.. . an iconic bike and an iconic brand (manufacturer) . Flat Track is an American institution, with a rich heritage. So good that the XR 750 continues to Shine 😎👍
No surprises that Sammy did so well in Daytona. The Slammer can make anything FAST and put him on an XR750 and look the fuck out everybody else. That blur you saw going by you was Sammy!!!
Beautiful bike! I wish HD would design another bike that could compete with the Indians on the larger tracks. Congratulations and thanks for bringing the XR750 back out on the track.
On my 1200 I sold the factory Harley Davidson carburetor & put a Mikuni on it the response was like night and day just no comparison!!! With the reworked Screaming Eagle Heads, Cam's, and a few other tricks I was close to 120 HP on the Dino.. Definitely hard to keep that front wheel down and keep it straight the back wheel always want to pass the front!!!
Thanks for the video. I was a flat track fan back in '70s-80s when Honda and Harley were duking it out, was a Honda guy, but very much appreciate the XR750 Harley and glad you are keeping it alive and well, sounds great and looks great!
I remember watching the XR's winning races over 50 years ago on ABC's Wide World of Sports! I was on the edge of my seat just watching it then, and still today!! How many of those FI bikes are throttle by wire?
I’m not a Harley nut, but I get sentimental over the XR750. They were the perfect device for Flattrack racing, and I’ll admit, gorgeous to look at. The XR s are actually tiny in size
Amazing what talent can do on a 50 plus year old design. These are the most historic bikes ever. Thanks Sammy for bringing them back to the podium. Wish you were riding the full ATF series on it. Phenomenal bike set up by the owners for sure. I miss hearing them full throttle at Springfield. Nice job and no surprise with your podium.
If you do too well on the slippery tracks they might try to slow you down or restrict you somehow for having too much flywheel. The limited schedule might be a blessing
Love that bike. Makes me really want one now. Truthfully, this guy could have won on just about anything. I think he just out rode the rest of the field.
Nothing like the sound of an XR750. I think it has somthing to do with the bore to stroke ratio. And G.D., 9000 + rpms! I would like to see a thourough honest comparison between injection and carburation. I bet there's not enough difference to warrant going over to injection.
I went to the first race but track they set up was a big L for me, I miss going out to Volusia Speedway, you guys put on a great show. Looking forward to the Red Mile comming up.
i would love to see more riders doin what you are. miss the xr, and it just isn't the same without harley pushin the front. but i know they're putin their money where their mouth is with the baggers. i'm lovin that too.
Did you think People sent their Old XR-750's to the Scrap yard? I saw them for sale a motorcycle swap Meet in OH 10 years ago.. Selling for $18,000 to $25,000 dollars.. I don't even know if they make the Indian FTR-750 anymore as the AMA rules are trying to push them out in favor or Production bikes like the Yamaha MT-07
@@sammyhalbert Yes I read that they were getting 100 + HP out of them, but have to rebuild them after every weekend. The Last XR-750 to win a Championship was Kenny Coolbeth with Dave Atherton wrenching.. I met Dave and Kevin and Brian when I was about 15 years old and they were Rug Rats.. A City Guy turned Farmer invited them to ride on the sand track around his irrigation pond.. I had a 1974 Yamaha YZ-80-A that I had put a GYT kit and tripled the power on it. It was a hot summer day and burned a hole in the Piston .. Got a Memo From Yamaha telling GYT Kit owners to go from a 180 to a 200 Main Jet on the 24 MM Mikuni Carb.. My second GYT Kit bike I did so much porting that I was running a 220 or 230 main jet.. The Farm was Centreville MI not too far from White Pigeon .
@@sammyhalbert My Stock Buell is 103 HP but it's 1203 CC's Eric Buell got 150 HP out of the 1203's in road race form.. Mine is fun and reliable to ride .. I found a kit to switch it to flex fuel. That should gain me 15% power and costs a lot less than Premium gasoline.
It's great seeing You and Dodge Brothers HD XR750 so clean!
I've always been in love with the HD XR750
SO glad to see you ride this iconic racer this year. Watched the XRs @ Springfield for nearly 50 years. Now go show 'em all how that thang still runs!
Loving the old iron thanks for all the years proudly flying the 69 stickers in your brothers memory
Always been a big fan of Harley's on the dirt track , you and your crew rock !!

Man this is so great!! Funny they still run restrictors too! Glad to see you doing this - winning is just a bonus!!
Heck yeah. Love the sound of the XR. Looking forward to watching you in Ventura! LFG!

Sammy thanks for getting HD back on the flat track. Rolling the XR750 is cool 😎
More to come!
Love the sound & vintageness!
Great was great Sam Thank Billy G

Very well said sir. 70 and 80s were the best for sure. 🐫 Camel Pro days..

How many of those FI bikes are throttle by wire?
Wild that bike still has it! Just the KTM’s out there are fly by wire throttle.
Greetings from a XR lover in Switzerland!!
So cool!

Awesome riding! Smooth and fast. That HD is badass.
Sure is! Thanks
You are one of the best!!!! Best of luck
Not only an accurate rider, but a great spokesman as well. Like Carr, Sammy is the voice of dirt track.
Appreciate that! Doin my best to help lift the sport

Yeah nothing like that sound! Thank you!
Next attack - multiple podiums at Euro FIM. But beware of the Speedway “be polite” rules. Aggressive but polite 😊
@@sammyhalbert is that bike timed as a twingle?
No, we're not allowed to run it twingled per the rules. Would prob be even faster that way! @@needmetal3221
TIMELESS FUNCTIONAL BEAUTY.
I remember watching you and Jethro on the 80s at the Supermoto races and we knew you would be great!
That’s awesome. Thanks for sharing. Good times! 🙌
Fantastic ! Beautiful bike - Go Slam 'em Sammy !
The sound of Evel!
Thanks! Have fun! Be safe!
Appreciate you! We will keep it rolling into Chico for our next AFT round on the Dodge Bros. HD : )
did you grind that extra quarter of an ounce off your cam follower?
(lol Reference to Mert in OAS)
See you at Ventura !!!
Nice job Sammy!

I wish I could buy one of those
What oil pump is the bike running. Is it a billet pump? Is it set up for high pressure or high volume or high volume scavenging?
That might be a question for the bike owner in our next video about this bike
Who’s still making frames? Our shop only used C&J.
I want an XR750, just like the Flat Track version, for a Street Bike.

My 48 year old Yamaha XS 750 Trackmaster will whoop up on the Harley XG, the XR is a real flat tracker, the XG sure seems to be a DOG
Old guy here! Give me one I’ll run ya
Are you planning on racing that beautiful XR 750 the entire year ?
Nope, just select events. Chico and Ventura are next for me.

Don't take this in a bad way, back in the da day, Yamaha TZ-750 left the HD's back in the dust. But why was it "outlawwed"?
So cool!
I actually thought H-D discontinued the xr750 in favor of the liquid cooled street model.

My fav HD
Love it 👊
Crazy!
After watching that thing rotate and football shape the track, its painful to watch the guys on the parallel twins try to bend around the apex.
I dunno why Harley doesnt sell a street legal version of this bike for about 10k. They'd sell a ton of em.
😎
Do the Harleys still all blow the head gaskets and the Hondas never did
89 horsepower restricted wonder how much horsepower without them.
Depends on the build and dyno but in the 90's was possible and fast for one of those. I'm sure 100hp has been seen on them as well.
