Today, we are discussing How to do Keto and its impact on burning fat, reversing fatty liver, and stabilizing cardiovascular plaque.
If you look at dietary guidelines, for decades, the focus has been to decrease the fat in your diet and include grains; the logic is that since the body and the brain need glucose for basic metabolic functions, you need to consume it.
The problem is we have a processed food epidemic; most carb sources are actually not healthy; therefore, at least 52% of Americans, 18 years and older, have glucose metabolism issues; prediabetes.
The keto diet is an option for a low-carb diet, usually characterized by high-fat, low-carb food intake.
The thing is, if you have seen one version of the keto diet, you have seen one version, there are just so many options.
Today, we have Tony and Raquel as guests, who will share with us their version of Keto and how they went from 200 pounds with fatty liver disease, to their ideal weight and improving their metabolic health everyday.

16:21 agreed. For me it’s the specific foods that matter. I cannot process carbs, and I have to be careful with sugar addiction. I fast per my cycle, see Mindy Peltz Fast Like A Girl. Fasting is easy when done right. I feel great living on ketones. When I eat, it’s mostly carnivore with avocado and olive oil. That’s how my sugar stays stable and how my body releases fat. Eating carbs is a guarantee inflammation and weight gain for me. There is a lot of variability depending on an individuals metabolic health so you have to test and see how your body responds.

What are the "tests" (to use your word) that you have done that have led you to confirm that eating carbs is "guaranteed inflammation" in your case ? "Guaranteed inflammation" is a strong claim, you must have correspondingly strong evidence of this I presume. Thank you.

@@esoteric.breadcrumbs. Thank you for the response. On the contrary, it is good scientific judgement to question people's claims when they are extraordinary. This is the difference between science, and belief. And just because Brewer has now given up on science (for a while now actually) doesn't mean everyone has. In any case you have now clarified that you're talking about inflammation of your joints which has nothing to do with those referred to in the video which are those affecting the endothelium of arteries so no interest here.

@@jrkob1156 yeah I wouldn’t be able to self test that. Any n of one self study is not going to produce “claims” to be proven, nor would I expect anyone to interpret my personal experience as “claims” that would be transferable to all people. My point is that an individual needs to assess how their individual metabolism responds to dietary changes, fasting, etc and this is what I’ve discovered for myself.

Over the years I have always said that if you eat from what comes out of the ground instead of the Supermarket you will be on pretty solid ground. SUPERmarkets were made for Super human beings unless you belong to Superman’s clan. Natural foods are now low or deficient in Vitamins, minerals and trace elements so you need to get reliable sources of food especially with the use of modern day fertilises etc. Carbohydrates is an un-needed food. There is no one size fits all in this journey especially when you have medical conditions. The food pyramid is useless as a guide for staying healthy it has caused more problems than provided solutions. The point highlighted about exercise is absolutely factual because I’ve tried it and also advocate for it. This is essential discussion and appreciate Dr Brewer for such discussion and kudos to the couple to sharing their journey.

Is a CAC score even necessary to be done if someone eats ketovore or carnivore, non smoker, non drinker, and ideal weight, good blood sugar levels and great blood pressure. What use would a CAC score be? Seems like if it were high, it might cause extra stress/worry. If it were low, then maybe it's a false sense of thinking everything is great. I know Dr Cywes' opinion is everyone should get a CAC score, but it doesn't seem to make sense to me.

My understanding from many months of reading of books, research papers and many UA-cam channel's videos, carbs in general are not the bad and just fats are not bad. (I am super simplifying) High carbs, moderate protein and low fats is not the ideal diet. Low to moderate carbs, moderate protein and moderate fats is a better idea diet. Processed carbs which are absorbed quickly have an effect multiple negative downstream effects that includes triggering the storage of fat, increasing appetite/craving and reduced leptin sensitivity (not getting full). The worst of the carbs are sugar and fructose. Managing non-sugar carbs is easier if sugar content is restricted to as much as possible. However, overeating fats can also have negative (different) effects. - Mitochondria health is vital to fat burning and weight loss, but when it is saturated with glucose, oxidative stress in the Mitochondria increases, formation of fructose in the Mitochondria using ATP to produce the fructose rather than for metabolic energy, reducing its energy function and even causes Mitochondrial division (and its negative effects...). However, when Mitochondria is over fed with fatty acid the exact same negative effects happen with increased oxidative stress, formation of fructose. It is complex. - 4 High level steps: Step 1, but cutting as much processed sugar/fructose as possible is step 1. Step 2, managing normal carbs by cutting intake by 35-50%. If eating higher glycemic carbs 50% reduction is preferred and whole grain versions is best. Eating them with protein and fat also slows absorption. Step 3, increases fat consumption which usually includes uptake of protein. That fat increase should include dedicate increase of Omega 3. Lastly step 4, be active as all motion is exercise. Optimizing that motion view more strenuous exercise can come later. - My simple breakdown. Optimizing comes once these steps are achieved. - Note being lean by itself doesn't protect from dementia though it helps. I believe that Mitochondrial deficiency is the primary culprit, and a very high fat diet can also damage the Mitochondria.

