Robert, from one Rob to another, Thanks a ton man! You've walked me through a few maintenance jobs on my R and given me a ton of courage! Also, your haircut looks great!
Yes before ripping everything apart check your hose and tree connections first. Leaned the hard way in my S70. Hard old and leak a lot. Me every morning 😁🤗🤣
Hello Robert! I have a 1998 volvo s70 and through your videos i have now relised that it is indeed in need of a new PCV system (oil leaks from cylinder head cover and some other parts, aswell as blows up the glove). However, the motor in it does not match this one sense its the 10V 2.4 liter engine ( B5252S ). I cant find for for the life of me a new set of PCV but more importantly, it does not have a tube that goes next to the oil cap. Therefore im stunned on how PCV system works on my car and cant get a replacment for that reason. Ive own the car for about 1 month and the guy before me drove it way, WAY to little. With 156 250 mils on the clock the motor works fine and starts like a champ. Thanks for these informetive videos and hope you can help me find an awnser.
Robert my jeep 4 cylinder kept blowing out oil of the dipstick and making a mess,so I re- routed the line and removed the pcv valve and installed a en-valve that worked for a while, now it is just blowing oil out of every seal, but runs ok and still has good power, but I guess it's rebulid time
Hey Robert, awesome video as always :) My '96 850R has only 105,000 miles on it but fails the glove test due to pressure in the engine. I have bought the parts to do a PCV service/clean/change. Before I do that, I have a question. I noticed today that the vacuum hose connected to the left hand side (when looking at it) of the inlet manifold is broken and therefore there is no vacuum connection between this port on the inlet manifold and the PTC valve on the turbo inlet. You suggest an issue with this vacuum hose could cause a glove test fail, but my car starts, idles and runs smoothly. How can that be if the vacuum hose is broken completely? Thanks dude :)
For some strange reason my PCV system is still working perfectly in my '03 S60 (181K). Maybe because of the frequent synthetic oil changes? I've done just about EVERY other common Volvo maintenance/replacement/repair at this point. The car runs as good as new still.
Be Careful with what types of engine degreasers you use many will tarnish the aluminum. I would make sure the engine is 100% cold cover the alternator and after cleaning dry it with a blower like compressed air or leaf blower. I would also make sure that no water gets in the spark plug tubes or its gonna misfire like crazy when you start it. I myself would recommend contacting a detailer in your area. Most detailer will do just the engine detail for under 50$ and if they damage the car they have insurance.
Hi Robert, I'm watching you today from my part-time job. I have a 2001 V70 XC with a 170,000 miles. Overall a very nice car, but it won't run past 10 miles per hour. As soon as I press the gas pedal it blows off the hose from the throttle body. It is (was) securely clamped and I even had a heavy duty zip tie on it for backup. I have done many replacements and am in the middle of the PVC system. I bought a kit from the good folks at FCPEuro. I did find some blockage in the banjo bolt, but the ports into the engine were clear. The large aluminum pipe was disconnected and someone had but a bolt in the rubber hose to block it off below the engine mount. Before I put all this back together, is there anything else you think I should do? It is a rather ominous job that I don't want to have to repeat. Thanks, from desperate in SC. So far all is well here, and I do hope life in Albuquerque is good. Rush L. Workman
Hey Robert! Sunroof dude.. again! I need a used pair of rails, specifically im talking about the parts that clip/screw in and connect DIRECTLY with the sunroof, mine corroded and flew off, please help me out!

Hi Robert, I have been chasing around the issue that my 98 v70 after doing the pcv change the car is blowing out more smoke out the dip stick and not passing the glove test, i have watched all the post pcv servicing videos and cant figure it out. Do you think I would be fine driving around the way it is or should i keep trying to figure it out ?
Hey Robert, my 1995 850 Turbo has compression between 145-155 on all cylinders. I have replaced all the PCV system and hoses with OEM Volvo, cleared the ports in the block (they weren't clogged to begin with), and cleared the PTC but I'm still failing the glove test and have a smoking dipstick. What's next?? Do you think I need to drop the oil pan? The car was sitting about 2 years when I bought it. I can blow through a tube in the lower engine port and I hear bubbling in the oil pan, so I know it's not blocked up.
@@RobertDIY do you think my compression (145-155) is good enough to not be the cause? I'm just not sure what else it could be. Have you ever heard of widening the PTC hole for more flow?
Look on the forums. Use larger pipes (I mean the rubber tubing) and the system will breathe better. You will need a new pcv box, and all new parts. Clear the turbo valve thingy. And then the two rubber hoses , that are combined into one , DONT USE THIS FACTORY PART. Use home depot and auto parts store parts, and "upside" these hoses. The system will breathe better and will work. My v70 1998 had 244k miles on it when I did this last month. Just do some searching on the 5 cylinder turbo volvo forums, you know the ones. Hope this helps! Let us know what you find
Hey Robert I replaced my pcv system on my 99 Volvo v70 non turbo and my mechanic pulled a code saying it's running too rich and that he ran smoke through the system and it was leaking from the PCV under the manifold and is leaking from the manifold itself. He also said on of the bolts were lose. Do you think if I just tighten the manifold it should seal itself more and that maybe one of the PCV hoses aren't all the way connected. I know it's hard for you to tell when your not here to look at it but if you have any information that could help me I would very much appreciate it. And thank you for all your help in the past.
Hey robert, I do the glove test and my glove sucks in, and once I rev it, it almost eats the glove up, is it safe to say the PCV is 100% fine? reason im asking is i've failed Emissions on high CO, And I feel like I've replaced everything on the car that could cause this but the PCV
Shows just what is achievable when a vehicle is maintained correctly. Looking forward to the 450,000 and 500,000 videos! Viking of a car! 💪

Yep, that will do it.
My V70 engine is dirty, are Volvo electrical connectors good to withstand an engine degreasing?

Great video. What would be the good range on compression test?

Hi Robert, should you rev the engine with the glove test? If so, should the glove still be sucked vacuum or is it acceptable if it inflates slightly?
I usually rev it if it is boarder line failing to see what it does under higher RPM's. Usually still sucks in at 2500.
Hey, what are your markings on your radiator hoses? Is that a note to when(miles) you last changed the hose?
Nope. Probably marks from a salvage yard.

It would be an absolute miracle, to find a rubber glove here in the UK at the moment, due to this virus shenanigans.
lol try the trash.
