I was a young teenager when I first heard this track at a warehouse party.... would've been 1991 in Toronto, Canada. Paid $5 for entry and got a couple beers. I remember being overwhelmed by the emotion that was unleashed by the crowd when this track dropped. Must've been played at least 4 times that night and every-friggin'-time it dropped.... the dance circles broke out... baby powder on the floors and the slides and moves..... sigh. Best times of my life. Frankie Knuckles..... legend.

To this groove, I seemed to float just slightly above the dance floor. Landing when I needed to pound the floor with my soul. It was one of those esoteric and spiritual vibes when you feel connected to everybody on the dance floor. I loved it.
A massive thank you to my college roommate Rodney for introducing me to House music back in ‘86. Although at the time it was 100% New York Hip Hop for me. I recall many S. Fla days rushing back to the dorm after class to be first at monopolizing the cassette player. Rodney hated Hip Hop and I simply couldn’t wrap my head around the monotony and noise of what he called Jackin’ House Music he coveted from the shoe boxes of WGCI cassettes he brought from his hometown of Chicago. As I began frequenting S. Fla clubs I’d hear variations of the sounds Rodney played religiously and found myself experiencing aural pleasure from the slower BPM, more melodic composition-like House which I learned was called Garage House back then. Fast forward a few years later after college and I started going to this club called Jospeh’s. Damn… I’m having a moment here reminiscing about the Jospeh’s days as Robert Owens “Was I Here Before” plays in the background. Nevertheless, Joseph’s was considered the Studio 54 of S. Fla during the late 80’s-early 90’s. That’s when I got fully indoctrinated into the diaspora of House Music. Around that time Acid House (D-Mob), Hip House (Tyree Cooper) was the soundtrack to my life. Not to mention the endless Red Zone and Masters At Work mixes that elevated and pushed House Music globally. And I’m so lucky to have experienced the club scene during the birth/emergence of both Hip Hop and House! As an unapologetic music head, but for my roommate Rodney, I would not be here leaving this comment and sharing anecdotes about the music we all love and a song that even in April of 2022 still brings us tears of nostalgia and joy. Love infinitum to the House music community all over the world.