He basically says that once you are fat adapted and insulin sensitive, you would need to prime prior to a challenge- basically tricking the test but makes sense since a one off measure doesn’t give the complete picture on how well your metabolism can handle sugar- reminds me of how easily one can affect LDL before a test by multiple different methods.

But I have a different problem.
I want can't afford to eat meat and I feel upset about the way they are raised fed and killed.
And I certainly couldn't afford the humane raising of animals
Such as you see with from farm to table and other places that raise animals in humane way.
I don't know any humane way to kill an animals unless you put them to sleep first so they don't know that they're being killed.
I have metabolic syndrome are insulin resistance.
Get my triglycerides are good, HDL's are good but I do have high LDL's.
I also have always had my cholesterol around to something 250/245.
My calcium score was 1,000 and one carotid artery is blocked about 75% the other is blocked about 50%.
    And I am overweight now.
I am pre-diabetic and my number was something like five point something.
    So I'm not a diabetic I'm prediabetic.
I have a lot of problems with weight.
I'm 5 ft and I weigh about 180 lb which is way too much for someone my height.
My issue is that I feel hungry after I eat. And I feel hungry at night.
I tried intermittent fasting or trying to eat at a certain time but I still do eat things I should not be eating such as carbohydrates and I still eat some ice cream with sugar.
I tell myself that I am a pescatarian meaning I would eat fish but I don't need other meat.
As I mentioned earlier it is too expensive to eat most of the meat and most animals that you see in the market the meat is not good.
As you know how many animals are eating grains and of grass and living in a very unhealthy environment.
The animals that live and eat the normal ways and then are slaughtered I guess in a less painful way a way to expensive for me to buy.
I cannot afford most of that meat.
So I was wondering what your thoughts would be about someone in my situation.
Too poor to eat meat and not wanting to eat another living critter other than a fish..
So what does someone like me do

Well I still have the issue of guilt of eating an animal.
And I have insurance that I do not pay for it's covered 100% or I don't see the doctor.
Unfortunately I already have lots of other health issues that are not reversible.
I have psoriatic arthritis, osteoporosis, emphysema, low oxygen when I sleep, kyphosis of my neck, forward head, fibromyalgia, sensory peripheral neuropathy, wet and dry macular degeneration of my eyes.
      I've had two cancers.
And was even told by a doctor that I had malt lymphoma which is stomach cancer and never got treated for it.
So I'm wondering if he made a boo-boo and I didn't have malt lymphoma.
Because I would assume that if a doctor tells you you have multiple lymphoma which he never did tell me I happen to read it.
But if I asked him about it he says he told me and I say no you didn't and if he did what he didn't why wouldn't he have offered a treatment if I had malt lymphoma?
I mean I would assume that if I had more lymphoma that I would need some kind of treatment to prevent it from killing me.
Spondylitis, but I was also told that I don't have it by other doctors.
So I had a divided bunch of doctors once saying I have it and one saying I don't I probably seen about 5 or 6 doctors and they have a split opinion.
Even my doctor my rheumatologist who thought I did have it change the tune after I told her the last doctor that I saw that I didn't have it.
Then she pulled herself out of the hole she put herself in by saying I had something else in my hips.
I also broke my l4 some years ago.
After my same doctor told me I was out of the danger zone and that I did not have osteoporosis and I was good to go!
So I went around lifting heavy things and thinking I was fine and I broke my back and didn't even know it but I was in so much pain I finally went to the ER and lo and behold I broke my back.
What do you think my doctor said when she heard that.??
I asked her why would you have told me I was in good shape and then I break my back and she said well I must have looked at a bone spur and thought your bones were better than they were.
I don't know why I keep seeing her.
Maybe I've seen her for a long time and I don't have many doctors that are still in business that I've seen for more than a few visits.
Seen her for probably 17 or 20 years.
I guess she does things that I want her to do that other doctors might not do quickly.
It's not months and months before I can have another visit with her.
Sometimes I just can drop in and get some shots.
Most of the doctors that I see I have to wait three to four months before I can see them again some even longer.
Anyhow I get $97 a month for food in Santa Monica California when I get about $1,000 a month to live that pays all my bills.
      Try that in Santa Monica,California!
I also lost the program where I had the Wi-Fi covered by the ACP program which was the affordable connectivity program from the federal government.
Which gave me $30 for Wi-Fi a month.. now I have lost that and that means $30 has to come out of my thousand bucks. And that's to cover my electric my gas for my apartment my gas for my car my insurance for my vehicle and rent and anything else I need.
Almost impossible to live on that little bit of money in Santa Monica California.
I do have a HUD apartment in a non HUD building in a good neighborhood which is safe in north of Wilshire Blvd.
So I have to find meat that was from farm to table and not fed grains and pasture-raised and no hormones.
      That would be quite expensive.
I'm in currently I'll admit that I do eat pasta and I do eat eggs and I do eat salads and I eat tofu for more protein and nuts for more protein and I use good olive oil.
      And I do eat fish.
I will make something with a mixed seafood and mixed vegetables and rice noodles.
And low sodium an aminos and I throw some nuts in it and some garlic in it.
And that's enough for three meals. And it cost about $20 4 to 3 meal.
So I guess you can do the math j e b and see how $1,000 a month to pay rent gas electric gas for the car and insurance on the car and other things you need like toilet paper toothpaste excetera.
Tell me how you think I could possibly afford to eat dead animals??
And how do I overcome my guilt about eating them?
I'm not religious I'm not Jewish and I don't believe that the animals are here for me.
I have some Jewish friends who believe animal sacrifice their life and you thank them for their sacrifice when you eat them.
But I've never known a cow or a pig that's ever tried to kill me tried to kill me.
I even feel guilty eating fish.
None of them has ever tried to kill me either
I've never had the pleasure of meeting a shark.
And they don't really want to eat you they just make mistakes because their vision is not too good.
Anyhow thanks for your input I appreciate it.
But I am still struggling with all my health issues and what I can do to lose 55 lb
And deal with this carotid artery plaque.
Of course it's a soft plaque we fear.
My calcium score is 1000 but it is hard.
But I do not know about soft plaque.
I also know when I eat animals with fat my numbers will go up as far as my LDL.
      My other numbers are good.
And I'm not upset that my cholesterol is over 200.
I think you need cholesterol because your brain depends on it.
In my cholesterol is always been over 200 my whole life and I am no spring chicken.
I'm much older than the people in this video.

