      gregg jarvis Most (if not almost all) jazz/fusion violin players sound like classical players trying to be jazz players. They just don't sound that hip. There is something off about their playing - like a round peg in an oval hole. But this guy doesn't sound like that. He sounds like a jazz player; not only a jazz player, but a burnin' jazz player. Very cool.

    What fun! This is day three after discovering the stupefyingly good "Snarky Puppy" and still gorging myself of these delicious UA-cams with my fav buds jammed in my ears and just cant get enough!!!

    Just discovered Snarky Puppy via an interview I watched featuring Jeff Coffin. I can't stop watching their videos. I get the sense these guys studied a lot of Return to Forever, but what is cool is they put their own spin/sound out there. Snarky Puppy gives me hope that great music is still alive.

    I'm not sure if this was intentional, but there are several "musical mentions" to the KPM All Stars, especially production music greats like Alan Hawkshaw and Keith Mansfield. Ex. 1:03, and again at 4:43 not to mention 00:47. The counterpoint between the keys and guitar and rich horns with NASA precision tightness!! I could listen to this music every day all day and find something new that I adore. That is the brilliance of Snarky Puppy, they're music takes a listener on a journey through different emotional arrangements and aural lands. Goddamn, I can't LOVE or RESPECT a band more than SP. I'm from Long Island too, so I certainly know Mr. Montauk well.

    My headcanon is that "Mr. Montauk" is some sort of otherworldly sorcerer disguised as a regular human, and that the violin solo is him showing his true colors as a super-dimensional spell-caster. He probably fights monsters and has a super ambiguous past.
    Is someone writing this down? Because this should be a series of full-length novels.

    Does anyone know the counting at :53 for the last portion of the horn lick. I know it leaves 4/4 temporarily.

    • @MilosJanic52
      @MilosJanic52 9 років тому

      Eric Simmons Nope, it's 4/4. That last bar that starts at 1:01 is 5/4.

    • @jamesmorell1758
      @jamesmorell1758 9 років тому +1

      MilosJanic52 I was talking about the triplet bar near 53. It's in 10/8 for that one time and then goes back to four.! That's what I've concluded at least.

    • @SylarTheBest
      @SylarTheBest 9 років тому +1

      +Eric Simmons well, actually not. It really is in 4/4.
      I'll try to explain:
      if you count the groove that starts at 0:47 as 4/4 (kick on 1, snare on 3) then what you have until 0:53 is 3 normal bars of that regular groove.
      However, on the 4th bar the kicks become really off-beat.
      You have the 'e' '&' 'a' of 1, then you have the 'e' of 4, and on the 5th bar you have the actual '1' of beat 1 (half a step higher) and the last kick resolves on the '&' of 1 (half a step lower).
      Hope it helped :)
