I actually managed to kinda replicate the glitch myself but I only got it to work when the ship is docked at the Great Inagua. So basically it will still rise up from the sea but will be at rest. What I did was enter the Great Inagua from the back side and just before the prompt to enter appears, I go from travel speed to full sail or half sail (both work)
