I think I really needed that reminder that certain moves just require our bodies to work them out themselves, and that I need to relax more.

It's easier with socks on. :) I remember Delilah (Visionary Dance) showing it and saying that the feet don't really come off the ground. They are shifted in a kind of 'Michael Jackson style'. That helped me a lot as well as relaxing and concentrating on the hip moves.
It's interesting to see the Australian dancer Aziza performing a choo choo. She doesn't move the hips but keeps her legs slightly crossed and concentrates on the tiny steps that she needs to move to one side.
