In 2007, Gibson did the guitar of the week series. Today we are looking at GOTW #15 - The Les Paul GT Firetruck Red. This was an evolution of the 2006 run of Les Paul GTs that featured Metallic finishes with Ghost Flames on top. The GOTW version ditched the metallic paint and flames in exchange for a "firetruck" red color and left everything else about the same - like the cool mirror inlays. I always was confused about what made this one different from the Red one with flames, but now I know the finishes are quite different!

Sweet axe and I’m a fool for red. One reason I love the Classic model so much is the tone options available.
I have a new translucent cherry Classic. I love it, too.
Tone pros stuff I’m a little wary of… had a Schecter C-1 E/A with their tailpiece stock, one day one of the set screws almost fell out on it’s own without me touching it! Must have been the vibrations of playing slowly shook it loose. That might be what happened to the bridge on this, but the owner didn’t notice, or couldn’t find the set screw! 🤷♂️
Even with the cord lock, I still wrap my cord thru my strap
I miss my DAYTONA BLUE Les Paul GT. I’ll also say many people dislike the Ghost flames, so not having them on this model is actually a bonus for most. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻 I love these guitars.

Looks like someone went "Hulk Smash" on that bridge. Didn't know it was locking, or didn't know wtf one was. Probably tried to wedge something under it with a fulcrum, hense the areas and type of finish damage. Wouldn't be surprised if the missing screw can't be replaced due to damage.
When I was a kid, we called it 'fire engine red.'
That would be a really cool guitar if it was in black instead of red. Gibson should do a run of them. I bet they would sell rather well.

I like buttons like this in the PUSH-PULL variant. On an instrument with beautiful bell-shaped buttons, it is smarter to use potentiometers with PUSH-PUSH.
I normally don’t like how most Les Pauls sound, but that sounds really good. Looks pretty sweet too

The neutrik button should also eject the jack. So easy to have the jack push down a spring and when you push the button the spring ejects it out

I have one of these, Got rid of the Mirror and chrome shit. Put cream plastic on it Looks much better. Mine has 1 hour of playing on it.

I associate fire truck red (or is it fire *engine* red) with car finishes. That's not so unusual when you think about the late fifties when guitar Builders wanted to model their new electric guitar models after cars. That was most easily recognized in the finish selection.
In my personal opinion, Gibson and Epiphone still have yet to sort out the matter of generating authentic coil split tones. With both coil but it's activated and in the mid position, it still sounds a little bit empty. I've always thought that Gibson models with that feature wanted a guy picking them up to think they were turning their Les Paul into a Les Paul Special or something like it. The same goes for the Epiphone ES-335 Pro that I bought in January 2017; I thought the splitters would make it sound like a Casino. Think again. In splitting the pickups, they also are suffocating the raw tone of the selected coil. Gibson's research and development to be putting people on to fixing that by now. I don't think it happens with models from other manufacturers.

All Gibson nuts are locking, mainly for G string, you know what I mean 😂😂😂

cant you determine weight relief by knocking on it / checking if it sounds hollow?
I'm in the camp that seeing is believing. Knocking only gets you so far and can give misleading results. An X-ray is the only way to 100% prove it
The pickups sound great in that GT and it is a great snapshot of Gibson trying new things but for me I personally struggle with a solid bright red Les Paul. A Les Paul with a full body painted in a solid color reminds me too much of a Les Paul Custom and my taste there is limited to either black or white.

I've had good results with Miguiar's Scratch X automotive scratch remover. It isn't very aggressive to produce unwanted effects if you're doing it by hand

Ok, I love the sound of this one, but it’s too blingy for my taste. I think I prefer the deeper red of the Year of the Dog, but again…. those tones are really sweet so I guess I could live with the brightness and mirrored bits :D

I’ve had one of these as my main guitar since I was 16! One of the most comfortable best looking guitars I’ve played I love the chrome and fire truck colours. It also has a ton of cool specs but I’ve never liked the stock pickups. Also the finish is called fire engine red.
Seems like the type of guitar they would have included with the purchase of a 90s Ford Mustang GT. Chromed out. Not a bad looking guitar though.

you can tell they were actually going for Fire engine red, because of all the chrome and mirrors. it resembles a firetruck exactly. how cool! when you think about it everything on a firetruck is red or chrome. I think your Ferrari suggestion is wrong. think about it. look a picks of fire trucks.

Lame guitar this is not. Your taste and mine have little in common. I like this guitar it's beautiful. The mirror pick guard and chrome rings look great. Kinda like my Tommy Thayer white guitar from epiphone I have.
