@@MiotaLee Honestly as a theologist I’d say the opposite is true: Christianity offers extremely complex answers to easy questions. Humans made a mistake that sort of basically cursed all future humans too and they have to actively sacrifice to pay for their sins? Ok so how about God is both one and three and one part of that God, that is technically still that one God and fully God and it’s not three separate Gods because God has said there is just one God, gets reincarnated as a human BUT still is fully God also, and then acts as an ultimate sacrifice, which is a thing he can do because as human he can sort of just take on humanity’s sins and pay for them BUT he is also completely without sin because he is not just fully human but also, yes, God, and then he dies, but God technically doesn’t die because there is still God, and like God the Father and God the Spirit don’t die, but it’s still just one God, not three Gods, but the son of God who is, yes again, both human and God dies. Yeah gotta say, that’s not a very simple answer to ”How is humanity saved from damnation?”

It always baffles me that politicians can apparently just... not show up for work, for months, and apparently that's just something they can do while receiving a salary from taxpayers.
Dunno for your country but they may have other things to do than being in the chamber. Work in commissions, etc. Voting in the chamber is the most visible part of their work, but not their ONLY work. When you lose the majority, you may have nothing to lose to not vote on some elements. Ofc this is strategy.

I've heard many people say that their main concern was the rising prices of gas, groceries, and other consumer goods. And they saw Trump as the one whose policies would be the ones to bring prices down again. Two of his campaign promises were mass deportations and tariffs. Now, I'm not an economist, but getting rid of cheap domestic labor across the board AND enacting tariffs on imports doesn't seem like a recipe for lowering prices. Tariffs might've worked in the early 50s when around 2/3 of the entire world's manufacturing industry was American, but now you can't take five paces without passing several things that are Made in China, Taiwan, Vietnam etc, unless you are completely naked in the middle of Alaskan wilderness
Ironic that gas prices gone down, because Biden pushed down oil prices, producing more than ever, while trump raised it with the help of Saudis, because of the pandemic it was too cheap to make all the profit.

Right on. It is tragically ironic that Americans who were understandably unhappy with inflation have just voted in a president who recently name checked, and whose voters expressly idolize, another autocratic populist president (Orban) whose country (Hungary) has had a significantly higher inflation ever since Covid. Also while Orban keeps pushing a similarly toxic propaganda against immigrants, he and his government have also taken measures to bring in thousands of migrant workers, because not enough people (Hungarian citizens or otherwise) are working in the Hungarian factories that supply car parts to the German car making industry, on which economic relationship the Hungarian economy depends and hangs on for dear life. Four things we definitely learned after the last US presidential election: 1. Voters don't care if a presidential candidate is an actual criminal, a philanderer, a rapist, a fraudster, a national security risk and/or an insurrectionist. 2. Voters don't care about any other country but their own, alliances and ancestry be damn, right with US standing in the world. 3. Voters will vote against their own interest (white women, black men, latinos) if doing so benefits them economically in the short term. 4. Voters have a selective memory, they only remember their grievances and fantasize about how great everything was before, even when it wasn't. This point includes world history, like what happened to the Germans after they voted for Hitler in 1933.
1. Yes who the fuck cares would you go to a racist doctor who is able to cure you or a nice but dumb as a sack of rocks doctor who will cause you to suffer. There are only two options you must choose your poison. 2. Duh why would you give a shit about another country in your own election 😂 3. First yes, putting food on the table and roof over their heads is very important to some people. If you don’t understand that I’m happy for you that you are privileged enough that it isn’t an issue for you. 4. Comparing trump to hitler shows you have no iq and have never studied history but are just regurgitating media lies
5. The democrats threw the race by running as Republicans and most liberals are in delusional mode blaming everyone but the Democratic Party. 6. There is no left in America 7. Americans are too ignorant to learn from other countries who smashed the two party duality, literally the most popular woman president in the world with 80% approval is to the south of them and it came from a third party.
Your media plays a big role in this. I had to search for Harris' speeches and interviews because your news media weren't giving her airtime. Trump is everywhere, discussed, being made fun of, talked about. EU news clipped her and reported on her more than US did, which is a big problem.

