anima07swe, It seems like most Scandinavians don't even know what Scandinavia is. Unlike what a lot of people seem to think it's not actually a geographic region, we just think of it that way because it's been the same for a long time. Scandinavia is an ethno-cultural region. If Sweden still owned Finland that would also be Scandinavia, if Denmark owned northern Germany and parts of the British Isles that would also be Scandinavia. It's not a region limited by geography. It basically just means "The land of the Scandinavians". For whatever reason a lot of people seem to think that Scandinavians are named after the Scandinavian Peninsula. They're not though. The peninsula is named after the people. The people were named first. Scandinavians = Northern Germanic Peoples. That's exactly why Finnish people are not Scandinavians even though you might think they would be due to their geographical location. Finnish people belong to different ethnic group and are more closely related to Estonians and (way further out) even Hungarians. Danes, Swedes and Norwegians are more closely related to the Germans, Dutch etc. since we're all Germanic and the Finns are not. It's no wonder that people have a hard time understanding why Finland isn't Scandinavians if they believe Scandinavia is based on a geographical region. It may be easier to simply remind them that Scandinavian is basically just a "fancy" word for North Germanic. Then it suddenly makes perfect sene why the Finns aren't in that group. Now obviously that's a truth with some modifications these days, especially because Finland was part of Sweden in the past. Obviously some ethnic Swedes settled there, married Finnish people etc. so I'm sure *some* Finns are more Germanic than anything else these days, but as a whole people they're not.
As a Danish person, who actually understands everything that guy says, this is so funny... especially as he says "and as always, you're all some assholes" in danish...
They're saying the exact same thing that we the Swedes and Norwegians has been saying about Danish. Especially the woman who pointed at the throat and said it was more from the throat. We usually say that Danish speak as if they have something stuck in their throat, what is stuck in the throat depends on the person but usually a potatoe or porridge.
+growlingbehemoth Some dialects sound a bit sensitive, fragile or even feminine, that's true. The older dialects here around Stockholm for instance (yes I speak like that). But it's dying out fast now, due to immigration from Norrland and the middle east among other factors.
Well in danish we say that you "have a toad in your throat" ("have en tudse i halsen") if something is bothering your vocal chords, so this could be used as well. And agreed, Swedish is far more fluent-sounding (to me Norweigan sounds more like Danish than Swedish, but still more fluent). Danish is closer to German regarding how it sounds to foreigners than Swedish in my opinion, but if you speak "rigs-dansk" (old Danish) it sounds a lot more similar to Swedish and Norweigan.
dont tell me they are actually trying.. The danish: "så idag har i skrevet en helt masse udfordringer til mig" The imitaters: "scimmy scam sce scimmy scimme scem scam" -.- are you kidden me
Pretty sure if you hear Vietnamese (replace it with another language you do not know) and try to repeat what they said, you would miss it entirely. Danish does sound like gibberish compared to, say, Norwegian or Swedish which are clearer, so it is much harder to imitate it. Maybe a good comparison would be French (very hard to pronounce) and Spanish (easy) to a person who has never studied either language.
well done and don't pronounce a bunch of letters ... like their soft ds .... yeah just add a d like in mand, kvinde why not ... just for fun but dont forget to NOT pronounce them... lol
I am danish and when I hear danish spoken and I can't understand the words, I think it sounds like a mixture of swedish and dutch. I wouldnt say modern danish is a beatiful language like french or norwegian, but when old people speak it and when you hear old recordings of it, it is a very powerful and distinct language.
I think that they're right about the Danish language being 'rougher' and less elegant. What I don't agree on is the separation of words, I think it's easy to hear when words are separated in the Danish language. I must admit that it also depends on the dialect of the individual Dane. I am from the middle of the northen part of Jutland(Jylland), here the dialect really is a little less 'rough' and some places in Jutland it'll sound more flow-ish too. I am in no way shaming people from Zealand though(or anywhere else in Denmark).
+Lisa Dam Johansen It's easy for you, because you were born into it. It's somewhat less easy for a swede to hear that separation. But I see where you're coming from. I'm kind of surprised every time a dane states that Swedish is hard to understand. I mean, we speak almost the same language as you danes, only much clearer ;-) Perhaps it's generally a little hard to accept that your "natural" mother tounge can be perceived as odd or strange to a foreigner.
Sven Ekeberg Maybe you're right. :) I just think it's easy to tell the separation of words in Danish, because we do lack a lot of the "flow" that Swedish and a lot of other languages have ( it might just be me, though).. :) I sometimes have a hard time understanding Swedish, but my boyfriend seems to understand it perfectly, so not sure what's wrong with me, haha! ( To me Danish is more clear than Swedish. ;) ) Swedish is a beautiful language, though and I'd love to learn it.
There have been formal studies with a clear indication that danish children learn their own language slower than comparable countries, even up to the age of 8 years. One of the main factors being that they are less exposed to individual words that make up the language.
+Lisa Dam Johansen Here is one link in English that refers to the same research cphpost.dk/life-in-denmark/the-danish-languages-irritable-vowel-syndrome.html I hav mostly read it in Swedish myself spraktidningen.se/artiklar/2012/10/stackars-danska-barn

