that is why i always go 3s in a 4s rig. still plenty of power and speed but not squirrely out of control power. also running 3 s in a 4s rig will help parts longevity.
Thanks for throwing the sweeps on there and running, would have bothered me if we didn't know what belted tires do. Haha. And I agree with returning it to what it's meant for.
I agree, I actually run my Maxx on 3s and it's really fast like that and does wheelies on demand. Maxx is super tough I actually want to break something cause I like working on R/C's, but just won't break.👍
I think one of the issues here with wandering at high speed is that there is a lot of slop in the suspension. the pins are 4mm while the holes are all approximately 4.15mm. You can find "4.2mm high speed steel rods" online for around $10.
The maxx is a riot on stock 4s! One thing you could try is putting the widemaxx kit on yours. I put it on mine right out of the box and it handles way better than a stock maxx. That and maybe a regear, you might reach e revo territory. The stock tires didn't last long for me and the new sledgehammer tires are better, but i still managed to start blowing the foam out them. Belted tires are next. Only broke a stock axle stub shaft after going into a full speed cartwheel on pavement.
You're right. The Wide Kit makes a big improvement to the handling, corning ability and roll overs. I had the pleasure to drive one with the kit and we even added UDR tires and it was sublime. And there were much fewer wheelies and you could drive really aggressively, in control. Good tips Roy. -Brett

Absolutely love the video and I totally agree with what you said 4S power is plenty of power and I love the bit where you release the Max back into its natural environment and have a spin because you’re right that’s where he belongs and you can also have a lot of fun on the tarmac or pavement.. excellent video.. 👍👍😍😍
135 was broken with the xmaxx which is awesome and I believe the wheel bar made too much drag. one day I hope they make these diffs fully electronic so you can bias 60% or 80% front power and 40% or 20% rear like mostly all subaru's
The beauty and hindrance of tyres ballooning is they naturally gear up the faster you go, you will find the random power wheelies are exactly when the rear wheels balloon and gear up the truck but with that comes instability.......only way you are going to max it out is downforce, 2 speed box, banded tyres, geared up to the eyeballs, and a real staedy hand or slow steering servo.
Ya know; When Craig Breedlove and others of his ilk go 500+mph at Utah's Great Salt Lake their vehicles are very specifically designed and equipped. And when/if something goes wrong it's often catastrophic. A 1/10 scale RC truck is doing 500(scale) MPH at 50mph. See what I'm saying?
If your wheele bar is off the ground some. The suspension will compress enough to give the truck more stability. And the lexsand is to flimsy. When you have large amounts of pressure on it, it's going to flex one way or another witch will steer the truck on way or another.
So far so good. Traxxas claims the drivetrain and diffs are rated for 6S power and the Maxx has proven it true. Although... is the 6S worth it? It is for bragging rights or making a UA-cam video, but it's really not necessary and probably takes away from the driving experience, rather than adding to it. -Brett
For the speed runs in this video, we actually had to turn TSM up slightly for a little more stability. In the past, most high speed pavement driving would require stabilization to be turned down, or else you get the speed wobbles, but stability was so edgy without TSM, we had to use it. -Brett
That was a great video, but I coulda told ya that it wouldn't work! I tried this back in the day with an HPI eSavage. Brushless conversion to a single motor, Castle system and over volting it. WAY too much power and absolutely uncontrollable, but like the MAXX, it was a beast on short blips of the throttle. I'll still give you an A for effort , Brett since you don't have my vast years of experience to fall back on.🙄😉🤣👌👍
HA! That's true; sometimes you have to learn the hard way. I really thought we could get more out of it, but it wasn't meant to be. Bet that eSavage was fast! I had the nitro version and it was a blast and really durable. The electric version would be quite the handful! -Brett

I put an extended chassis on it with a wider stance and this helped but some of the plastics in the drive line still couldn't handle the stress but you're right, it was faster than stock. I turned the radio on then I turned the car on and the second I did it took off. The radio wasn’t even in my hand! What happened next was the car ran into laundry on the ground waiting to go in the washer and got a bed sheet tangled in the front tires. I tried to turn the car off but it would not so I had to unplug the battery. The electronics in the car got pretty hot! The wires to the battery were warm to the touch. I waited a few and the car seemed fine... drove it for a while. Second question... the cars trim has to me all the way to the right to track correctly. is that normal? Third question... why can’t you adjust trim with tsm on?
No, usually the trim isn't all the way to one side. You may be able to improve that by adjusting the servo horn on the servo. If you remove the servo, there is one screw holding on the servo horn. Remove that screw, pull off the horn, and adjust it one tick on the spline. But before sure to recenter the trims on the transmitter to see where the servo centers up. Not sure why the trims don't work with TSM, we've done it and it work. You could try turning down TSM with the multi function knob and adjusting trims then. Trims should work when TSM is enabled. -Brett

Yeah you'd literally have to build it into a speed run rig which is silly because there are platforms designed for that 😂😂
Heck i have tons of fun running my maxx on 3s. Great video btw.

I would say the servo is the high dollar item worth every penny, at least for me.
I wonder if that wheelie bar was touching the ground making it go side to side like that. Mine goes pretty darn straight
@amainhobbies were you able to connect the lights with this set up you built
No. Removing the Traxxas ESC makes that very difficult. Had we used a Traxxas 6S ESC it should have all worked.
-Brett
I wonder if the wide kit and the belted tires would help.
Yeah, that would be interesting to try. We'll keep our eye on the wide kit when it is released.
-Brett
Just got it for its size its a fast A nuff for me for now little monster
How have the diffs held up running 6s? Is it still reliable?
So far so good. Traxxas claims the drivetrain and diffs are rated for 6S power and the Maxx has proven it true. Although... is the 6S worth it? It is for bragging rights or making a UA-cam video, but it's really not necessary and probably takes away from the driving experience, rather than adding to it.
-Brett
Traxxas: yes it's 6S compatible.
To be honest that was a pretty bad crash. On asphalt :P Not alot of cars would survive that without damage :P
What gear mashup did you run ?
the swelling tires look comical. LOL!
How good does that esc and motor combo run on 4s if one wanted to upgrade the stock motor and esc
Its just "too narrow for the height".. I'm saying this forever!
With that phrase comes great power.
-Brett
They make a wide kit... modify the tires so they won't baloon... and ummm the 1515 is only 4s capable
What were the temps like when running 6s with the stock gearing?
What about widemaxx kit?
Have you tried the Wide Maxx kit to get the stability back.
Yes and it greatly helps. The rear end walks less when wheeling and doesn't traction roll as much. It's a great upgrade.
-Brett
Hey Brett, what's a "drive shoft" hehe.
Exactly

You should trie using the wide kit for better stanility
Why are you using such thin lexan?🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️

Turn it into a wide max with Anti-rollbar’s
Great video Brett!
Wait you can put a 6s power plant crash at 70 and traxxas will send you parts??
You guys should do a 12s xmaxx
Maybe add weight in the front?
Was the max still all over the place with TSM on?
For the speed runs in this video, we actually had to turn TSM up slightly for a little more stability. In the past, most high speed pavement driving would require stabilization to be turned down, or else you get the speed wobbles, but stability was so edgy without TSM, we had to use it.
