Hi! So this video took off at a rate I never could have imagined. I’ll never not be shocked by that number. Over 100K! That’s insane! Thank you all so much for watching. honestly the scaffolding scene just gets more interesting over time because of dragon being there smoker still trying to find the answer to why people like Rodger and Luffy laugh when they're about to die and the implications that question has for what the will of D is also it was most likely dragon who caused that lightning strike
It's funny cause a person actually calculated how long it takes to watch one piece in all of it's episode and it was only 330 hours without doing anything but watching it.
@@ahmadbassam2898 Close to the same amount of time but that's only if you watch/read it 24/7 without working or doing anything else exceptions are sleeping, drinking, and resting. If you want the basic meaning of it, it means 13 days of nonstop one piece to catch up to the current arc, pretty neat right😎😎😎
@@ahmadbassam2898 though the manga will probably take a little bit longer 'cause the manga is much more detailed and thorough with it's drawings, then again there are barely any fillars in the manga so it depends on the person reading it to catch up.
"Luffy doesn't change" STRONGLY DISAGREE. Luffy changes a good bit over the course of the show. Sure his base personality is still the same but he grows and learns as he goes not just in terms of strength and capabilities but in terms of the responsibilities of being a captain. Early on he's like the teenager who thinks he's invincible. He just believes he can do and beat anything and to an extent is correct as East Blue the weakest of the oceans is pretty much no match for him. Then he runs into Smoker. He doesn't learn yet from this but it's the first taste of what's to come. Then he reaches the grand line and things start to get tougher. He begins to run into enemies that put up more of a fight but also situations that pose more of a threat. Things he can't just punch his way out of. Like when Nami got sick after Little Garden. The story makes a point here where Vivi at one point flat out calls Luffy out on the fact that if he just keeps trying to fight his way through every problem he's going to put his crew in danger, and Luffy visibly recognizes this, bowing his head to beg for the help his crew member needs. Then in Alabasta this is shown further but in reverse as Luffy brings up the reverse with Vivi that if they don't put their lives on the line they won't be able to save anything. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Dealing with Usopp at Water 7, the crew getting wiped out at Sabaody, losing Ace at Marineford, and on and on. Again yes Luffy's core personality doesn't change but he as a character does. His change is more about his growth as a captain from the goofy overconfident idiot to being someone who can truly stand in the role of captain and be the overconfident idiot that is needed to push through the hurdles ahead.
I have to say this is mostly correct, but I still hate that scene with Vivi. Luffy was being nice and asking for help and then they shot at them and hit Vivi. If it were Shanks he would have retaliated since they harmed a friend of his. Vivi giving Luffy shit is actual trash since they shot first. Hell, it's really dumb on Drum Island's part because any other pirate crew that showed up would have annihilated them for that. Kid, Capone, Apoo, Hawkins? All going to kill them for that action.
@@KingShadowOmega Think of it from the townfolks perspective. They literally just had their nation attacked by pirates, this on top of the fact that pirates are known for treachery to start with so a pirate claiming they don't mean any harm isn't the most trustworthy statement to begin with. I also don't believe Shanks would have attacked (neither would any of the others you mentioned if they had half a brain between them). Shanks has shown time and time again that he is very much a talk things out kind of person. He is strong enough to fight but that's generally shown to be only when required. Even with that short fired he likely would have agreed with Vivi's response. It's better to avoid a fight and especially given that they have a sick crew member who requires medical attention attacking the one group of people who might be able to save that crew members life would be about the dumbest thing they could have done.
@@KingShadowOmega the point still stands that they needed the towns help to find a doctor, and do you think kureha would have helped them if she found out they beat the crap out of the townspeople?
@@CeliriaRose you know the reason why luffy doesn't have a little development because he already great character to begin with i mean he always on top popular poll worldwide
@@Luck_Plz Except he does have development, that was the entire point of my initial post. Also the idea that if a character is good they don't need development simply isn't true. Character progression and development is a large part of what drives a story. One Piece wouldn't be as good as it is if Luffy was just a static character the whole way through regardless of if he was good from the start or not.
I don’t think the “Sorry Im Dead” scene was dumb at all. That scene was necessary to show the parallel between Luffy and the man whose will he inherited. Roger.
@@youngegg1 I wouldn't say it's and L as much as just someone's first surface experience with the series. He doesn't have 5 years of UA-cam dissection and theory videos to help him appreciate the intricacies of Oda's genius.
I don't see how the Loguetown scene is dumb. Dragon saved Luffy with lightning, Luffy's immune to lightning, of course Buggy survives because he's Buggy D. Clown sama
"Luffy declares war on the world government cause they essentially made one of his crew members cry." ...I think there was a bit more to what many consider the greatest arc in the story than that.
