Had the pleasure of meeting Sonny Bono in Fresno back in the eariy 1990's. He was running for congress and stopped by at the TV station for a publc affairs show. A great gentleman. He shared with me his days working for Phil Spector...his early days with Cher. A day I'll never forget.

I greatly enjoyed the music of Sonny & Cher from Day One. But it wasn't until their variety show that I began to suspect the breadth of Cher's talent. And back in '65 I never _dreamed_ that she would have such staying power! An amazing and beautiful woman.

Cher talked about how Ed Sullivan and the producers found them be too edgy for their tastes at the time. This is why you see him wheel them off quickly at the end (her words in a later interview). But the network couldn't deny their popularity, which is why they still got invited.
She had one of greatest voices I've heard to to this day. I don't understand how people don't see how overblown she rapidly became. I can't listen to her later stuff.
I clearly recall seeing Sonny & Cher (should be Cher & Sonny, right) on Ed Sullivan when they broke into the public eye. Was at Grandpa Abe’s apartment, likely for Friday night dinner. I was like 14. Sorta thought they sucked, but was fascinated by how they could capture attention. So hokey….

I read where he became a huge womanizer after they hit stardom. She couldn’t take it anymore and asked for a divorce in 1974. Sad. How anyone could not be happy with a beautiful wife like her I have no idea. You can easily see in this video that she was infatuated with him.
Where did you read that? More like record mogul David Geffen broke up Sonny and Cher. At the height of their popularity in the early 1970s, he convinced Cher that she was too good for Sonny and should go solo. Even though Geffen is gay, he seduced Cher to lure her away from Sonny.

Whoa you actually live in the 60s?
Любовь просто выплёскивается из их глаз, улыбок, заряжая смотрящих на них.
Ed Sullivan was a bit of a stiff, but his eye for talent was unmatched. So, so many great acts graced his stage.
He was sure good at noticing who was at the top of the charts...

Refreshing to see the entire medley posted. Kudos to the ES channel!
Yes, hopefully they keep doing this! It's so much better than just getting parts of performances in bits and pieces.

The music in the early 60s and the rest of the decade was anything but stale.

Cher owns the stage to the point where it's her show, not Ed Sullivan's. I don't know if any other performer on his show ever achieved that.
Sonny & Cher-Cher rhymes with blur :-) in Ed's unique pronunciation :-)
