    Loved the vid! Looks like you went in the coldest months, December maybe? Do you prefer a particular style of free diving wetsuit? And for the winter months do you like 3,5,7mm thickness?

    • @WildCaughtOutdoors
      @WildCaughtOutdoors  3 роки тому +1

      I appreciate that! Yup, this was if I remember correctly end of November before the rainfall started coming in. I love my Yazbeck wetsuits. A 5MM suit will keep you relatively warm off the coast (what I’m wearing in this video) but a 7mm is key if you want to dive the islands in the winter. Hope that helps!

    • @WildCaughtOutdoors
      @WildCaughtOutdoors  3 роки тому +1

      There are two places in Malibu that you can cook on the beach, Thornhill broome but you have to pay for camping and sycamore cove where you can pay for a day spot. Hope that helps

    Love this vid! Eager to get out there, especially in light of the chaos from this year haha. I know that water gets damn cold during lobster season months... you typically roll with 5mm?

    • @WildCaughtOutdoors
      @WildCaughtOutdoors  3 роки тому +1

      Me too!! Waiting for this hurricane swell to pass through and I’ll be out there. My suit is a 5mm Yazbeck dive suit (with a ton of holes). You can get away with a 4/3mm surf suit too but you’ll be a little colder. When I first started diving I used a really worn 4/3 AND a really worn 3/2 over each other 😂

    What mask/snorkel/fin set would you recommend for beginners? This video is absolutely awesome by the way 👍

    • @WildCaughtOutdoors
      @WildCaughtOutdoors  4 роки тому +3

      So when I first started to get into spearfishing and freediving, I used cheap gear. When you are first starting out this is all you need anyway. Long plastic swim fins (don't get the short ones), a good wetsuit, and maybe a mask set (although maybe splurge a little more on the mask so it doesn't leak). This will help you build up the skills/confidence in the shallows, and when you start to push out to deeper water, then it would be wise to invest more money into dive suits, better mask snorkels, and a good set of fins. Thinking of making a beginners video to freediving soon. Let me know if you have anymore questions, hope this helps you get started!

      Fish N Dive SoCal the diving is filmed on the Go Pro 6, I would switch between a hand mount and a stationary mount built with a weight that would sit on the bottom. The cooking is filmed with a Canon EOS T5 and the same GoPro 🤙 if you’re ever in my neck of the woods, lets fish

    Just got back from malibu. Spearfished from leo Carrillo to el matador. Whats a good spot in malibu didnt get much luck

    • @WildCaughtOutdoors
      @WildCaughtOutdoors  3 роки тому

      Leo Carrillo is pretty overfished, it’s close to PCH so easy access for a lot of people. Surprised you didn’t have much luck at El Matador. I think since lobster season just opened there’s been a TON of divers heading out and the fish scattered to deeper water. Once we start getting deeper into winter, they’ll move back on the reefs. Happy spearing hope that helps 🤙

    • @chrisandrade3929
      @chrisandrade3929 3 роки тому

      There was some surge and the water was still a little silty. My friend lives just north of el matador saw some sheephead and a white see bass. We were going to go to pt dume but then figured out it is a smr mpa

      I saw a WSB diving too when I went for bugs last week (stay tuned for a new episode soon). Surprised they are still around this into fall. I would just keep checking out new spots. • @jeffreymeinecke8674
      @jeffreymeinecke8674 3 роки тому

      Oh yeah man, I’ve scoped all your videos, they’re sick. My biggest problem so far has been trying to find the right time to go for good water clarity. Do Certain tides make for better hunting or is it all spot dependent?

    • @WildCaughtOutdoors
      @WildCaughtOutdoors  3 роки тому +1

      It’s a bit tricky, and Mother Nature always has the final say. Best way to start is by understanding what’s going on in your local area, wind tide waves weather. What you want is a long duration of the least amount of water movement possible going on. That way sediment has a better chance to settle down. Usually waves and wind cause the most havoc, but big tide changes can as well. Offshore winds create epic conditions though. Hope that helps

      @@WildCaughtOutdoors Thanks for the compliment! Well I would say the best tip I could give you is - don't go crabbing in socal! but if you do, 2nd best tip would be to target the yellow rock crab (prob the most common) found on the sand by structure. I think Santa Monica should have them, and possibly Torrance Beach. I think in Malibu, you can get sheep crab, but you'd have better luck with your eyes than a crab net. I'll def keep you in mind during my next visit!