I'm a bit disappointed you didn't go over how freaking dark one piece can get. In a world where slavery, domination, and power rule, a hero that embodies freedom is needed. That is why Luffy is the perfect protagonist to belong in this universe
Yeah he didn't mention a lot of things or maybe he didn't get it. I mean he said he caught up with one piece but talked mostly about east blue saga and he stated that dragon saving luffy was dumb. Like, if you are caught up, how could you think that scene is dumb?
Me and so many other one piece fans out there have been following this story for so many years now week after week, in every little detail and panels in the chapters are well thought of meanings and spot on story telling. Its literally a master piece. Oda knew from chapter 1 what he wanted to create. The story goes so deep like you said, human trafficking, slavery and domination. But also every Island has its own politics, architecture food people races and governments ect. ect. And also for example the numbers of the bounties also have meanings. Everything is connected from chapter 1 till the end. I strongly got the feeling that this guy missed the one piece boat, still wanted to hop on but he just missed the boat. He can simply read the story, but its so much more deeper than that. I actually felt sorry for him after watching this video. But hey, keep it up bro. welcome to the one piece family.
Glad that u enjoyed the ride but it seems that most of the writing went completely over your head (themes of the story, misunderstood so many scenes and especially luffy's character). Luffy seems like a surface level character but it's the complete opposite. Luffy's embodiment of freedom is ridiculous. He is probably the only anime character that never had a monologue inside his head because someone who is free has no reason of being afraid to say something. Luffy contrasts every single antagonist in this show and every single fight he fought was related to freedom. Even his devil fruit symbolizes freedom lmao. Luffy is the same since ch 1?what? Re read the first chapter and then watch the bar scene again in jaya. Water 7 saga was literally luffy growing as a captain . His ideals sure are the same but that's because the story isn't about how the world changes the pirate king but how the pirate king changed the world. A great example is what happening outside of wano with the abolishment of the 7 warlords. The scene at Logue town was not dumb at all. Luffy wouldn't mind dying while trying to achieve his dream + every D. Member smiles before their death. I haven't even gotten to the characterization part which the best oart of luffy's character... In conclusion luffy is one of the greatest written characters in fiction imo.
10:05 "Luffy declares war on the world government...because they made one of his crew members cry" Uhhh pretty sure it's because they were going to kill her lmao
It's so annoying to hear constantly from people "Don't want to watch One Piece because it's to long" literally at least 75% of those same people have watched Bleach, Naruto, and Naruto Shippuden that's already 1000 episodes long, they have no excuse other than they are lazy. One Piece is an absolutely amazing anime and I don't regret watching a single second of it.
Yeah, I'd rather they be honest and say they're just not interested then make dumb excuses. Fine, if it's not your cup of tea then let's just move on with our lives.
@@JBerg_ Exactly. I'm currently catching up on the series (somewhere around chapter 900ish with the end of act 1 of Wano) and I've been following One Piece on and off since somewhere around when the manga started Water 7. Every 3 or 4 years I'll do a recap and reread til I hit the current stuff and every time I'm impressed at the amount of depth in most every aspect. Luffy and the crew have a tremendous amount of growth and while their core personalities don't change they've definitely gotten to a point where they don't approach situations the way they used to.
The one nitpick i have is that Luffy didnt declare war on the world govt because they "made robin cry." Its because the world government forcibly kidnapped robin (by putting her in an impossible situation), and the only way to get her back was to put themselves in danger and make themselves primary targets for the world govt by shooting down the flag. It was also an arc where luffy's ability to captain was called into question, and his ability to not let others walk all over his crew. Sorry, the reason you gave seemed much cornier / more fairy-tale esque.
Yea, they were purposefully going to imprison a girl just because of who she was and... ugh not to mention how deep the lore can get in showcasing the government being complicated but explicitly committing genocide... and Luffy fighting for what's right no matter what is kinda bad. Especially after 2020
That's not even why he did it though. He only did it to show Spandam and Robin that he didn't give a FUCK about being enemies with the World Government.
nah spandam was bragging that if Luffy fights to get Robin back, he's starting a fight with the world government and Luffy basically told him he didn't give a shit, he will burn down the flag and declare war on the WG to get Robin back.
It was also a callback to Sabo's enemies being the whole world, not just a few people. It also set up the greater conflict of the story. Just letting Robin escape wasn't going to solve anything because the fear of the WG will always be there. Luffy understood that he needed to show Robin (and eventually will show the rest of the world) that she can dream of a better future and that the WG can't do shit if you don't let them.
It’s a perfect moment to start one piece and catch up between all the madness between kaido and luffy instead of starting it when another new arc starts
I agree! I didn't quite time this video's release with chapter 1000 like I originally planned to, but I did manage to time my first reading so that 1000 was the first chapter I read as it released.
I dunno, maybe because animating a 15 second commercial is much simpler than doing an episode a week each week for couple decades straight without stopping almost once?
I kind of wish I could just binge the whole arc. I’m jealous of people just getting into One Piece because chances are it will be finished by the time they catch up.
