Late seventies, early eighties I saw those Ford Capri Belga & BBL, BMW Luigi, Chevy Camaro Bastos and so many Volvo, VW Sirocco, etc at the 24hrs of Spa-Francorchamps. Those cars were so fun to drive and to watch. At the time racing drivers knew how well to handle a manual gear box.
Superb drive by Jake Hill 👏 The whole field was full of great racing action and great to see these cars out on track being superbly driven hard, Wonderful Racing 🎉
Took them over 30 seconds to red-flag the race after the Golf spill and 5 seconds after the Camaro crash. There was no reason to red-flag on the last lap other than to disadvantage the rightful winner who kept his car on the track. The Mustang should have won.
Actually, the immediately obvious barrier damage after the Camaro incident meant the field needed to be slowed before they reached Woodcote. Both reds were thrown as soon after race control saw the incidents.
@@TheValKBawz Driver safety. Until he was out of the Camaro and obviously unharmed, the only sensible flag was red - to enable the firies/medics to get there ASAP without getting grief from race cars. A yellow would have been OK if the Camaro had just hit the barrier and stopped upright. It was clear of the track and not an obstruction to race cars.
Wonderful race, thanks for posting these. Just one request though @Goodwood Road & Racing; would it be possible to show a 10 second shot of the classified results at the end?
Agreed. And looking at the hand signals when he was in the pits (5:10) it looked to me like someone had forgotten to replace the dipstick. If so I wonder if they're still sat on the naughty step 😂
Ooh man i love this proper racing. Nothing beats it. Superb drivers, real old school race cars. So much fun to watch. Goodwood festival is on my list. 👌❤️
@@mick8473 I am dreading the next step as manufacturers are getting rid of hatchbacks for SUV's and the teams have less choice of saloon or hatchbacks to choose from and will be forced to race SUV's. It will become the BTSC (British Touring SUV Championship) if it happens.
@@bentullett6068 To be fair the mid SUVs are closer to Touring cars than when the hatchbacks like Vauxhall Astra came in. Although the newer Honda Civics are now back to Touring saloon style. I think I last watched when Jason Plato won in an Astra.
I agree. I’ve never seen a race red-flagged so quickly and what’s the point of red-flagging the race when there are 20 cars bearing down on the finish line? Deeply suspicious
I don't think there's anything suspicious at play and I think it's better to assume incompetence or a simple mistake over malace and something going on behind closed doors. I think the logic the race directors were going with was the golf's incident and the Camaro's incident were virtually identical. And if they gave a red flag for the Golf's crash then by the same standards they had to red flag the Camaro's crash as well. I think they were also concerned how well drivers would stick to just waved yellows compared to a red and if another car went off and hit the Camaro it would have been very VERY ugly.
It's standard for them to Red flag a race with cars on track as the field is neutralised. And they routinely use a count back if a race is in the last few laps. They look who was 1st on the last lap and they win.
That was crazy how fast that Camaro flipped on to it's roof! They did the Mustang/Huff wrong with that call, the official at the entrance to the chicane was still holding out a Green flag after the crash...🤔 But I don't have an official rule book either.😏
You can't have a green flag after a red. All cars must immediately stop racing and return to somewhere specified. However, if the organisers want to declare the places at some earlier point, like the end of the previous lap, that's the only way that the race could be deemed to have finished.
This track is just straight, I don't even know how it lasted so long, this problem initially seemed like a problem with the wheel or front brake, congratulations to the driver!!!!!!
so had the car that went off just before the finish line causing the red flag been in front by a nose the lap prior he would have won the race even though he caused the crash that made the red flag come out? and he was the only car not able to cross the finish line?? pull the other one! call that fair!
Isn’t it great to see all these different sizes different shapes racing, Volvo, GLT racing a Camaro with a mark one Fiesta and a mark one VW sirocco in front of them, just dreamy😢
Yes Stuffed an Alan key in the dipstick hole. Essex engines have a habit of leaking out the dipstick so they remove it and put a bung in. The bung fell out and a very conveniently sized Alan key fit the hole.
I enjoyed that race so much up in till the last lap. The top two caused the crash so the race should had finished under the chequered flag. Totally unfair on the actually winner who was robbed. Ruined the race for me shame.
Oh Jack...
I feel bad for Jack
Wow, how I love historic racing! This is a million times better than racing modern cars.
Yes!! More Sound better drift and the cars Look 100 Time better than today!!
Damn, if only modern motorsport was this exciting...
Superb racing. How it should be. These classics being driven at the limit. Proper stuff. Gordon Spice would be proud.
Seeing these cars racing instead of being stored in a garage is so cool!
Man, what pure bliss! THIS is what makes people fans of racing! Those engine sounds! The down shifting, the handling, superb all around!
Thank you!
That was the absolute best finish ever from a race that had action from the beginning
Um, didn't finish - red flagged.
Worst finish* but great up until the last 5 meters of the race

Amazing race. Hill's onboard, after he came back on track, should be a video of its own. That would be a wild ride.

Show this on a pub TV just before an F1 race. People will be glued to the screen, getting involved, then wander off 10 mins after the F1 race starts.
Well that was spicy! Thank you Goodwood for making this available.

daffodils and all.....
what's the point of a red flag when everyone is on the last lap??
Should have given the checkered flag, not the red.
This is motor racing!!! From Cape Town South Africa...the days of the Ford Capri 🥰
Don’t understand why the lending capri wasn’t called in sooner!
His smokescreen tactic didn't work ultimately but you have to applaud him for giving it a go 👍
That capri was really living up to its Gitanes livery
From a time in pass where there cars looks 100 times better than today! Much more genial sound and more Action on track!!
OK so who left the dipstick out of the Capri?
Well, that was superb!
So, who won? The video sort of ended quite abruptly?
Oh the gymnastic duo…YES PLEASE
Minis are just incredible racing cars, the total volume of the Mini seems less than the engine capacity of the V8s🤡

the round rubbery ones....
Every car in the race uses the same tyres. They're classic Dunlop racing tyres.

Right down to the wire 😂
Hilarious the Z28's got all those cubic inches and bald eagles and freedom and can't put 10 seconds between them and a mini or Ford fiesta 😂
