I’ve been struggling for months with this! I can’t believe all I had to do was check youngnails as alwayssss, you guys help with absolutely everything lol 😍
Literally everytime I have a problem on my nails I come on UA-cam and YoungNails saves me by suggesting the right videos at the right time! Thanks again for the help! I fixed my top coat with NO BUBBLING and other nonsense
OMG thank you so much. I was noticing my gel wasnt laying nicely. I was taught in school to buff the nail before putting gel polish on. I cannot roll my eyes enough that a UA-cam video taught me better then my schooling did.
I LITERALLY JUST HAD THIS PROBLEM TONIGHT!!!! And I’ve been having it for a while now, and could not figure out why. I thought maybe it was my polishes!! thank you so much for this
Brilliant advice....as always. I Never watch a video of yours without learning something new that I can use immediately. Thank you! Oh yes...#number2 😁
Awesome tip, thank you I had this happen to me the last set I did on myself and I thought it was my lamp or I had some kind of oil residue on my nail. It was driving me crazy.👍👍👍👍
I had this happen with a favourite gel polish, today. The base was a gel overlay with matte topcoat. Too smooth I guess. I won’t forget the Protein Bond, either! That product is magic!
Got it girls? It’s official, young nails sanction a bit of ‘rough’ every now and then! I guess nails are like men, too smooth and they get slippery and nothing sticks to them! 🤪 seriously though, great tips well presented thank you x
Thank you sooo much! All the way from the colors to my top were puddling I didn’t know what to do, I was so disappointed and thinking I had bought products that were too cheap lol
Thank you SO much for this video. I've been looking everywhere for a fix for this. In Nail school they keep telling me the polish is bad if this happens.... AND to buff the nail before polish/topcoat application. I have an additional question about this occurring: sometimes I find this happens when I apply top coat over gel polish, where this video only covers polish application over an enhancement. Should I be roughing up the polish, adding Protein Bond and then top coating? this seems like it would be very tedious. Again, thank you SO much for all your amazing content!
The main reasons why top coat would pull away from gel polish (over an enhancement or a gel manicure), would be if the gel polish doesn't have a tacky finish or if the tacky finish has been wiped off. The top coat won't stick to a smooth or shiny surface. You want to make sure you don't wipe the tacky surface off before applying top coat. If you do wipe it, you may need to lightly buff the nail to remove the shine and then apply Protein Bond.
Nice tips! I don’t work with acrylic but my co workers who do have these issues. I find that gel slicks very well to gel builder even if it’s buffed but I do have these pulling issues with gel polish, could I add protein bond after a base layer for gel polish to fix this issue??
I have experienced this same exact thing but in a different way. By that I mean, just before i apply gel polish or top coat etc..my clients would either touch their hair or use their hand to prop their chin or somehow make contact with their skin etc. Amd the gels would pull and puddle. So i assumed its oils from the hair or skin getting on the surface of the nails. This would happen after I cleanse the nails with alcohol. I dont know if after that step they get bored and want to touch everything lol.
Great tips. But what can you do when you make chrome nails? Then you can’t buff it because the chrome powder is buffed on top of the topcoat... and then it’s so smooth and the topcoat slides off
Stine Kirkeby Chrome nails should still work because don't you rub the chrome powder in to a top coat? The top coat will stick to the rougher enhancement but finish glass smooth so it shouldn't be a problem.
I make press on nails and when I’m done with all my art it seems they have shrunk and no longer fit. Is this due to gel polish shrinking or the gel tip that I use shrinking in the lamp? I hope my question makes sense. I’m desperate to fix this issue before I launch in a few months.
I am ha big trouble with my top coat doing the puddling this this videos example. My color coats don’t have that problem. It’s only the top coat, I use kiara sky everything so I don’t k ow why the top coat isn’t sitting well with the color coats. Could you help me?
Ether try a thicker amount, (it needs to be a little thicker application.) Or try buffing the surface a bit then adding protein bond prior to application
Thank you for this!! I don’t think I’ve encountered this yet but I’m curious...what is the difference between protein bond and base gel?? I see both of them used at the same time and then sometimes only protein bond and then gel polish or paint right after. Can both be used In the same application or better WHEN do you use both as opposed to only 1 of them?
Protein bond is like your primer. It stays sticky so it sticks to the natural nail and then also sticks to the product. Base gel is your foundation layer. There are some instance when we don't use base gel. When we use our one step gel polish, you don't need base or top. When we are putting gel polish over an enhancement, like acrylic, you don't need base but we use protein bond to help prevent the gel polish or top coat from chipping, lifting or peeling.