Only Oda could make rubber, a seemingly weak and useless power (when compared to the other devil fruits) one of the most competent, creative, and practical abilities. Only the character of Luffy would be able exploit an ability like that to such an extent. In regards to your earlier criticism of Luffy goofing around, I view it more as Luffy not trying to pick a fight with every character he encounters. This story is not just about Luffy though, it is an ensemble cast, so I appreciate those occasions when Luffy takes a backseat.
Also the fact that he entrusts his friends to finish their fights like how he didn't step in to help zoro with his fight against mihawk even when he was at the brink of collapsing.
I really like the fact that Luffy started with a more “common” or “weak” devil fruit rather than something like a logia fruit because it shows how well Luffy uses his fruit and shows how powerful the world is against him (if this makes sense)
I will contest that Luffy doesn't change. He becomes a better and better leader, he is humble when asking for help because Vivi taught him. He makes tough decisions because Iceberg rightly called him out for being irresponsible. Etc etc, his core doesn't waver but he does change over time
Saw another video about that and it pointed out that where other shounen has the protagonist learning who he really is (the "boy to man" journey) that's not what Luffy does; Luffy already knows who he is, Luffy learns how to be a better leader.
@@nimeimei1931 So... That scene where they were asking for a doctor for Nami and Vivi told him he couldn't demand help, he had to humbly ask for it... that didn't happen?
For a series this long, it's more interesting to see the protagonist change the world rather than the world change him. I think Oda made the right choice for Luffy's personality. He doesn't change but he surely learns

I feel that this video is very vague. Luffy does change, a lot in fact. Especially starting with Water 7 Also Loguetown scene can't be dumb. It's literally Dragon's power. lol
Wrong. It's never been stated what Dragon's power is or if he even has a Devil Fruit power. Keep the fan theories separate from the actual material.

@@Drums_of_Liberation C'mon man. We've seen in two instances wind appear along with Dragon. It's been put there instantly. That's like saying that we don't understand Fujitora's devil fruit before getting its name in SBS, when we clearly did.
@ There's a theory that explains Dragon's weather thingy. So basically, those powers would be Uranus, and that's why Dragon is the most wanted person in the One Piece world, not just becuz he's the leader of the Revolutionary Army, but becuz he has one of the ancestral weapons(and the WG knows that)
Luffy does change, he learns to be a better leader and captain, he matures, and learns more about the world from Chapter 1. Yes his ideals are the same but his character does change still and has development. Check out Mr Morj videos for more in that, like his Water 7 video. Luffy literally says I’m sorry for being selfish all these years just when the time skip happens and there about to go to Fishman Island. That’s tons of development in Luffy there, he’s not exactly the same person from Chapter 1.
“Luffy never changes”. Couldn’t be more wrong. Vivi teaches him how to lead on Drum Island, and he subtly begins to start actually acting like a leader after that. After Marineford, Luffy changes drastically after that.
5:08 except for the fact that Luffy had very good reasons basically every time, I guess the reason least related to him would be the Buggy situation but even then he had reasons, and pretty much every other situation was to help people he wanted to join his crew; it's true that Luffy was OP for the east blue, but they also tell you that east blue is the weakest of the four blues, if Luffy had been just a normal kinda strong person in the east blue it would've made it so broken for him to be successfully challenging a warlord basically right out the gate into the grandline with basically the only combat progress after entering the grandline being a wimpy king and his men and mr. 5, ms. valentine, and mr. 3.
Totally disagree about the cup noodle add. Like the anime isn't always top quality art-wise, but the manga's art is amazing. I much prefer the art style to what was in that Ad. Besides the fact that Oda's art style perfectly suits Luffy and the world Oda created, a more realistic style would not work with the story at all.
Also they probably had months to do the ad meanwhile One Piece anime teams HAS to produce 1 chapter a week for +20 years and actually, there a very few arc with bad animation (basically Dressrosa) and Wano with an insane animation.
it kinda pisses me that even after he read all of it he still sees it or at least talks as if it's some happy childish show. For example, he didn't tell Sogeking to shoot the world govt. flag just bc they made Robin cry, it was bc they wanted to execute her. Now, I know that isn't dark but it does have some serious issues treated and the series would be much better if it didn't have the boundaries of a shounen and was a seinen instead
I completely disagree that one piece would be better off as a seinen. It does perfectly well in tackling darker issues within the confines of shounen. In Robin's case it literally details how a corrupt government committed genocide on her entire people, is that not dark enough for you? And it's "happy childish" tone or whatever you want to call it is a crucial part of the characters and worldbuilding. Luffy's antics and all the other absurd aspects of the world would simply not exist in a darker grittier genre. I'm tired of people equating dark, adult stories with quality when shows like one piece or avatar the last airbender have already proven otherwise.