I am not sorry for the Americans. This was a fair election, Dem supporters didn't show up, and the result was crystal clear. This is who you, as a nation, are at the moment. But I am deeply concerned for the rest of us, Ukrainians especially.
"Elon Musk used his money to create an extremely efficient voter targeting program which pushed out talking points which would mobilize Trump voters and demotivate Harris voters. His purchase of Twitter was all about the personal data Twitter had, and how he could use AI to understand how and which talking points motivate people."
Exactly! The biggest problem of these elections is not that Republicans won - it is that the Democrats don't seem to understand why they lost. They went hard on targeting a minority of voters who they consider progressive - and as a result, Republicans won EVERYTHING. House, Senate, Presidency. And if the past is any clue, Democrats will go even harder on their virtue signaling and messaging to an ever more radical group of progressives. Economy is #1 priority, then security. Dems were preoccupied by questions about migrants and LGBTQ+, so the vast majority of Americans who don't have a horse in the race on those questions (they do have OPINIONS, but decisions won't affect them directly) simply didn't find themselves in Dems messages. On the other hand, Republicans went HEAVY with messages about the biggest issues USA has... their solutions were idiotic, crazy and more than a few times flat out fascist. But Americans at least heard SOMETHING about the topics that affect them directly. Even though they are idiocies, lies etc. They felt like one side had a hand on the pulse of the nation, while the other was focusing on the less important things. Celebrity endorsements actually didn't help, quite the contrary. People that have troubles with rent, finding/keeping a job, crime... were bombarded from the Democratic side from millionaire stars talking about how Dems are progressive and how their policies on LGBTQ, DEI and immigration are so cool. So an average person watching that went "Huh? What the hell? Have these people ever left their ivory towers?! I don't care about those things!!!". That is why many Dem voters either stayed home or actually voted for the Republicans. And just look at the next election, both mid-term and the next presidential ones. Dems will use the SAME approach, just even harder next time - and if they happen to win, it will be only because people would be absolutely sick and tired of Trump and his goons, rather than ACTUALLY SUPPORTING Democrats. In short, Democrats need to get the head out of their a$$es and set a clear priority list. 3 main issues. Go! All the rest? Don't even f-ing mention them! Waters down the message, people already know where you stand compared to the other team, so just avoid them. But, this is a UA-cam comment, who the hell cares...
The current theory I'm noodling with is that celebrity is akin to royalty in the USA. Voters don't know anything about geopolitics but they know everything about celebrities, and Trump is quite simply a bigger celebrity than Harris. It's winners and losers at the expense of substance.

Unique is strange way to put it when the UK only finally booted out their ghouls by voting for a Labor party that jettisoned all minority rights rhetoric, France only held off their immigrant-hating far-right by scraping together a coalition that Macron then ignored, and Germany is yearly seeing their nativist AfD sweeping through the Länder one by one. Last time I checked Italy, Finland, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia and the Czech Republic already had far-right governments. In South America, Argentina's Millei surely needs no mention. In Asia, South Korea's Yoon came to power by riding anti-feminist and anti-establishment anger at the administration that successfully saved them from Covid. I could go on. Honestly, I lay a lot of the blame at Merrick Garland's doorstep. if he hadn't dragged his feet for so long trying to appear 'non partisan' then it's likely Trump would have been convicted on several of his more serious crimes,, at at the very least a lot of details of what he did would have been in the public sphere. This would have made it vastly more difficult for the RNC to post him as the nominee, and more of the public would been informed about his criminal activities and seen consequences Garland didn't hand the position to Trump by himself, but he sure as hell facilitated it, and his stalling wound up being the complete opposite of 'non partisan'.
People wouldn't have cared. Trump, before his 2016, said in a debate: "The whole system is rigged." "How do you know that?" "Because I use it to my advantage all the time." He was BLATANT about his disregard of rules. Him pointing out the obvious in this regard is what originally got him famous. Hell, the more he bragged about flaunting the law, the more people voted for him, because "meh, every politician is corrupt, Trump at least says it as it is instead of trying to tell us some bs about how clean he is". Hell, it appeals to a LOT of Americans, because they see the free-spirited entrepreneur in him: "hell with the rules, get yours, get it today, beat others in the race to getting it". For Trump, his case wasn't a detriment, it was free advertisement.