Yes, even with a natural nail, you want to make sure the surface isn't too smooth as the product will pull away. We recommend prepping your natural nails with the medium arbor band to remove the shine, cleanse with Swipe and apply Protein Bond for the best adhesion.
Eeekkk so this explains that... now hopefully mine will stay put also. I was beginning to think my protein bond was bad. Any tips on getting tips to stay put? Thanks for the great info and always looking forward to the next video...
Tracey Reierson Yes ma'am glued on tips. I've had a major problem getting them to stay stuck, tried more glue, less glue, tube glue, brush on glue, I don't mow what else to do.
Tracey Reierson once I glue them trim, them to size, I file into shape, that's where they just pop right back off. I always make sure to apply pressure to the tip so the filing isn't stressful on the artificial tip causing it to pop off.
If it's happening on gel polish, most likely it's because the gel polish you are using doesn't have a tacky finish or it has been wiped off. If either of these are what's happening, you would need to go back and gently remove the shine, apply Protein Bond & then apply top coat.
Pulling or puddling is usually caused by not applying enough product or if the surface is too smooth. Make sure you are not wiping the tacky surface from your color before applying the top coat. Here's a video that may help a little more! ua-cam.com/video/s6z1G1VbBls/v-deo.html
I make press on nails on a display and I have an issue with the nail becoming small at the end and not fitting right anymore. I wanted to know if I could file the clear press on nail, then add protein bond, skip base gel polish and go straight to a colored polish, cure and bam I’m done…, or should I file the clear press on nail, add protein bond, and always add a base gel no matter what, and then add colored gel polish? I feel the more layers of gel I apply might be causing the nail to not fit the same and fit smaller once the designs are completely done and ready to be worn.😞
Having the same problem, How did you solve this issue? the nail sometimes becomes too tight and doesn't fit well. Really troblesome experience for the customer😔
Why doesn’t protein bond come in bigger bottles? I’ve been using Light Elegance Tack because it comes in big bottles but I like YN better. Can i put multiple bottles in one if you don’t plan to make them bigger?
The formula actually does not hold the same when produced on larger scale. The quality changes and we would never want to compromise such a great product so we keep it in the size it is. It's been tested.
YoungNailsInc ahhh gotcha. I thought it may have something to do with that. And if I have your attention still, quality & acrygel, yay or nah? That seem like a compromised formula like unscented acrylic. It just doesn’t feel right to me and YN doesn’t have it which leads me to believe that because I know you guys are all about keeping the integrity of your product. Good product or is the chemistry not all there? Thanks!
This has only happened with top coat for me once with ricca gel and now most recently with kiara sky...I've never had this issue with mani Q, one step, kokoist etc...I've tried EVERYTHING and unfortunately this did not work either...my only other conclusion is that I need to buy and use Kiara sky top coat 🤷🏾...SUPER FRUSTRATED THOU
Ok so what if I add gel nail art after file and buff and it still does puddling , I can’t go back and file again and take nail art off? Or what am I doing it wrong ??
Before you do you design, make sure that you are only filing with a 150 grit file, not buffing. When you buff, this smooths out the surface too much and the gel can bleed or puddle. After filing, cleanse with Swipe and apply a coat of Protein Bond. If you are following these steps and are still getting puddling or your product is moving, you may have to freeze each nail after applying your gel so it doesn't move.
An 80/80 grit file or buffer is very coarse. The only time we would recommend using something this abrasive would be if you are hand filing off an MMA product.
In order to keep your product from puddling or pulling away, make sure that you file the nail surface with nothing finer than a 150 grit file. Do not use a buffer as this will make it too smooth. After filing, cleanse with Swipe and apply one coat of Protein Bond. Then you can apply your color. If you are working with the full coverage tips, the same still applies. You want to make sure you remove the shine from the surface with a 150 grit file or a medium arbor band. Dust off the nail but do not use Swipe to cleanse the nail as this can smooth the plastic out again. Apply Protein Bond and then your color.
That's what that's called! Puddling! I've always wondered why my gel paints would do that. I just assumed I had cheap gel paints. Thanks very much!
omg same!
You guys literally cover all the issues like no other! I get so many tips and tricks from y'all! Thank you!!