@@jadeliu1462 bro no, it 100% would be better if it were a seinen. It’s my favorite regardless but you have to be kidding yourself. There are aspects of the show that are just too childish and had it been a seinen the stakes would always feel much higher. And the range of topics you could explore would be greater as well. This is a show about pirates, shit really shouldn’t be PG13 if we’re being honest, but that just goes to show how strong the writing is if it’s still as good as it is.
@@kenyattafrazier No story is inherently better as R rated or PG-13 rated or G. There have been phenomenal stories all across the spectrum of "darkness". One Piece is a story that WANTS its main character to be goofy and have fun and SPREAD that to everywhere he goes. If it were a Senein that would be more out of place. Its kinda hard to tell a writer that the series should be different because it'd be better unless he is just making amateur mistakes like pacing or forgetting characters. Ultimately if you take away the goofy elements from One Piece, it's not One Piece. It'd be like taking away the gore from Saw. It ceases to be Saw and is now something else entirely. I understand your mindset though, but I just believe it's flawed.
@@captainmarvelous7678 I don’t have any issue with One Piece being goofy, that’s not my issue. There are certain things that are just too watered down, in the serious moments, that you would almost rather see be really explicit. I think a show can be a seinen and still be goofy, that’s my outlook on it. If you disagree with that part then I guess we just don’t see eye to eye there. If you look at it through that lens, as I do, then I don’t think it’s a flawed mindset. I think the reasoning is pretty solid, it’s just a matter of wether you think a seinen can be a seinen and still pull off being goofy and funny, which I do. If you don’t agree then I completely understand why you’d think it’s better off how it is
the change luffy makes from chapter 1 to 1000 is he goes from a care free, goofy kid, who doesn't always understand the severity of the situations he's in, to eventually becoming a well respected and strong captain. by the time luffy confronts kaido and big mom, his first action is to check on the wounded and assure their safety. it wasn't until situations like almost dying against crocodile, the near falling out of his crew at water 7, and the death of his brother that truly forced luffy to grow not only as a fighter, but as a leader.
What strong about Luffy is his will, he's not even considered one of the best in term of how ridiculous strong people in this shows but he's getting there after1000 chapters and no one can absolutely break his will, except that moment we all know about.
You're not wrong about up to loguetown being the prologue. Many people assume loguetown is a mistranslation of roguetown, but it's not, loguetown is appropriately named as the town of beginnings for the start ( and the end ) of roger's journey, and probably also luffy's. It's literally the proLOGUE and the epiLOGUE
The sorry I'm dead scene is one of Luffy's most character defining moments, and is such a great scene. The lightning is predicted to be Dragon's doing and his fruit.
It was also stated that east blue was the weakest sea out of the four seas. That might be one reason why Luffy was so strong during the first couple arcs.
"sorry i am dead" scene is litterally of of luffy`s best peaks in the series. it`s a very good representation of his freedom which is arguably his best theme. him accepting his death shows how he is free from death itself. it`s not dumb at all
Why is the 20 secs ad movie quality compared to 20 seasons of 24 mins per episode anime? I think that answers itself. Also, One piece does inhabit 3 decades of wildly varying animation styles.
"Luffy stays the same" just saw a scene yesterday in Punk Hazard where Zoro yells at Luffy to get his shit together because this is the new world and Luffy understands what he means. Plenty of other scenes as well but definitely one that counts as Luffy's gradual growth over the years.
One piece is my favourite manga of all time it’s goated and people should give it a chance like especially during the pandemic like if you go into the manga and say it’s bad and long you won’t get into it rn I am re reading water 7 to the new world in coloured
sorry but calling luffy being saved at lougetown by dragon's lightning before buggy kills him a dumb scene is sorely missing the greater theme and story arc of this world. luffy is going to bring the dawn of a new world by the end of the series, a world until now ruled by the celestial dragons. it's literally his destiny to follow in rogers footsteps and complete what he could not. with every step of luffys journey mirroring rogers, it makes sense that he would die on that same podium as the man who inspired him but not before achieving his destiny. The lightning my have been caused by dragon, but it was the will of D that saved him
It's not even remotely confirmed that Dragon caused the lightning, you should be careful about trying to spread your head canon as fact, even if it is a popular theory. Also, your defense of the moment is incredibly weak. No one is arguing the existing parallels between Luffy and Roger in the scene, they're saying the lightning saving him is a Deus Ex Machina, which is generally viewed as weak writing.
@2 0 First, I was stating that a deus ex machina is generally perceived to be weak writing, not the notion that Dragon rescuing him is. That's not particularly difficult to parse. Second, it has yet again not been explicitly confirmed that Dragon can control the weather. While it is very heavily suggested he can control the wind, this also has not been confirmed, even though people generally accept it as fact. Third, Buggy executing Luffy is not a deus ex machina, and I suspect you do not know what a deus ex machina is. It is not simply something that doesn't make sense. It is the unexpected arrival of something which has not been explained in order to solve a problem: Read, Dragon suddenly saving Luffy (potentially) twice without any prior knowledge of who he is.
