Happy to hear this sea change in ON. I still love the Cloud as a casual shoe, especially for travel, because it doubles as a nice run shoe for short or moderate distances. I even did a fast 5k race in the ON Clouds once.
So happy to hear you're enjoying this one! I've never gotten along well with On shoes but they've sent me this one to try as well, was a little skeptical, but now looking forward to it!!
This looks very promising...I tried a number of the ON Cloud running shoes before and I always wonder why its call On Clound when it feels like you are running on a block of brick !
I've only just stumbled across your channel and I'm really enjoying your output, so I've been randomly watching some of your older videos too. The algorithm has suggested this to me and I was interested to hear your thoughts. I also sought out your Cloudflow review as I've been running in them almost exclusively for the last four years. Funnily enough, my feelings are almost the exact reverse of yours - I love the Cloudflow, particularly for faster stuff, and I found the Cloudstratus to be less enjoyable above easy/steady pace. I may try it out on my tempo run this week and see if it can surprise me.
I have several pairs of ONs, I use the website to see which shoe does what. On the website, it explains what distance each shoe was designed for. From that information, I have selected shoes for those distances. So far, they have been pretty much on par with what the website has stated. Looking forward to the rest of your review.
Just picked up a pair and took it for a 6 mile double. Started out slow at 7:56 pace and was able to knock out some 7:10-6:56 miles to average 7:14 overall. Promising shoe! Wonder how long it will last.
From the beginning, i already know that i am not going to be interested in the shoe. I just want to see you shoe review video. It is always fire Mike! Keep it up! 🔥😂
From my experience with a couple models of on is that you have to break these shoes in. Once the break in phase is over you have a wonderful and comfortable shoe. Enjoy
Cloudboom Echo is the first On shoe to work for me! Best fast trainer of the year for distances beyond 10 miles. Reminiscent of the Brooks Hyperion Tempo with more support and a better rocker.
This is the first time I think I've heard a reviewer mention matching the cushion "response rate" to the runners weight and/or tempo. I think a lot of shoes that people don't like, for one reason or another, aren't a good "match" for the response rate of the midsole they're in. However that's not something measured objectively and published, along with weight and offset. I wonder if it's too difficult, too proprietary, or there's just not a good way to put the measurements to use. Interesting that this ends up being a max cushion shoe for paces faster than easy. Thanks!
I saw Heller's review before this, and she actually liked the shoe quite a lot, said that you could definitely take this shoe up to a marathon, especially if you like a firmer feel...not sure about the pacing of her first run in them though, and it seems like she's more of a heel striker, at.least when running easy...so maybe it's better suited for those who land a little further back
at 57, a lifetime competitive soccer player, I started running last year around this time. I never thought how technical it is! Anyhow, I have the last Cloudstratus and put nearly 200 miles on it. It looks great and I really wanted to love it. I didnt. But I didnt hate it.The NB 1080 v10 is still my preference for easy and recovery runs. Back to ON. I also have a pair of the Cloudultra (trail) and to my surprise, had the same observations as you did ("Jekyll and Hyde" experience) On road running! Thanks for the review. Im thinking of getting the new gen On Cloudstratus. The On running shoes seem to be very prescriptive for gait and biomechanics. I dont know. But I probably need a bit of that.
I've had 5 different pair of ONs and I only use them for tempo or speed runs. I don't enjoy them at slower paces as they're too form for that. I have really enjoyed their shoes over the years.
I have Cloud Flows and I love those running shoes! they are responsive and I can feel the ground, it feels like a better connection to my run and environment. I switched it up with the Kinvara 12 and I like these shoes but they are more cushion and my feet do not breathe at all in them. So for cold run the Kinvaras are awesome on hotter days they are miserable. I am glad to see someone else enjoy ON I like the brand and will find my race shoe in these.
Loved the Cloudventure Peak as a light weight minimalist trail shoe. Doubled as a paddleboard adventure shoe once it was played out too much for running. Cloudventure ends up a bit heavy. Running lots of my snowy winter miles on the CloudUltra's. Also so far the best for not picking up rocks. Toe box could be bigger on the outside and extra sole around the big toe.
6:50 Surprised you could not only feel the channel but also that it was straitjacketing your form. I’ve tried Cloudstratus only at home and the Cloudflow is my go-to running shoe, but almost all On shoes have that channel, however I’ve never felt it at all (across Cloudflow, Cloud, Cloud X, and Cloud Waterproof), as in if there was just solid foam instead of the channel, I don’t feel like it would feel very different.