Two of his campaign promises were mass deportations and tariffs.
Now, I'm not an economist, but getting rid of cheap domestic labor across the board AND enacting tariffs on imports doesn't seem like a recipe for lowering prices. Ironic that gas prices gone down, because Biden pushed down oil prices, producing more than ever, while trump raised it with the help of Saudis, because of the pandemic it was too cheap to make all the profit.

Four things we definitely learned after the last US presidential election:
2. Duh why would you give a shit about another country in your own election 😂
6. There is no left in America
7. Americans are too ignorant to learn from other countries who smashed the two party duality, literally the most popular woman president in the world with 80% approval is to the south of them and it came from a third party.
So this comes down to one main rule: people either stupid or selfish.

Blame yourselves. What did u actually do to help? U voted your 1 vote, talked crap about trump. That doesn't change minds.
Merrick made the right call. It's like when people get away from a situation becuz they could let their bias get in the way.
They had 4 years.
Btw it didn't even matter. Kamala and trump are on the same team anyway. Sometimes they play defense sometimes they play offense.
They pretend to fight alot but by the end they are all just interested in lining their own pockets, even if injustice has been caused
@@imrane161 His job is to enforce the law, not opinions. Trump broke the law in blatant ways, in ways that when other people have done the same were put in jail pretty much instantly. Instead he sat on his hands for years.
Wow! 26:51 on....Thank you, John Oliver, for expressing everything I've been feeling since the election results: I cried; I laughed; I got as mad as you did. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! (From a Brazilian who lived in the US for more than 10 years; from somebody whomade amazing friends from different walks of life there and who were my chosen family; somebody who lived through cRump's 1st presidency and came back to Brazil to live through the last 2 years of Bolsonaro's presidency; somebody who loves the US so much; somebody who is scared shitless for my American friends). Thank you and your team for such an AMAZING and FANTASTIC show every week! 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
I'm sorry, I don't buy that half the country was that stupid that they didn't understand inflation was a global phenomenon. They wanted an excuse to vote for him - and their reasons for wanting to do that are chilling.
Yeah. It's a combination of being ignorant and morally corrupt.
I mean yeah i agree w you but also it’d surprise you how out of touch and ignorant most Americans are, and thats across the board including the educated
Out of touch* from the perspective of a foreigner
Fox News didn't run news on inflation in the world.
I have talked to several of them, they sincerely does not understand inflation nor tariffs
Guess we’re all strapped in for four more years of Trump jokes, what could possibly go wrong?
Progressives are the real leftists. Democrats rather have Trump than Bernie as presidents. Both parties work for the oligarchy.
Stockholm, Sweden 🇸🇪
Democrats rather lose to republicans than let a progressive win because D & R are one party
The one good thing we can obviously expect is quality memes
Tariffs tanking the economy, people getting deported on unthinkable scales, looks like we're gonna be knee deep in crap flow
Everything. Everything could go wrong. tRump had guard rails during his first term. Now he doesn't. It's going to get really ugly if he goes ahead with ending ACA, mass deportations and massive tariffs.
thanks...needed this
First time I felt like all was not lost. Thanks John Oliver. Also was incredibly relieving to see him mildly lose it and yell fuck you.
Haven't watched yet, but I've been waiting for John's take more than anyone else since the election. Strap in here we gooooo
35:59 that 'goodbye' is a really nice touch
Looks like U.S is gonna have an epidemic of leopards.
So many faces for them to eat
Why do anything... Let it all go to shit. Leave Trump a horrible economy, let him do his worse, let these voters see what they voted for.
Things will definitely get worse. But Trump will just hold a rally, tell his followers that things are great, and they'll cheer for it anyway.
Because, you coward, there are people who definitely didn't vote for this, don't derserve it, and who ought to be the solution to the problems Trump creates or worsens during his term.
This jackwipe suggested to inject disinfectant on people's body and sows disbelief on HIS OWN HEALTH ADVISORS.
Nothing will get through them, literally nothing
They would never admit he's unqualified.
They lived through it just four years ago. Didn't work, didn't learn. They need deprogramming like cultists do.
This is the best anti Trump rant, let me tell you. Very beautiful. I saw millions and millions of Oliver's tears but this ones are the best.
You can't educate the general public. They don't know what tariffs are either
Trump also inherited the Obama economy, which had been going up since 2009
YOu can. America just chose not to, with their "no child left behind" mindset, that, ironically, ended up leaving ALL children behind.
And even when you tell them, they STILL don't know
another week, another banger. thank you john..
while this might be the worst case scenario, let's not lose hope..
I am not american and live in Europe, but i was very invested in the election.
I feel very election depressed, i have unsubscribed from most political channels now. I need a breakcfir now before re-engaging in politics
Yes you should also delete your twitter account if you have one. In this moment you need to retreat into the depth of the echo chamber or you will receive a reality check.
The world couldn't believe America chose him once... they are flabbergasted they chose him again....
The world doesn't have much of a hill to stand on politically as countries across the globe are shifting right and people keep voting for insane political arguments that hurt mostly themselves. Basically, the modern liberal capitalist experiment is beginning to break down and becuase people are too disenfranchised to do anything about it, they're all voting for self-centered strongmen in the hopes they'll do something about it. It's insane, but the line of reasoning tracks.
Just when i thought to check the channel for the new episode and here it is..
John if you want to understand Trump you need to study Berlusconi. He did everything Trump did, 20 years before. And I include claiming to bring peace to the world, being judged guilty of corruption...and so on.
He already has studied Berlusconi.
The thing is the cult of Berlusconi ended after his impeachment, conviction and ban from running for office for over a decade.
The US had a chance to follow that route and messed it up.
Furthermore, Berlusconi didn't have the completely unchecked power as Premier of Italy as Trump has as President of the most powerful empire in the history of humanity.
Continuing the comparison, Meloni has been great. Hope America survives Trump and proves that they deserve their own Meloni
I allways thought in 2016 trump managed to con usa,
Now im like "you voted for him so suffer the consecuenses"😅
the thing is
we will also suffer the consequences to some extent