Words aren't spelled like they are spoken, and for a small country we have tons of dialects which even other danes do not understand. In actual fact Danish has got more in common with German than Swedish. I don't speak either language, but unlike Swedish, German sounds like an actual language to me. It's all about trial and error, hand gestures, and so on and so forth. The language really doesn't matter that much. Norwegian on the other hand actually has enough similarities that if I spend a few days together with Norwegian speaking people, it becomes like my first language. I just have to get used the different pronunciations. And as for reading Norwegian, well... you could be excused for mistaking Norwegian for Danish and visa versa.
+Street Tutorials There are thousands of languages and Danish is not the prettiest. Neither is Swedish or Norwegian.
Ida Elmhauge, I think that people who say that are just bad at languages. Danish is a great language. Who else have words such as 'speciallægepraksisplanlægningsstabiliseringsperiode' eller 'pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis'.
As a non Danish person i heard something like "shka baka fresk chengelus." there is not accurate way to explain how it sounds xD But the sound can be something like cooking? I heard eating sound.
Ok. Danish people's don't think they sounds bad. I come from a island names Bornholm (in Denmark but it's not too far from Sweden). For years ago on Bornholm we talk another "language". That was a little bit Swedish and a little bit Danish. So why did we not speak ?? Bornholmich?? XD (On Danish is it called Bornholmsk)
As a dane....this is kinda insulting but ok, also....how did they get “hej, Jeg er Rasmus og er 17 år......etc” to this “shruma scemma shramma hruahsama” like ok....we arent from the sims
Yeah Swedish sound more feminine. Really nice for swedish girls, but the men sounds kinda silly for me. Then again I am danish, and I admit that our language is kinda messed up in our pronunciations of many words.
Norwegian is definitely easier on the ears than Danish. The only problem is that Norwegian has that little upward question tone after the end of every sentence?
@@whatno5090 Swedish has weirds blowing sounds. I might be bias because I'm norwegian. But pronounciation and hearibilty(not sure if its a word) are much better in Norwegian
Finnish is so freaking soft and pleasant to hear! I love how it sounds, but dread to imagine studying it with all of its long words and so many cases that would make both Latin and Ancient Greek quietly sob in the corner. :/
Danish sounds more like a potato in the throat, or they talk in the back of the throat and more not so clearly as Swedish and Norwegian. Swedish, I think is very adorable if it's like Pippi long stocking dialect, but not so much skone dialect or Hellan og Hallan, isn't as charming, but then again, it all depends on who talks. I remember suddenly I saw it differently when a charming nurse I knew talked skone dialect. Suddenly, I loved the dialect I used to not like as much. In Norway I like Oslo and Stavanger and Haugesund dialect. Not so much Flisa and Bergen and wide farmer dialects, but again, it depends on the person, very much. I m not good at knowing dialects, just a few I noticed. I generally love Danish people and country and think it's charming language, even with the poteto sound. Cool with dialects, tho, no matter if some sounds strange, own it, and I don't care if it's a bit wierd in my ears, if I like the person. Some times, it's almost impossible to understand, though. 😂🤔😯😉
The youtuber talked really fast in the video you showed in the start, so I get why it sounded kinda weird xD In my opinion our language(Danish) sounds like someone speaking with a potato in their mouth..🇩🇰
Too many people thinking Finnish is like the Scandinavian languages.
+eksiarvamus Tbh not many ppl know much at all about Finland, so maybe that's why :)
+Benjamin Horto Would go so far as to say many ppl don't know much about the countries that makes skandinavia... they know bits and pieces of us..
Most people have problems telling the numbers of countries that make the *true* Scandinavia (geographically, not historically)
Yeah agree with you and also
too many people think Korean and Japanese are like Chinese even they are completely different.