Okay, this is why some people should take their time reading the manga and not rush it, from what I see a lot of themes and character progression went over your head.
Luffy does change and not just in looks or something cosmetic but at the same time WHO luffy is never changes. He grows but he never stops being luffy. You really get how and why he values his friends and loved ones.
you're right that one piece is cool, but you can't really grasp the good reasons why, you make quite weak points in one piece's favor, when there's so many stronger points to be made -_-
I fully agree, I remember rolling my eyes the minute luffy was introduced and for a large part of the the first few chapters. Then one day I started thinking, since when/at what point did I actually start liking luffy??
Literally me right now. I am a long time anime and Manga reader/watcher. I watched everything anime related except for onepiece and mostly because of its art style (Naruto/bleach/hxh/jojo etc). I was looking for some excitement ... ironically enough I kept skipping onepiece and watching other animes for such a long time (20 whole years). I got bored and started reading and watching it and it was a pretty good start after 100. . . . . 1018 chapters later and it is the first anime/ manga to make me laugh cry, suspense and genuinely care about the large casting of characters and especially the strawhat crew. I even love onepiece more than Naruto and Bleach. Both which I grew up with. All I can say is that OnePiece is literally the kinda story I have been waiting for and I'm glad I had the courage to read and watch it all.
"This scene is still very dumb" .... wait until he figures out that this is 100% foreshadowing an extremely important Devil Fruit like 900 chapters down the road
Man, this channel is gold, how is it even possible for you to have only 85 subscribers? the quality of this video is just perfect, you deserve more bro
i wouldnt say luffy doesnt change, sure he stays head strong and has the same goals. The biggest change is that Luffy becomes a better captain. You cant exactly notice the change of Luffy because its so slow and their isn't a specific moment (which is the beauty of Odas story telling) Like all throughout eastblue and so Luffy made careless decisions that cost the rest of the strawhats. But as time went on like specifically east blue he learned what it meant to be a captain to his crew. Being a real leader (still fun and head strong) but he made smarter decisions that would benefit the crew rather then hurt them.
There is an specific moment, Luffy vs Usopp in Water 7 and his decision to Leave Merry, that was the first time Luffy acted as a real Captain, and after that he really started acting as one, but without leaving his goofy side.
Glad to see I'm not the only one still endlessly salty about the cup noodle one piece ad teasing us for something we'll never get. DAMN IT LOOKED SO GOOD WHY
Because that type of animation you'd need literal movie budgets worth of money to produce a single episode of that quality, the amount of time and money to make just a 24 episode anime like that let alone a shonen like One Piece would bankrupt basically any studio.
one piece is one of those series that, every time i come back to it to reread an arc, i fall further in love with the series. its the only of the long running shounen that did this to me. dragon ball, i got fed up, the loveable kid who put his life on the line to avenge his friend grew up into an adult who would risk his son's life for the sake of his own entertainment, the visually interesting martial arts is fun, but i couldnt really enjoy the story around it (can appreciate the contrasting character arcs of goku and vegeta, dosent mean i gotta like and enjoy it). naruto, i kept finding new plot holes, new frustrations, and whilst i do still love the characters, the story they are in just makes it hard for me to stil love the series. bleach was great untill the time skip, after that, well, it just became "cool swords do things, and theres a mystery enemy", and whilst there are still parts of the later arcs i do like, my overall opinion of the series was dragged down alot by those arcs. one piece on the other had, the more i read, the more i appreciate oda's skill. weather its planning ahead whilst planting little details, or he's just really good at using his own little worldbuilding details to mesh together a new plot point that seems like it was intentional for along time, it still takes alot of skill to make it so hard to work out which was which. and the character arcs, whilst subtle, are still there. and they don't change who the character is. so whenever i come back, i see little details i missed before, i see characters i fell in love with still being the characters i fell in love with, and i see a maintained, or even better quality of story than before, i still feel the same sense of wonder at this massive unexplored world, and the fact that this has stayed a constant for me, even as i consumed more media and my tastes developed. i just love one piece, and i love luffy in particular.
