I used to live in the barracks and my next door neighbor would come home and play this song on the drums everyday after work. I miss those days, I miss my friend. I guess there we'll 'stay gold.'
while lyrics do exist for this album i think it's completely irrelevant what they are. Bannon's vocals are an instrument, they convey the emotion in the lyrics perfectly and i wouldn't love this album any less if he was actually just going "RAH RAH RAAAAH"
@@satans_scrilla4844 these vocals are definitely not just hardcore vocals lmao. Yeah it's obviously where he's being influenced heavily from as a vocalist but no other hardcore band vocals sounds much like this

I've never seen this version of the video - with Concubine set to the Fault & Fracture video. Although the other video that's titled "Concubine/Fault & Fracture" is only Fault & Fracture. Great video anyways. It reminds me of that scene in Legend. Anyone know what i'm talking about? I've been looking for this video for years. Sometimes UA-cam is awesome . . . most times not though.
@nudgenudge To be exact, the narrative video is for Concubine, while Fault and Fracture is band footage. Some versions of the Concubine video, like this one, lead into F&F, while the Fault and Fracture video on YT uses footage from the Concubine video but not the song.
I can actually understand Converge most of the time, not other hardcore bands, but once you get used to a certain singer or band by listening to them enough, you can learn to understand the screaming. Also, it's not just the lyrics, there's also the instrumental and emotion that comes with the rest of the song.
@Human8Stain I consider the written-lyrics of some vocalists to just be sort of like a free verse version of whatever the sound of the song says. If a band is good, then understandable vocals aren't necessary. If a listener doesn't catch it and just dismisses it as 100% anger or whatever, then the music is just too challenging for them.
@drslobulus haha i was just joking... i thought it was clear when i said the word "Jeez" haha.. i love converge.. if you like them.. check out revenge and ambush.. also great bands of the genre
Kurt Cobain That's funny, it usually takes them 30 mins to create the perfect side-parting to match their skinny jeans. Not to mention choosing the perfect scarf to accentuate the colour of their eyes is like an art to them.
Totally different views on hardcore kids, my friend, I view them as Black Flag fans, just a white tee shirt and a pair of old jeans and hammered down ball shoes.
I understand true original hardcore kids are of a different ilk similar to how original punk kids are different from the modern ska queefs. Alas considering this video is from a song in 2001 we can safely say the side parting variety of feminine eunuchs are more relevant here.
P.S. i was gonna name someone important to me jacob. i want all the young adults to know that no matter how old you are there is no excuse for your own pile of laziness. i love you guys. down with the corruption. ;;
@limoguy333 i disagreed with the example he gave (nickelback), not his statement lol =] but for me its 50/50 both lyrics and the music make it for me. for this stuff a little bit less but yeah
@TH3Omaster Lyrics aren't what solely make a song good. Many people, like myself, prefer emotion expressed through instrumental and vocal techniques. If you're listening to extreme music for lyrics, you're looking for the wrong music. I recommend you try radio friendly rock like Nickelback, they might suit you more.
@smokeit13 its funny all the people that listen to this music have no idea what they are saying and when they claim they do i just have them listen to a random song of people they dont know screaming the same and they sit there doing nothing
I'm just saying that those lyrics don't sound like they're in this song. I think it's possible that they replaced the actual lyrics of this song with a love poem Bannon ( Converge's lead singer) wrote about the girl that this album's about
it’s amazing how ppl have so many different tastes in different genres but for me, if this is what metal is then i don’t like the genre but i respect ✊ ppl that do.
Holy shit the sound quality on this video is horrible. Can't even hear the fucking guitars and they're the loudest thing imaginable on the actual album...
I have, since it came out in 2001. It's fucking brilliant. I don't think its necessarily the best album they've done but it still fucking rules. And I'm not sure how you could dig on the rest of their discog or even similar artists while thinking this song is just white noise.
Brian Yee well the problem I have with this song is that the singer is not even trying to pretend he is singing words, converge songs where you can actually understand the song and it isnt played overly loud to confuse people are the best. Most mathcore artists do not have this problem such as dillinger which is why i like almost all of their songs.
Many people take this issue with converge but as others have pointed out its nothing new either from their own music or in the genre at large. Yes they do have songs that are slightly more intelligible (mostly the slower stuff like Hell to Pay / You Fail Me) but even then there are plenty of passages where I'd have no idea what Jake is saying without looking it up. and I really dont care about that. the words matter sure, but if you care enough to look them up then you are gonna do it regardless. the music is abrasive, and I've listened to a lot of dillinger songs that are just as abrasive and hard to understand without looking up lyrics. both bands are similar in that they play over a lot of different styles, experiment frequently, and belong to a style of music where pitch perfect clarity is not always going to be the top priority.
I love metalcore and hardcore, but tbh I don't like this song. It just sounds like shit to me. I'm not saying it is objectively bad, if you like it that's awesome, I just personally am not digging this
Although I do like the band as a whole, I honestly believe their ‘vocalist’ sucks big time. His lack of range or control actually detracts from the overall sound. The tight mathcore arrangements are sick and tightly controlled just waiting to melt your face off, then these lame ass screamo vocals just ruin it. How can anyone understand anything he screams? I’m sorry guys, get new vocalist!!