It is surpremely frustrating to see how BAD democrats are at messaging about the beneficial things they do for Americans!! How on earth can you not learn to evolve in that respect??! If GOP had accomplished The Pact Act, The Infrastructure Bill, The Chips and Science Act and saved the pensions of 1,3 million Teamsters, you would NEVER had had a waking rest from hearing about those accomplishments in every media outlet across the land!
Aren't those Biden accomplishments? Maybe the issue is that Kamala never got around to decide if she was running as Biden's succesor or if she was throwing him in under the bus for every bad thing.
Those are not necessarily seen as good things. Pensions -> handouts. Chips Act -> stealth way of inserting federal childcare and other liberal agenda. They are good if you are liberal, but it is not necessarily popular with independents
That is actually the problem. Your media wasn't clipping Harris or reporting on her. They snubbed her of airtime while Trump is all over the place repeating old crap. I am in the EU and our media showed her rallies and speeches more than US did. It is obvious that she was muffed.

it is depressing to see Musk talking about wasing taxpayer money, while he's blowing up
Guy used to stealing money from systems is excited to steal more money from systems.
He's just talking to his useful idiots. Watch all of these Trump supporters regret their vote in the coming years. Hell, it happened last time which is why Biden won.
Funny how poor people voted for him to take from their pocket. Americans are so dumb.
The man also now has way too much influence; him sitting in on talks with world leaders is terrifying.
John Oliver is making jokes but I can feel how dead he is inside, and how he is holding back his tears. I still like him for at least trying to continue to be funny, I mean, if you compared him to the other clowns like Jimmy Kimmel and the others, at least Oliver tries to be funny
Can't blame him, John Oliver is clearly a hardcore Liberal
I pleaded in my comment last week to not give John Oliver another four years of Trump material and to stop the streak of demagogues taking power. But here we are, in this cursed timeline.
"your money is being wasted" (by being spent on helping you)
Anyone else hear that second part? It seemed really loud to me.