The reason it's better quality is because its like a 1-2 min ads for noodles means they have more time to get that shit done instead of being on a weekly time frame plus they want to keep it in line with the mangas theme
So very glad I started One Piece when it was 500 chapter, during the Fish Man Island arc! Then again, I had to go through Dreasrosa, while awesome, was very long
Not gonna lie I've been avoiding one piece for so long due to its length. But now I've made it from chapter 100 to 650 in a week and am more Addicted than I have been for any anime. The sad thing is that I couldn't even imagine myself being able to convince my friends to hop on this, especially since the whole East blue saga until along park had me pretty bored
So Luffy undergoes massive character growth at multiple points in the series. At Drum island and Alabasta. he learned how to be a real leader from Vivi and a lesson he learned from shanks as a young boy was reinforced. That being, when not to fight. At Waters 7 and ennies lobby, he had to make hard decision after hard decision and if he failed to make those decisions or he made the wrong one then the crew would be done for. He also learned the difficulty of a leadership position from Zoro and Ussopp. Without those character growth moments, the separation at Sabaody archipelago would have broken all of them and he would not have been able to do what he did at Udon prison in the current Wano Kuni arc. Taking command of the prisoners the way he did shows that he is still working within a framework personality that he has always shown but it was greatly expanded and his leadership and charisma are refined to a point. This is by far my favorite series and I love talking about it so thank you for making this video!
The scene you said was dumb ( the lougetown one ) is a really important moment for luffy for sure at first it seams a bit stupid given the circumstance but the more you progress and learn about luffy and the world around him, surviving by fate/luck is one of luffys BEST moments in my opinion
Love this video and am excited to welconme you to the One Piece fold, however it is kinda obvious that you read it in a month. I did as well when I first read it. And when you skim a large text that quickly you miss a lot of details. For example the Loguetown scene is essential to us understanding Luffy's conviction and what it means to be Pirate King, as well as introducing important big players into the story. Not to mention that you've kinda missed Luffy's character arc, it is a slow and subtle one to be sure but Luffy when he set out is quite different from the Luffy we have in Wano. The events preceding the time skip have radically shaped his understanding of what it is that he's setting out to do and with each arc his resolution to never give up is strengthened. To quote Shanks, 'By Experiencing Both, Victory And Defeat, Running Away And Shedding Tears, A Man Will Become A Man. It's Okay To Cry, But You Have To Move On." Luffy has done just that.
Being caught up on a mega epic like the manga one piece is an unique experience I love trying to predict where the story is going chapter to chapter and trying to predict twists but oda keeps up guessing . I have been reading the mags weekly for 15+ years and I have grown to truely admire the work ethic that oda embodies 19-20 hrs days 6 days a week 3 weeks a month just to give us our weekly chapters . It’s been an interesting life growing up with the weekly releases of one piece
If you look at 5:40 you can actually see the X marking the One Piece and ponder about the size of it and remember how Pluton supposedly can destroy a whole island and what the One Piece might become.
I can't believe u said that about the east blue fights... reread east blue man, they are nothing goku like, nothing. Oh and the lighting scene on logue town, his father was there watching and he saved him, the one piece online community theories that he has a wind logia and can control the weather. Oda chooses very carefully what he puts in his story, the set-ups are made years in advance, that's how he writes his story
The great thing about the anime (Pre-Deresroza except Wano that is!) Are the gorgeous OSTs One Piece really got some of the best musical pieces out there among any kind of fictional media seriously
IT'S NO DUMB, ODA DOES NOT DO ANYTHING BY ACCIDENT, THAT STORM THAT SAVED LUFFY IS CLEARLY DRAGON STOPPING BUGGY FROM KILLING HIS SON......AND THE WALK TO ARLONG PARK ISNT THE BEST PART, IT'S THE FACT HE GAVE NAMI HIS HAT. SIMPLE BUT EFFECTIVE.
I don't wanna caught up with one piece too even though it is my childhood I stop watching in 6th grade I think it was impeldown arc back then? Then I decided to read the manga during quarantine and binged it in a day and a half without sleeping.
cuz it is a 2 min ad from 2021 we did not have that kinda quality from the years 1998 - 2011 and a 2 min ad way easier to make in good quality then a 20 min ep every week
I feel after East Blue Luffy isn't the winner of conflicts just because he is stronger than the villains, but because he never gives up. He lost two times against Crocodile but came back and finally won. Luffy is strong but he isn't the strongest, I think it's a good message that you can lose as long as you keep your principles and get up again all is well. Normally this message is reserved for side characters and not protagonists
I think you need to reread the story. Reading 1000 chapters in a month will definitely leave some gaps of knowledge and things you have missed. Such as you saying luffy has little character development or luffy declaring War on the world government. Glad you gave the story a chance

honestly the scaffolding scene just gets more interesting over time because of dragon being there smoker still trying to find the answer to why people like Rodger and Luffy laugh when they're about to die and the implications that question has for what the will of D is also it was most likely dragon who caused that lightning strike
So when does one piece gets better
People who dont read one Piece: One piece is too long
People who read one Piece: One piece is too short, i need more
It's funny cause a person actually calculated how long it takes to watch one piece in all of it's episode and it was only 330 hours without doing anything but watching it.

"Luffy doesn't change"
STRONGLY DISAGREE.
Roger.
I take it this is an L video, thanks for making me save time

Yeah that scene is great and important to the story, especially now. He didn’t understand that scene at all.

