometimes for sure. But not always

Only a clown because I didn’t pet your desire to convince yourself that your $300 pistol is as good or accurate as something you didn’t want to spend the money on like a CZ, H&K, Sig or Glock and that’s a fact. Don’t talk to the community as a whole talk directly to me because I’m the clown you speak of. Just a keyboard pirate hiding behind a screen. If you didn’t like what you saw move on like anyone who doesn’t have a desire to pet their ego by clowning someone else to make them look good. Bye bye now