"You can always count on Americans to do the right thing - after they've tried everything else."
I watched nearly all Harris rallies and interviews. I didn't hear her talking about transpeople in sports ONCE! What is it with Americans and the truth?? How do they not know how to fact check information?? WTF?!
And then the press blamed HARRIS. There's one of your biggest problems - your journalists are nothing but propagandist liars
It's not that they don't know how to fact-check, it's that they don't want to.
Yeah my problem is these people do not want to do research. They want the solution to come to them. This is why they invented AI and why AI fucking sucks since it's an American who did that.
And. I think that was the issue. That she said nothing. So people thought they were going to get more of the same as with Biden
She doesn't talk about it in the current election, because it is vote losing. But she does talk about the transgender in the past. More importantly, the Democrat party as a whole is being punished, not necessarily her alone
We always considered Trump the kind of person Russia would choose. Liquor stores are doing a brisk business throughout Russia. Let's keep an eye on what happens here.
In Russia there is no elections. At any level. Forget about it, don’t fool yourself.

But food in America IS expensive. Like, crazy. I live in France and heads would roll if croissants were $6 and cheese $11 for a small lump. I was gobbsmacked.
It's Corporate greed keeping Prices high.
@ It’s a problem. I’d be pissed too if I had to pay that for food. I obviously voted for Harris, but I left the US for a reason…. Far more than just expensive food.
Don't want to throw cold water on your pity party, but it's a bit disingenuous to claim that croissants are $6 and cheese is $11 ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. Maybe in one or two very high priced markets, but nationally, the average cost can range from $1.50 to $4.00 per croissant, while in Europe it can range from €0.80 to €2.50. Which is pretty much inline with France's national pricing of 1 to 2 euros per croissant.
It's hard to laugh about the result, an as a Latinamerican, it's going to be bad news for us
You know what's the saddest part about it? almost 45% of Latinos voted for the guy. I'm Venezuelan, and I cringe every time I see Venezuelans wanting a guy like Trump in office, seems like the only thing we learned from our dictatorship is to vote for far right extremists.

Smart people, learn from their mistakes. America's plurality, didn't. How much more does it have to hurt before you actually learn?
They won't learn until it affects them personally, their whole society is selfish garbage. Hell even those affected like latinos lie to themselves and vote for their bane, because each person thinks that they are better than their kin.
The reaction in every country hurt by America:
"They elected Trump again? Good. Fuck em"

17:01 "He lies so constantly people have a sense that you can pick and choose which things he actually believes, and create a version of him that suits you, and that can be the case even when his intentions are very clear" Here I thought lying should be disqualifying for a politician, but apparently it's just a way of leveraging confirmation bias (instead of perceiving the contradictions, people will just believe what's convenient for them, and ignore everything else).
Donnie is unfit for office. That much is pretty undeniable to anyone who thinks critically. So the way most people justify their choices, is by saying something like _"I'm not voting for the guy, but his policies, or his team, or his plans, etc"_ . Fine. They can use whatever story they want. But it ultimately came down to this: Given how bad Donnie is, imagine how massively the Dems and the Harris campaign fucked up in order for people to still think "I'm gonna choose Trump anyway".
Harris and the Dems only had one job. To present themselves as better than Trump. And they failed at even that low bar.
the Michael Cohen live part was amazing

You need to cover the dangers of social media, specifically tiktok, not just in general, but in how much they contributed to this election being lost
the slow transformation of twitter into a racist, transphobic, edgy hellhole since elon bought it is a great microcosm of this, lots of young people are becoming radicalized because social media encourages the most mean spirited, over the top attitude for maximum engagement, it really needs to be taken more seriously