Thanks definitely going to use this tip.
I love protein bond but I've for sure experienced pulling and shrinkage. I'd have never guessed it was a product of the smooth surface.
Thanks this was great help!
Awesome tip!
Great tip. I’d always flash cure so the gel wouldn’t move. ;)
Brilliant!

Oi!!🙈😭 Wish I had seen this tutorial earlier....literally my gel polish from earlier today is puckered 🤦♀️ Thanks for the tips guys!!!
Glad we could help!

Can we get a video on how to apply nail polish and dry it / know when it’s dry ?
What grit file did you use. Great video
Wow thats cool👍👍tip.

Hello, which brush did Greg use to apply the gel paint?
I make press on nails and when I’m done with all my art it seems they have shrunk and no longer fit. Is this due to gel polish shrinking or the gel tip that I use shrinking in the lamp? I hope my question makes sense. I’m desperate to fix this issue before I launch in a few months.

I havent had any luck with her stuff try their stuff you'll be in love it's a million times better quality 😍
I dont have protein bond. What can I use.
I get the pulling when i use yn stain resistant top coat ontop of color gel
Ether try a thicker amount, (it needs to be a little thicker application.) Or try buffing the surface a bit then adding protein bond prior to application
What tips do you have to prevent shrinking when doing gel polish on a natural nail?
Make sure you are preping the nail properly
And cleaning off all dust and oils
Also you can put a little Protein Bond on the very tip of the nail.
Thanks!!!👊🏾✍🏽✍🏽

Hi, do you mean glued on tips?
Tracey Reierson Yes ma'am glued on tips. I've had a major problem getting them to stay stuck, tried more glue, less glue, tube glue, brush on glue, I don't mow what else to do.
Mcdi2003 don’t worry we will figure it out. Is this immediately or after awhile?
Tracey Reierson once I glue them trim, them to size, I file into shape, that's where they just pop right back off. I always make sure to apply pressure to the tip so the filing isn't stressful on the artificial tip causing it to pop off.

Pulling or puddling is usually caused by not applying enough product or if the surface is too smooth. Make sure you are not wiping the tacky surface from your color before applying the top coat. Here's a video that may help a little more! ua-cam.com/video/s6z1G1VbBls/v-deo.html
Please be careful with Swipe. I used it three times and the skin around my nails has never been the same. Great tutorial as always though!
I make press on nails on a display and I have an issue with the nail becoming small at the end and not fitting right anymore.

We like to remove shine from the full cover tips because gel adheres better to a textured surface.
Having the same problem, How did you solve this issue? the nail sometimes becomes too tight and doesn't fit well.
Really troblesome experience for the customer😔
How do you prevent gel top coat form pooling on chrome power finishes?
Depends what top coat you are using not all top coats can be applied to a smooth non tacky surface. Gloss works great over chromes

I know this happened but didn't know the term especially for the chrome
What would you do on a natural nail?
I forgot to add that you were about gel polish just to clarify.
Hi, use a medium grit buffer and cleanse the nail with swipe. I like to apply Protein Bond on the very tip of the nail and then go into your Base.
What if it’s on natural nails? What file should be used to prevent pitting of the base and gel color
What grit file are you using to remove shine from the natural nails?
What are you using to cleanse the natural nail?
Ok so what if I add gel nail art after file and buff and it still does puddling , I can’t go back and file again and take nail art off? Or what am I doing it wrong ??
Before you do you design, make sure that you are only filing with a 150 grit file, not buffing. When you buff, this smooths out the surface too much and the gel can bleed or puddle. After filing, cleanse with Swipe and apply a coat of Protein Bond. If you are following these steps and are still getting puddling or your product is moving, you may have to freeze each nail after applying your gel so it doesn't move.
What if the buffer is a 80 80 grit?
An 80/80 grit file or buffer is very coarse. The only time we would recommend using something this abrasive would be if you are hand filing off an MMA product.
I still need a better explanation. Exactly what do I do? Does this work for full cover tips as well?