I know right? What would we do without our inferior neighbor to make fun of all the time?

Finnish sounds nothing like Danish

How can people think Danish sounds like German? 😱
Because it does, in a way. Parts of the accent (some pronunciations) are similar, althought the languages are quite different indeed.
Nononooo! The pronunciation is not like German, the Danish one is more similar to Austrian and Dutch. German is "harder", Danish is "rounder". Is this understandable? 😄

+Jeppe Nørgaard smukt brug af dansk. tager mine ord i mig. Idiot;)
+Street Tutorials There are thousands of languages and Danish is not the prettiest. Neither is Swedish or Norwegian.
+PANNAHOUSE | HOME OF STREET FOOTBALL I couldn't agree more with you, I really hate my native language :P
Can you do Finnish next, please? :)
I think its disrespectfull, that someone can say that Danish sounds awful, and sound like you thro up. Its so mean.😒
*sights*... welcome in the Dutch world
DutchGameGuy00, I think the Germans would agree too, their language have been the of butt jokes for the past 50 years.
Ida Elmhauge, I think that people who say that are just bad at languages. Danish is a great language. Who else have words such as 'speciallægepraksisplanlægningsstabiliseringsperiode' eller 'pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis'.
As I learn Norwegian, it's great both on mouth and ears. But Danish has the distinct taste for its accent.
Ida Elmhauge yeah but did they lie tho
0:08 Nope, it dosnt sound like swediah
As a Norwegian, I can say I undersrood everything they said. It does sound like they’re gonna throw up.
It sounds like "herpin derpin shloofin derpin got dam hie wat stuffin derpin."
jep
As a non Danish person i heard something like "shka baka fresk chengelus."
there is not accurate way to explain how it sounds xD
But the sound can be something like cooking?
I heard eating sound.
"Whats Danish like?"
"I dont know like Finnish"
Rasmus Brohave, seri?
Danish sounds like...a drunk duck with a potato in its mouth trying unsuccessfully to vomit.
Fryrish idiot
hahahahahaha xD As a Dane myself, This is so funny xD
Danish is a shitty language even French is better lol
***** lol I'm half Swedish you freak
+Lusifer-SWE I am arrogant? Ehm... I am Sorry about that ... But also... I'm from Denmark, Not Norway...
Duzell26 was he or she talking to you or me I don't get it.
How can this misunderstanding even happen? It was pretty fucking clear the 'arrogant' comment was directed at 'Purple-eyed Viking'....
Im swedish and i have no idea why then are saying its like danish it sounds nothing like danish
Can you do Japanese next?
😂😂 he is really good
I find that kind of offensive because I'm Danish
Mary Woods Same
Yeah Swedish sound more feminine. Really nice for swedish girls, but the men sounds kinda silly for me. Then again I am danish, and I admit that our language is kinda messed up in our pronunciations of many words.
I think Danish sounds most like German mixed with little bit of Swedish xD
Its like this: (from Dane)
Swedish > Danish > Norwegian.
I'm half swede half Norwegian so for me
Swedish =Norwegian > Danish
@@makkonen0 I'm talking just about how nice it sounds
Where’s Dutch?
Can you please do next What Bulgarian sounds like to foreigners?!
OMG ITS "Rasmus Brohave"
Det er jo Rasmus
Fliken? Fliken? What's a fliken? ??
I think Finnish language would be a great idea for the next video, i really want to see what they would guess.
😂🤔😯😉
Next video: Persian and Arabic :D
at some point, it reminded me of the times i got car sick imn bus n threw up so bad n embarrassed myself
The youtuber talked really fast in the video you showed in the start, so I get why it sounded kinda weird xD In my opinion our language(Danish) sounds like someone speaking with a potato in their mouth..🇩🇰
finish and Danish are actually so different tho xD
hmm. I am norwegian but I can understand doth swedish and danish. danish is almost alike writhen norwegian. swedish is more alike the vokal norwegian.
can they hear? im danish and the don't Even try.
So tough to pronounce. Don t even try to do their number system.
Haha It's funny to see what people think of Danish xD
*tries to imitate Danish *
*proceeds to speak an imitated hindi *
Norwegian and Danish are really similar.
Im offended.