I still can't believe that you didn't have any of the heel issues that so many of us have had in the Deviate Nitro?!?! I would be in love with that shoe if not for that one issue...
I had issues for the first few runs too. I switched socks and after that the issues vanished. Now I can also use the previous socks and other socks because the material is adapted to my feet I guess. One of my favourite shoes for long runs!
@@Anihalas If I could rectify those issues, I would definitely purchase them again! I had such a bad experience on that first run (and subsequent return), that it's made me a little shy to buy another pair.
I've never tried their road shoes but I was actually quite fond of the Cloudventure Peak for trail racing. Just right amount of cushion but scalpel-like precision when placing feet on descents. I unfortunately tore open some of the clouds on particularly jagged rocks, but they got warrantied, which is nice, and I see the current iteration has more reinforcement there.
I do not find them to be very firm, and I do a lot of my running in my Bondi 7. Maybe the cushioning works better if you are heavier or if you run faster and with more force. I am 200 pounds and I feel good cushioning and spring back.
I've heard from some people I know that the rubber on the On shoes is actually pretty good in winter and that the "clouds" work similar to lugs. I'd be interested to hear your take on the matter when snow starts flying.
Fully agree with your opiniin man... This shoes is not for slow long runs... Speed board is killing those cloud absorbtion and pushing you to run faster with firm responsive feeling... It's not a bad shoe but not for easy&slow&long&comfortible runs 😜
Hi there. I found with the on cloud flyers I have that they are way too form for me. The rest of the shoe is terrific. They seem to be finished so well and look stylish like no others but I won't buy another pair due to the firm ride. Thanks.
excellent review, still not convinced that ON has matured enough for my running/body type (I run at 230 pounds). I ended up buying another pair of Saucony Endorphin Speed 2. I rotate between 2 pairs of endorphin pros and 2 pairs of endorphin speeds. I will however, continue to look for ON running apparel. My On running jacket is my favorite piece of clothing .
I have both. The Glideride 2 is less firm. It has a more pronounced rocker. It has a 5 mm drop vs. the Cloudstratus with the 9 mm drop. The Glideride 2 is wider throughout. Both fit true to size and have excellent uppers. The Cloudstratus has a gusseted tongue, which I love. Both are stable.
Kofuzi I love watching your slow motion videos when you run in mild stability shoes. You don't nearly have as much overpronation with them than in neutral shoes. Do you have less knee pain when you test stability shoes?
So many explanations and twists for a so heavy and expensive shoe, really interesting .. There are so many other lightweight good shoes out there, with much better price .
I’m trying to explain what I experienced. The “twists” are there because the experience wasn’t straight forward. You are reading something into the video that isn’t there
if you need a wide size, I would probably wait to see if a wide version becomes available or perhaps size up. the upper material is flexible, but I would not expect it to stretch to accommodate a wide
Do you think it would change for heavier (meaning 180lb plus) runners? I noticed that some shoes just seem stiff for lighter runners, the same way that a truck suspension may seem rigid on a regular car, because they're meant to be more "compressed" by the weight of the runner. E.g. the Bondi 7 feels stiff to my thinner running buddies but felt really soft for me
Comprei desse modelo, branco e no primeiro uso, mesmo sendo no asfalto e tendo sujado pouco, não conseguir tirar toda a sujeira. Ou seja, vai envelhecer rápido. Prefiro o Nimbus.
ON is the type of brand that a lot of us wished it to become great beyond the looks & hype. All I can say is the folks that I know owning ON shoes, they solely use them for "fashion"
ON seems to me to be one of those brands that's more design, hype, and advertising than actual substance. The lower design seems like it just looks cool, but isn't really bringing anything new, different, or actually good to running. They are just creating buzz words like "cloud tech" for marketing purposes. Even the "Swiss engineering" part is a bit suspect given they make their shoes in Vietnam. I don't know about anyone else but made in Vietnam doesn't make me think Swiss engineering.
Just for a little magic that you have to crank up effort for, I don’t think it’s really worth the money. And understanding that that it’s Swiss, the price is always something that I have to scratch my head to want to really part with when I can get something equivalent or better. Anyway, have not seen any podium wins with the shoe so far. I will give it a pass.
The first ON show that actually lives up to its own hype. Just got done my first run in them and adored everything about them.
I’d say this is pry their best shoe yet next to the $270 Cloud Boom Echo
Happy to hear this sea change in ON. I still love the Cloud as a casual shoe, especially for travel, because it doubles as a nice run shoe for short or moderate distances. I even did a fast 5k race in the ON Clouds once.

