    Thanks for a great tutorial, I've just received my OM-1 and was a bit nervous of updating firmware, but it worked a treat and now my camera is fully up to date, Thanks again🙂

    Having bricked the camera at the time of the last update after following the instructions EXACTLY I was somewhat nervous to try this method. It worked so eternally grateful for the video. I still wish however that there was a simpler method.

    Using the app is way easier than using OM Workspace. It's also a great app for backing up custom settings. Worked fine for updating the firmware on my OM-5 and my OM-1.
    I did, initially, have trouble on my Mac when I updated my OM Workspace to version 2.3.2. I had to remove and reinstall it and closely follow the directions while installing. After that, it worked fine.
    One think I would recommend BEFORE updating firmware via the app, is to save your custom settings to the app in the phone first.

    Thanks for posting this @daxsmithphoto1 - much appreciated. Its given me the confidence to try updating my OM1 Mk1 to v1.6 myself after having seen some worrying stories elsewhere. Could you please confirm my understanding from previous commenters that any settings that I have changed (inc. C1-C4, and button re-assignments) will be automatically saved to the app and then re-loaded to the camera during the firmware update. Is it only the date/time that need to be manually changed at the end of the update process? Thanks in anticipation.

I had tried from my LT and it the update failed , but I was blessed in that it did not brick my camera. I never got the OK. SO I left it at 1.4 Then IO saw on a OM forum on DPReview where someone said use your phone.. Thanks

    My camera has1.0 firmware. is it possible do to the update with OM ImageShare? My Mac has the M1 chip and I am not willing to take the risk of disabling the camera that some users have experienced with the Mac M1 chip. Has anyone made the first update, on Mac with M1 chip, using OM Image share? Very clear instructions in the video-- David does a FANTASTIC job explaining things here, and in other videos.

    Thanks, David. I can't get the new version of Workspace to launch on my PC -- it crashes as soon as it opens for some reason -- so I tried this method. Unfortunately, I don't have cell service at my home, so when the camera and phone connect via wifi it cuts off my internet connection. Is there a way to have the app connect the phone to the camera using ONLY Bluetooth? I need the phone's wifi to connect to the internet, not to the camera.
    Has there been any thought to making this process less dependent on a continuous connection? I'd love to be able to just download a firmware update, load it to an SD card and perform the update offline, like I do with my Nikons.

  • @jeremyhendersonphotography

    Well, I followed the procedure and the firmware downloaded fine but then I got a screen that said “unable to communicate with camera”. I clicked Retry about a hundred times. Nothing. I clicked cancel. Screen asked if I wanted to continue with updating firmware. I said yes. But then the phone screen said “camera found“ with a spinning wheel. I noticed that behind the wheel there was a dialog saying the firmware was transferring. Then that the firmware was updating and the camera showed the “updating” icon followed by OK. I restarted the camera and all seemed fine except I could not click the box on the phone screen. All I could do was quit OI Share and transfer my (previously saved) settings separately. Some settings were uploaded correctly but most were not.
    This was a big stress!! I’ve previously said that I don’t think this is an acceptable procedure and this confirms my belief!!!

    Hello Dax
    I updated to this latest share app and used your instructions to check firmware on my Olympus Miii. it worked great. But then I tried it on a new older Mii and i couldn’t get it registered. Now i can’t connect to anything. The wifi is functioning and I can connect that on my phone but it appears the app itself cant connect. I know I have mucked something up but cant figure out what. I have used the share app for years for remote shooting I hate that I have broken it .

    David...thank you for this. I have been trying to find all this info, simply explained so my 83yr old brain might understand it and get on with updating my OM1.
    The app can be used as a remote shutter release and that is the subject of my request from you. I have been playing with this on my iPhone and OM10 mark IV and I accidentally set up my camera for bluetooth connection using the OI.share app and I love it. I have two other cameras which need this bluetooth connection and I am unable to repeat what I accomplished before. I can connect via wifi and use the app but how can I choose bluetooth ONLY??
    Any help here would be appreciated. Thank you. Joe McGrath

    • @daxsmithphoto1
      @daxsmithphoto1  8 місяців тому

      Hi Joe - Glad it was useful. So its not possible to choose which connection the camera uses. It will pick either WIFI of BT depending on the function its asked to perform. Remote shutter is BT but LIVE VIEW control is Wifi etc. The E-M10 is a simpler, more automated camera and takes a lot of the work away from the user, including some setup options in this case.

    Hi. Thanks for the video. My new iPhone 15 Pro lets me connect to the camera via Oi Share, but every time I select check for updates I just get an error message saying failed to connect to server.

    Much appreciate the detailed instructions, but the fact remains that updating via app like this is inherently risky and it's absolutely unacceptable for OM to not provide a more robust procedure using eg SD cards. I understand that this is your own video, but if you have the ear of OM, please impress upon them the frustration of OM owners that they cannot confidently update their equipment !!!

    • @daxsmithphoto1
      @daxsmithphoto1  4 місяці тому

      This method is the safest way to do any FW updates, and its the future not only on cameras but almost all equipment that requires it.
      So, I disagree with your statement, which you are well entitled to of course :)

    • @jeremyhendersonphotography
      @jeremyhendersonphotography 4 місяці тому +3

      @@daxsmithphoto1 hi Dax - thanks for your helpful reply. My concern is that it is not easy to guarantee a rock solid connection between camera and phone. In your video you had trouble establishing a connection. What happens if the connection drops during update? Surely a failsafe process could be devised? This is the same across all the camera apps I’ve used - very poor reliability. Until camera software developers learn to write robust software for phone connectivity I think they should provide a tested alternative like SD card.