You can do keto as a pescatarian. Stick to fatty fish like salmon, sardines, herring, tuna, fresh or canned varieties also stick to wild caught, and add keto friendly vegetables and berries. Eggs, nuts, cheese and full fat dairy products are also options. Most of these foods are budget friendly. Best of luck in your health journey.

@@PrevMedHealth well, look at this way, the food industry is humanly killing you. So you can feel good about the animals you are not eating for meat. Keep course with none red meat, the food industry’s method of killing you humanly makes me feel better. Naturally I am joking. The food industry goes to 3rd world countries to pay young kids and adults to feed while in cat scans monitoring the brain to see which chemical formulas of ultra processed foods get the highest endorphin readings as well as other measurements. This way they can create an addiction. They are now doing the same research, but to see what chemicals they can put in the food to counter glp-1’s so they can market them but get you addicted and bypass the appetite suppression. My neighbors son is a bio chemist and worked for a sub contractor lab in Central America for 6 months making 300K to lead the study. They are gearing up to counter glp-1’s. By outsourcing a contractor overseas, they wash their hands. And big pharma is helping because the glp-1’s are going to hurt their future drug lines that treat chronic issues related to the food industry’s method of killing you humanly. They are using climate change to combat the meat industry, the big 10 food companies and pharma are sponsoring it. Do your due diligence. Also they are gearing up to monopolize the healthcare, they have large hospital group buying all doctors in a local region and making them under the umbrella of the hospital group, they then dictate the care and testing for primary care physicians since they now are under their control. Keep voting those great Democrats, and yes, Imwas a democrat until until I woke up and was slapped with reality. By no means do I like the other choices of politicians, but we are now a kangaroo country, I will navigate and continue to learn.

Are we looking to different studies. The plant based proteins are important. The study showed it clearly in 2020.

Not everyone is the same, this works for them and a plant based diet will work for others.

Lipid level discussion: Sky high LDL no longer matters? We can comfortably dismiss all of the accumulated lipid-atherosclerosis evidence that's been aggregated in over 20 years of research?

Where have you been? You haven't heard of large fluffy non oxidized LDL being non harmful?

    • @drott150
      @drott150 3 місяці тому

@@naijaman6639 I have heard of them. But there is no large sample group, repeatable, statistically reliable data to prove this theory that as long as you only have fluffy LDL, your levels can be way, way above what's considered normal or healthy...yet. Right now it's an educated guess, a theory. Also, the existing preponderance of data that shows a correlation between elevated LDL that been collected for well over 20 years almost always did not test for particle size. The particle size theory may eventually be proven correct, or partially applicable for some people but not for others.
So to speak of it as if it has been proven conclusively to be true and now we can all rest assured a non-stop diet almost entirely of eggs, butter, bacon and meat for the rest of our lives is the pathway to health and longevity is putting the cart before the horse.

@@HEARTANDSOULOFMINE Yes I know about lean mass hyper responders. Are you under the impression that LMHRs constitute a large percentage of the population? In other words, are you under the impression that Dave Feldman's recent test results apply to everyone? I can assure you they do not. Most people do not respond to a keto diet the way that LMHRs do. Only some people do and those "some people" were the only people admitted into his trial to see what would happen. Also, it was only one trial with a limited number of participants run by one group of researchers. It needs to be replicated to gain scientific credibility. Also, the LMHRs still accumulated plaque during the test, just not as much as expected due to their high LDL levels.

@@naijaman6639 I have heard that. But it's not that simple. The large fluffy "innocuous" LDL theory is so far just a theory. There is no credible scientific evidence I've seen that proves that you can have sky high LDL levels as long as they are large fluffy types {and no one just has large fluffy LDL alone}. Also, where was this couple's LDL particle size breakdown tested or shown here?
