  • This is how I've modded a cheap consumer TV into an RGB arcade monitor for use with Mister FPGA
    I've used a generic arcade chassis as I've had a number of problems getting the RGB muxmod method to work for me.

    I would love for you to do this to another tv and film the whole thing so we can see how it's done.

    I am in the UK and recently managed to find a new and boxed 4:3 28 inch crt from 2004, which is quite unusual these days not just that it is new but more so that it is a larger size tv that was not widescreen, towards that end of the 90's most of the larger sets all became 16:9. Within saying this it's a very low budget brand, Matsui 28N20-02, and as such it's service menu is very limited and although I have got the geometry to the best standard I can I feel the middle of the screen could benefit from a bow setting which this set doesn't have. Due to it's size it's a great substitution for a arcade cab so my question if I swap out the chassis will I find that it would have a better amount of options for the geometry and would it have a degaussing coil in a arcade chassis or would I be building that myself?

      Swapping the chassis for the generic arcade chassis I used should work for you and will give you all the standard geometry controls a normal arcade monitor has, the chassis I have does not include a degauss circuit so you will need to DIY that or use a degaussing coil/wand

    Hi. May I ask you for a help? I've got a 29' Philips tube from a Loewe TV model A68ESF002X11 and I'am planning to do the same. Do you believe it can work with some generic chassis like that? Thanks a lot in advance =)

      yes it looks like this tube is compatible. They offer the Generic Chassis in 2 versions, make sure you get the larger version meant for 25-29 inch tubes. Assuming this is for US consumer TV's only? Pretty sure most EU TV's had a SCART which had RGB.

    • @CraigKergald
      @CraigKergald  10 місяців тому

      There is nothing that would make this incompatible with a European CRT tube but like you say they mostly already have SCART and this is not really needed, also I'm not sure if the power is auto switching 110/220v or if a step down transformer would be needed.

    Very cool.
    Do the cores on the MiSTer expect a 31 kHz signal or 15 kHz? If 31 kHz, how did you get them to display on a 15 kHz TV? Thanks.

    • @CraigKergald
      @CraigKergald  Рік тому +2

      this is largely dependent on the individual core and the settings in your mister.ini file, most (all) game console cores will support 15 Khz natively. I believe a few computer cores expect 31 Khz on the monitor (not 100% certain on that). I use the analog IO board on my mister to get this output, the connector is a VGA style connector but the signal coming out can be 15 or 31 khz depending on how you have configured your ini file.

      @@CraigKergald hi, so just wondering can CRT tubes in general be run at 15/25/31khz depending on the board its hooked up to and the flyback ect? Are there no limitations on the tube itself if was intended for use in a 15khz TV?

  • @emmettturner9452
    @emmettturner9452 10 місяців тому

    Adjustments? Surely it can’t work with any tube without adjustments.

    • @CraigKergald
      @CraigKergald  10 місяців тому +1

      Not any tube but many/most and there are several adjustments just like any other arcade CRT chassis. There are 2 sets of yoke connectors that will work with nearly all tubes. Sony Trinitron tubes have a weird dual focus flyback type thing that this will not work with those tubes

      @@CraigKergald Thanks! Sounds a lot like the TV board Adrian’s Digital Basement bought and demonstrated though his had a tuner and no RGB, IIRC.

      Thanks I wasn't familiar with his channel but it looks like he has some great content. Yes this is very similar to what he has done but is an arcade monitor looking for RGB + sync input instead of composite/RF. And being an arcade monitor there is no power button they are just always on when powered up. He mentions his board was released in 2023 I'm not sure if this is just an assumption on his part or not but I know I've used these generic arcade chassis boards for about the last 10 years on various projects.

    • @CraigKergald
      @CraigKergald  10 місяців тому +1

      this arcade chassis still runs at 15 Khz, it is just a cheap way to convert a consumer TV CRT tube into an arcade monitor accepting an RGB + sync signal