Clown sama
That's also pretty much a foreshadow for Dragon's characterand the fight between Enel and Luffy, it was agreat scene for me.
Yeah, I don't think he understood that. But to be fair, neither did I at first until I started watching the One Piece UA-cam content creators.
Dragon didn’t save luffy with lightning Wdym. He did save luffy tho
And buggy(& crew) already tanked a Buggy Ball. Which destroyed a entire section of a town.
Oh. I didn't know that was Dragon. I thought it was bs writing lol. That was one of my least fav moments in the show
"Luffy declares war on the world government cause they essentially made one of his crew members cry."
...I think there was a bit more to what many consider the greatest arc in the story than that.
Yeah, he should watch Mr.Morj's video about Enies Lobby
I'm a bit disappointed you didn't go over how freaking dark one piece can get. In a world where slavery, domination, and power rule, a hero that embodies freedom is needed. That is why Luffy is the perfect protagonist to belong in this universe
Yeah he didn't mention a lot of things or maybe he didn't get it. I mean he said he caught up with one piece but talked mostly about east blue saga and he stated that dragon saving luffy was dumb. Like, if you are caught up, how could you think that scene is dumb?
Don’t forget dressrosa
That was the most darkest shit
There's a shit ton of racism too.
I agree just watching the first 5 minutes i could tell it flew over his head
"embodiment of freedom" that right here is what one piece is about.
Don't worry he would re read the entire manga again in the future, like all of us (or it just me at least)
10:05 "Luffy declares war on the world government...because they made one of his crew members cry"
Uhhh pretty sure it's because they were going to kill her lmao
It's so annoying to hear constantly from people "Don't want to watch One Piece because it's to long" literally at least 75% of those same people have watched Bleach, Naruto, and Naruto Shippuden that's already 1000 episodes long, they have no excuse other than they are lazy. One Piece is an absolutely amazing anime and I don't regret watching a single second of it.
It’s a piece of shit excuse at this point
People rewatch naruto and naruto shippuden before an episode of one piece

@@KingShadowOmega exactly
nah spandam was bragging that if Luffy fights to get Robin back, he's starting a fight with the world government and Luffy basically told him he didn't give a shit, he will burn down the flag and declare war on the WG to get Robin back.
Rereading the series myself, been enjoying recalling little details along the way.
I'm reading it for the first time since I caught up to the anime and the manga from there about a year ago
Yeah, really liked at twin capes when crocus recognized luffy as Joyboy
Reading One Piece at least two times is part of the experience. Can't wait to see the ending and then reading all of it again
I caught up at the very start of Wano
Even in comparison to other devilfruits rubber and how far you can go with the material is pretty OP as a basis for your super power.
This aged like milk
@@deadsoon How so? Everything they said still stands.
I really like the fact that Luffy started with a more “common” or “weak” devil fruit rather than something like a logia fruit because it shows how well Luffy uses his fruit and shows how powerful the world is against him (if this makes sense)
No one makes “pirates who can’t swim” sound better than Oda.
I will contest that Luffy doesn't change. He becomes a better and better leader, he is humble when asking for help because Vivi taught him. He makes tough decisions because Iceberg rightly called him out for being irresponsible. Etc etc, his core doesn't waver but he does change over time
By the way just wanted to say this is a well made video essay. Hope you keep it up and enjoy the ride
Saw another video about that and it pointed out that where other shounen has the protagonist learning who he really is (the "boy to man" journey) that's not what Luffy does; Luffy already knows who he is, Luffy learns how to be a better leader.
Cap vivi didn’t taught him shit
“Turns out it’s pretty good”
Me: pretty good? What do you mean pretty good?
Totally disagree about the cup noodle add. Like the anime isn't always top quality art-wise, but the manga's art is amazing. I much prefer the art style to what was in that Ad. Besides the fact that Oda's art style perfectly suits Luffy and the world Oda created, a more realistic style would not work with the story at all.
*Realistic Moria*
Also they probably had months to do the ad meanwhile One Piece anime teams HAS to produce 1 chapter a week for +20 years and actually, there a very few arc with bad animation (basically Dressrosa) and Wano with an insane animation.
Mans called one of the best scenes in the series "dumb", I'm out.
it kinda pisses me that even after he read all of it he still sees it or at least talks as if it's some happy childish show.
@@kenyattafrazier LOL :D what a soft heart. "shouldn't be PG13" just because it's about "pirates" x'DD what a joke of an opinion dude LMAO.
Though luffy is broken, hes been put to sea for 3 years and is now fighting yonkos thats strong as hell, hes just 19 also
luffy will be the strongest at the end tho
Even then, with help, his will is as strong as ever.
love that One Piece just overtook Batman for the second best selling comic of all time (sales wise)
That title is what every person that watched/read one piece thought
"Luffy declared war on the world government because... They made his crewmate cry"... Bruh what? 🤦🏽♂️
It was also stated that east blue was the weakest sea out of the four seas. That might be one reason why Luffy was so strong during the first couple arcs.
