I'm starting Yr13 tomorrow and I have mocks at the end of the month. Because of Covid19, of course most of my time at home was spent doing Coursework and other work, not just for English Language. This video (and the one on Paper 1) has really helped me get to grips with the exam so that I can put my all into the mocks in case if my A-Levels get cancelled next year. Then at the very least I'll have done a great job and put that extra effort into something that I can be confident I can get a good grade in.

@@ulfatsultana8503 Sorry in advance about the long message. I would create flashcards (link below) of english language terms and revise those everyday which will help you. Then it'll be applying that knowledge to papers etc. Talking with others to form a stronger knowledge will also help. I would also create a few mind maps focusing on child theorists, language change theorists, gender theorists, and social class/groups theorists e.g., Bernstein with the elaborate and restricted code. To help you with this I would sign up for Quizlet as it is free and if you type in gender theorists then you can copy and paste the information to powerpoint and then print it off and stick to a large piece of wallpaper which is what I did. Also put distractions aside for the short term whilst revising as it may be annoying at first but you'll find yourself getting better at revision. You also probably know more than you think which is what in my case and I'm sure that if you just apply yourself you'll definitely get a B. Another tip would be for Paper 1 Section A don't worry about theorists and say the language techniques involved for example word class, sentences, verb, tense and every time mention what effect his has on the reader and go into deeper analysis. For Paper 1 Section B Question 4 I would Vygotsky and the zone of proximal development and the MKO, Halliday and the seven functions of language, Chomsky and his theory about language development occurring innately. For Question 5, this will focus on a child's wriitng and will give you an extract which you will need to analyse. For this mention spelling mistakes, overextension, the prupose of the extract (is it a thank you letter or maybe a shopping list [it's been these before]). For theorists mention Kroll, Rothery, Gentry, Britton. You only need a few and keep referring them back to the question and give quotes from the extract to back up your data. Honestly nobody cares about what A Levels you did once you get to uni! As long as the subject you want to study doesn’t have any required A Levels just take what you want (so if you wanted to be a doctor... maybe take biology, but beyond that it doesn’t really matter!) I did media, politics, English language and drama, and then I dropped drama eventually just because I didn’t enjoy it. It was good to have the option to drop a subject though rather than only taking 3 and having to see all 3 through until the end. Oh, and employers also don’t care about A Levels - they just want to know what degree you have and whether you got a 2:1 or higher... Work experience is way more important than grades!