Fascinating review, thanks. Such a great dichotomy! I need a long distance shoe and this is now in my consideration!

Man they look cool, would buy just based on looks.

Interesting shoe - but it will have to get way lighter before I'd consider it for long runs. Seems like the Endorphin Speed beats it on all counts!
Nice, t shirt! Where can I get one? Thanks
If Master Chief from Halo had a running shoe, I'm certain this would be it!

Tried them on and simple no heel lock.. Did not buy. Waiting for the Deviate Nitro Elite.
@@i.p2088 same. No heel lock. I tried every way to tighten them down short of duct tape...
Im going to get it tomorrow ill let you know how they feel
The Cloudboom Echo with its carbon Speedboard would be an interesting shoe battle.
Nice looking shoe I plan on buying a pair when they come out
Aren't they out already?
Thanks! Interesting video! 😊👍🏻

You get stones stuck in the mid track and weighed down by the volume they take on in the clouds- wouldn't rec in the winter
Fully agree with your opiniin man... This shoes is not for slow long runs... Speed board is killing those cloud absorbtion and pushing you to run faster with firm responsive feeling... It's not a bad shoe but not for easy&slow&long&comfortible runs 😜
I’m doing a solo 50K in march and I’m doing it in the oncloud stratus
very cool!
I have found with the shoes that they match my stride and cadence dead on and my legs and feet don’t feel beat up

Oh man this shoe looks like an Asics Nova Blast 2 half brother ! Compare them both, please !
As someone who uses a Novablast 2 this Cloudstratus is definitely more firm, but not in a bad way.
Does it make a sound 😱
I always found ON to fit a little long. TTS or down half a size?
True to size, as with most of their shoes, excluding the Cloud.
I would love to see this compared to the asics glideride 2
I have both. The Glideride 2 is less firm. It has a more pronounced rocker. It has a 5 mm drop vs. the Cloudstratus with the 9 mm drop. The Glideride 2 is wider throughout. Both fit true to size and have excellent uppers. The Cloudstratus has a gusseted tongue, which I love. Both are stable.
Wait, Are you saying you're running on the Bondai X now ? =)
can you try their new super shoe? the cloudboom echo.
Would you say these are versatile for a beginner? Found these on sale and just want something I can use every day while I build up to my first half
Yes
Is this a good model for wide feetsies?
Hm...finally see your review for this brand and i also just know bout it a month back when surveying for some shoe.
Kofuzi I love watching your slow motion videos when you run in mild stability shoes. You don't nearly have as much overpronation with them than in neutral shoes. Do you have less knee pain when you test stability shoes?
I think he actually said he gets knee pain from stability shoes. The “slight stability” in most Saucony shoes he thinks hurt his knee last summer
@@christiangroendyk7198 oh yeah I remember him saying that about the Saucony shoes.
This looks interesting
it's weird. it's different. but it works.
Do you think the ON Cloudboom Echo has some potential? It's made to be a marathon racing shoe, but the price is kind of crazy.
The price is crazy. Compare it to other carbon infused race shoes (it only has 15% carbon in it)?
Do the gaps in the sole of the on shoes not fill up with pebbles etc as you travel on the roads and trails??
They really don’t, unless you’re a heel striker you may catch some here and there…
So many explanations and twists for a so heavy and expensive shoe, really interesting .. There are so many other lightweight good shoes out there, with much better price .
I’m trying to explain what I experienced. The “twists” are there because the experience wasn’t straight forward. You are reading something into the video that isn’t there
Thanks for admitting your On bias. 😉
ชอบ มากค่ะ 🥰😍
Gr8 vid fugly shoes
Is it suitable for wider feet, to be honest? Since it is not tagged with 2E/Wide. Is it quite stretchable on its upper?
if you need a wide size, I would probably wait to see if a wide version becomes available or perhaps size up. the upper material is flexible, but I would not expect it to stretch to accommodate a wide
I have the Cloudflyer and Cloudace. Both not for running because they are just strange...
oh wtf!! I asked you to do this review yesterday but you done it 2 months ago!
I hope it's what you were looking for

TL;DR: This is a more expensive Boston 10.
these uppers really borrow a ton from the adidas zx line

You have the negatives under Dr. Jekyll and positives under Hyde which is the doctor's dark side.
It’s not the last time I will masquerade a mistake as literary liberties
I think Running ON Cloud will fit more to the UltraBOOST or Nike ZoomX! lol
I don't understand this comment

yo!
Moral of the review is, On Running not work for me
Shoe design is more of a gimmick?
They make some of the worst shoes I’ve ever ran in. Stress Fractured my right foot from running in them
Really feels like you’re running on bricks….
Cloud bullshit is the largest marketing scam out, literally worst shoes in terms of cushion...
First ?
yo!
Worst shoe I ever run. Clouds are just a gimmick and you always have small stones between.