"sorry i am dead" scene is litterally of of luffy`s best peaks in the series. it`s a very good representation of his freedom which is arguably his best theme. him accepting his death shows how he is free from death itself. it`s not dumb at all
Man that scene of luffy after fighting ussop never fails no get me.
Why is the 20 secs ad movie quality compared to 20 seasons of 24 mins per episode anime? I think that answers itself. Also, One piece does inhabit 3 decades of wildly varying animation styles.
the execution scene is one of the best character moments in the entire series for luffy
I took it as dragon causing the storm, but the lightning itself was fate.
You really get how and why he values his friends and loved ones.
you're right that one piece is cool, but you can't really grasp the good reasons why, you make quite weak points in one piece's favor, when there's so many stronger points to be made -_-
The "sorry I'm dead" scene was the first showcase of the Will of D.

i wouldnt say luffy doesnt change, sure he stays head strong and has the same goals.
@@odeiomelao exactly I don’t know what this guy is smoking but he definitely didn’t watch the same show 😂
Glad to see I'm not the only one still endlessly salty about the cup noodle one piece ad teasing us for something we'll never get. DAMN IT LOOKED SO GOOD WHY
Because that type of animation you'd need literal movie budgets worth of money to produce a single episode of that quality, the amount of time and money to make just a 24 episode anime like that let alone a shonen like One Piece would bankrupt basically any studio.
Woah, prety epic dude
one piece is one of those series that, every time i come back to it to reread an arc, i fall further in love with the series. its the only of the long running shounen that did this to me. dragon ball, i got fed up, the loveable kid who put his life on the line to avenge his friend grew up into an adult who would risk his son's life for the sake of his own entertainment, the visually interesting martial arts is fun, but i couldnt really enjoy the story around it (can appreciate the contrasting character arcs of goku and vegeta, dosent mean i gotta like and enjoy it). naruto, i kept finding new plot holes, new frustrations, and whilst i do still love the characters, the story they are in just makes it hard for me to stil love the series. bleach was great untill the time skip, after that, well, it just became "cool swords do things, and theres a mystery enemy", and whilst there are still parts of the later arcs i do like, my overall opinion of the series was dragged down alot by those arcs.
one piece on the other had, the more i read, the more i appreciate oda's skill. weather its planning ahead whilst planting little details, or he's just really good at using his own little worldbuilding details to mesh together a new plot point that seems like it was intentional for along time, it still takes alot of skill to make it so hard to work out which was which. and the character arcs, whilst subtle, are still there. and they don't change who the character is. so whenever i come back, i see little details i missed before, i see characters i fell in love with still being the characters i fell in love with, and i see a maintained, or even better quality of story than before, i still feel the same sense of wonder at this massive unexplored world, and the fact that this has stayed a constant for me, even as i consumed more media and my tastes developed. i just love one piece, and i love luffy in particular.
This is by far my favorite series and I love talking about it so thank you for making this video!
lol deserves way more subs for the effort of these videos
8:23 Why does he (@TrackingShots) think that scene is dumb?
i don't agree that luffy hasn't changed since chapter one
I cried because of a boat bro. How did that happen? Oda.
1:30 That means that you have quadruple weeks of age. I being accompany for less weeks, just 3 digits, almost 4 though.
I feel sorry for those guys who havent read/watch onepiece, i mean theyre missing out bigtime
What's dumb about the logue town execution scene?
If you look at 5:40 you can actually see the X marking the One Piece and ponder about the size of it and remember how Pluton supposedly can destroy a whole island and what the One Piece might become.
I love the goofy luffy.
Him being silly fighting Arlong was one of my favourite battles
I hope that all the original seryuu can keep up voicing the characters until the end of the series's
Picking up the manga was probably one of the best choices I’ve made during our long quarantine
Because commercials are shorter than shows.
The great thing about the anime (Pre-Deresroza except Wano that is!)
Are the gorgeous OSTs
One Piece really got some of the best musical pieces out there among any kind of fictional media seriously
Glad you enjoyed now you know that one piece is a journey and an amazing story
It took me like 4weeks to get from ep 563 from 991. Now I'm bored. Idk what to watch (I'm planning on watching that slime one)
One of us, one of us, one of us....
Welcome to the cult. We have fun here.
You deserved more subs. Goated review
cuz it is a 2 min ad from 2021 we did not have that kinda quality from the years 1998 - 2011 and a 2 min ad way easier to make in good quality then a 20 min ep every week
The loguetown lightning strike isnt dumb. He wasnt saved by luck there
I think you need to reread the story. Reading 1000 chapters in a month will definitely leave some gaps of knowledge and things you have missed. Such as you saying luffy has little character development or luffy declaring War on the world government. Glad you gave the story a chance
