Blurgh... really wish that I had known about this to back it... while it may not have come with anything more, it looks like it was about 50 bucks cheaper... and price tag is the biggest issue for me. 150 bills is hardly an insignificant expenditure... like I get WHY it costs that much, given the scale of the pieces, and I get why they went with the big pieces (what Adam says about how anyone would double take and want to know about a game like this when they see it, making it prime gateway material for casuals you associate with), but... I have to REALLY think about it and often pass on high price games even when they have intense quantities of content (I passed on World of Smog: Rise of Moloch and Big Trouble in Little China despite thinking both looked quite good, just in the last few months). This is a skirmish game... It may be an experience you can repeat without it getting stale easily, but skirmish games are just a similar experience you repeat over and over... Like I'd be super into this game if it was 60 bucks and didn't have epic figures and such, but with a higher price tag than Gloomhaven or 7th Continent... that's asking a lot. I'm sure some people love the giant robot pieces, but that's the devs shooting the project in the foot for me.
Not that it helps too much, but this is down around $110 on Amazon now. Maybe that is more palatable for you. I'm just glad I get to play someone else's game and didn't have to pay
Just a heads up, Weta is currently selling this as part of "2 for $100" sale along with the two expansions. The base game + Sweet and Salty expansion for $100+shipping is a lot easier to swallow.
Being a hex based skirmish game, how would you rate this compared to Mantic Deadzone? Which would you prefer if you had to choose considering price, gameplay and enjoyment factor? Great video and love to hear your expert thoughts.
Whitey Senior couldn’t say as I haven’t played the game you mentioned but I’m going to look into it cause I love skirmish games. This is tons of fun though.
Your review is pretty much spot on with my opinion on my first impressions of the game.
Imagine this game + Evangelion IP... nerd wet dream
Just got this one sale from Miniatures Market for $75 on sale. Well worth it, I think the easy rules and card art are a big plus!
Could you name some of the skirmish games you prefer over this with two players? Thanks
You should try out Yashima, it has the whole "my deck is my life" mechanism and its pretty fun at 2 and great with teams.
Thanks for the suggestion Tim!
Has anyone thought about playing this game using Dropzone commander cityscape terrain?
