It wouldn't be a Stephen Let's Play without nearly every instance of the game very clearly implying "You can't/shouldn't do this yet" being answered with "But can I do it anyway?" :V
this LP so far is the perfect example of "you did the wrong equation but got the right answer"

Man the health grind was a sight to behold
I love that Stephen discovered the speed tech of single wall walljumping, but was foiled cause he didn't know the room had an invisible ceiling. Also, thank you Dan for saving us the agony of Steven smacking his head against the wall so that he could smack his head against spikes.
That x-ray scope might just be the dumbest sequence break of all time.
Of course, thats what makes it so entertaining, even if I'm screaming internally.
Especially the fact that he wasn't running plus he didn't try to avoid taking damage made me question my own sanity XD
@@Arceus086 I do have to commend the tenacity, even if it was obviously sunk cost fallacy by the end. At least his commitment to running into every single spike remains consistent.

There's a category of speed/challenge runs in which you get as few items as possible, and wall jumping (as well as bomb jumping) leads to a lot of skips. It's been a while since I've kept up with the state of it, but even back in the day clever players had managed to find ways around getting the majority of the power ups.
I never knew about the charge beam into morph ball thing. That's so useful!

@@InterdictorCompellor I think he was unintentionally pressing run after he was moving which would make him short charge
@@InterdictorCompellor you don't need to, I've done it many times before and you can do it by just running normally, it's basically frame perfect but it can be done XD
Especially because that shinespark is weird to perform with a first playthrough
I had a feeling Stephen would intuitively reach the "But what if I shinesparked through the water" conclusion, but I didn't think he'd actually pull it off bc usually the way you do that there is take advantage of a way to make shinespark charge just a Little faster so you don't have to Last Frame it but he just did it.

That door you couldn't open in the shaft is a one-way door. It can only be opened from the other side.

Now if he can remember to use it. He can see all there is without using a bomb all the time. Plus hight jump is needed for wall jump.
??? You don't need high jump to be able to wall jump. You can wall jump right from the start of the game. All you need is to spin jump into the wall.
It's how you get spazer a little early. Or how you fight Kraid before getting high jump. You need to wall jump into the Kraid area. I think you also need to Wall Jump to get early Super Missiles too. Can't jump high enough to get back out after using Mock Ball to get across.

is stephen trying to build up karma to _not_ have to rub his face on every new spikey he finds with that x ray run? because I don't think it works that way. he just found a whole _ROOM_ to rub his face on
Wow as dumb as that was that’s pretty cool to get the x-ray visor this early in the game.
…man. That must have been some stream. How long did grinding health even take? Seems like it'd take a good solid chunk of time at any rate.
Still, that's a really fun sequence break! Now the trick will be remembering to actually use it…
If I recall it was somewhere around half an hour to an hour. It was made faster when he started rewinding enemy drops that weren't the big energy.

I lost about five hours of progress when i did the exact same thing my first run, half an hour to an hour loss is not as bad in comparison
