Your body isn't the same day to day either. Or even morning to night. Enough to notice if you're having issues or fit right up to your limit of function.
Bike fitting is a complex multi-parametric process with considerable parameter uncertainties. This means that there will be many equally valid optimal 'solutions' for the fit. [Beven, K. J., et al. "The use of generalised likelihood measures for uncertainty estimation in high order models of environmental systems." Nonlinear and nonstationary signal processing 115 (2000): 151.]
No thats completely wrong analogy. If you went to a 5 different doctors and got 5 different opinions you'd be confused and worried. So each bike fitter has their own bias that in itself is a concern.
@@Pedal_of_Attrition no, sorry. But check the IBFI website to see if there are any accredited Bike Fitters near you. That’s always a good place to start 👍
All this makes sense. My gripe with bike fitting is why do some you charge £300+? It's mostly the guys prominent on UA-cam. I'm aware some fitters charge much less and everyone doesn't need a bike fit. I just can't wrap my head around anyone setting a £300+ fee. Bruh!
@@blazwecycling it’s just a question of value. Some people would pay a hell of a lot more than £300 if they had a pain/injury that was ruining the enjoyment of their hobby, or stopping them from riding with their mates. I won’t even start breaking down what goes into a Bike Fit. If I did, you’d soon see that £300 doesn’t go very far when we’re providing the service we provide, and running a small business! Maybe that’s a topic for another video? 🤔
@UKBikeFit 100% agree with you. I think some - perhaps many - people who criticise the cost of services provided by small businesses forget that the provider is a small business. You're not just charging £100 an hour for a 3hr fit (using the £300 example) to put in your pocket. You're trying to cover rent and outgoings for the shop, equipment, software subscriptions, websites and hosting, furnishings, potentially staff costs for those that don't charge their own fee and a multitude of miscellaneous costs. And then you pay tax. Ideally, stock of saddles, stems, shoes, etc pays for itself and generates profit over time, but initially, and occasionally for large restock orders in the future, all that money comes out of your own pocket.
@@UKBikeFit I understand most bike fitters are small businesses, and it’s fair to set their prices for their expertise-customers are free to choose to pay for it. I realise not all businesses need to cater to every customer. I’m also aware of what happens during a fitting session and it varies between fitters. I’ve had a few sessions myself. When I was new to cycling, I bought an £850 bike. I came to UA-cam for advice, as most would do, and it was the £300+ fitters saying the most. (I'm not mad. It's marketing. That's the game). Asking for 35% of my bike’s value felt wild. I’ll likely delete this later, as I don’t want to seem like I’m attacking you. It's just thoughts I have. I feel that some fitters make cycling seem overly complex (not you) and expensive.
@@jasonhurst2491I get this man. Business expenses differ and every service is free to set its charges. I'm trying to reconcile how another business 33 minutes away, offers a similar service for half the price 🤷🏿♂️
Well said Dan, you guys and gals get to much criticism in my opinion, if you help a cyclist get toward their goals in the fit and avoid injury from a bad position I take it as a win. Hell from day to day I’m more or less flexiable, and I would imagine that could slightly alter the best position for me for that day.
Ok, so the argument is, bike fitting is non scientific because its results are inconsistent. And to that you say that it is supposed to be inconsistent because it is supposed to be a divine providence of each bike fitter and that "everyone is different"... OK. You could really put horoscopes or homeopathy in stead of bike fitting - the argument would not change.
No, the results should be consistent. I.e the customer gets the outcome they are after (symptom relief, efficiency increase, etc). The method in which those results are achieved can vary 👍
@@UKBikeFit Semantics. By result I mean the result of a bike fitters fitting session - i.e. a customer may get a longer or a shorter reach as a result. In both cases fitters would argue that will be the solution to all of the customer's problems. Same as the customers of an astrologist or a acupuncturist - naive people are happy with the placebo they are being sold.
@@Hard_Work_Is_Rewardingbut that’s the point that the video is making 😅🙈 Why are you judging the outcome of the Bike Fit on the bike measurements? The outcome of the Bike Fit should be judged on whether that individual has achieved the outcome they wanted. Would you judge a plumber on the type of piping they used, or would you judge them based on whether your leak is fixed or not? 🤷♂️

plus bike fit is a range...data numbers maybe different but all fall within the range
Love this. I'd be keen to compare coffee offerings at each bike fitter ;)
